Taping natural ears

I did it twice. It may last until his teething is done at 6 months.
We taped for 5 days. Then she had 10 days break and then we taped again for 5 days.

This may sound a silly question, but did you leave them taped overnight?

I'm concerned he may manage to get them off in the night somehow and swallow the plastic cable-tie.

Yes you have to keep it overnight. The plastic is very strong. There is no way to get it off.
It should be not too tight to make him uncomfortable but it also should not be loose to let him play with.
Look at Asha's pictures on p.3

this is it, if you have questions let me know, thanks to the owners of Russkaja Mechta kennel who did the taping so I could make the pictures!
Thank you for the pictures it help's me a lot. I got a Doberman from Germany with natural ears and tail and live here in the states. Can you tell me what tape and glue I buy that is save to use on my puppy. Thanks

Hi, I'm new to the site and didn't know you can tape natural ears.
Pheewwy, how glad I am to come upon this before I got my dobie :) will gladly do this - cropping is ilegal in South Africa. From what age can I start tapping his ears?

I'm not really sure, but I'd say that they can be started when the ears want to start springing up. I'm sure the others who have experience with it will be along shortly to give you better answers. :)

Curious, do you mean to have "white" mixed in your sig line? I'm sure you know it's not an accepted color for a Doberman. :)

Thanks for the "flying nun ear" advice :)

I just know you get the Dobie in white also, so I just added white in my sentence. Didn't wanted anyone asking me if I have something agains white Dobies if i didn't add them in. So I added white and brown. Futher on, i know almost nothing about white Dobermans :)

There is plenty of info on Albino dobermans here. Please be sure to read it as it is very informative! You can also then share what you learned :D DPCA | The Doberman | Albino | What is albino

FWIW, the accepted Doberman colors are black, red, blue and fawn. :) When I was at the show a ton of non-dog people at the hotel asked my why Della wasn't the regular black color and they almost fell over when I told them about the other accepted colors. LOL

The ears are stubborn between 4 and 6 months before the teething is done.
We taped Asha's ears at age of 4-5 months twice for 5 days. It helped a lot.
Not every dog has flying ears :) Good luck with your new puppy!
