Keep Tara in your thoughts - attacked by the neighbours dog *GRAPHIC PHOTOS*

Oh, my!! I skipped the first page because I don't do graphic photos but I'm glad to hear she's on the mend. How scary for everyone and totally avoidable if those people had any sense...

This is firstly saddening and secondly, infuriating. That was A LOT of blood they tried to wash away. I am so glad you got good care for her at the vet's and you are clearly caring for here quite well at home. I am so glad the attacker didn't get any deeper!

The neighbors at least sound like they care about being responsible after the fact. Many, but not all, folks I have run into who have dogs that would behave that way, would also have denied any of it was their dog's fault, they would excuse the bad behavior or shift blame back on to you or your dogs. I am not opposed to their dog being put down. Once a dog like that is successful at an attack like that, I feel like the odds they will do it again increase. It's just sad the dog wasn't raised better and it came to this.

You (everyone involved, especially Tara) have my thoughts and prayers. I feel like her appetite being back so soon is a good indicator. I hope so, anyway.

Glad to see she is on the mend, and so very very sorry this happened to your dogs and you. It is unfair the way they kept the poor dog, all alone and no interaction....UGH. My biggest nightmare when walking my dogs....is other unruly dogs coming out of nowhere!
I carry pepper spray, unfortunately, you really have to have the dog close enough to nail them with it....I like the idea of a break stick...or even a tazer.
Thank you for the photos and update! She looks adorable in her blankie
Unfortunately, I think the use of a taser would bring an immediate backlash from PETA.

I like the idea of Pepper Spray. But I wish they'd put it in a can with an extended spray nozzle. If you've ever used a can of RAID "Wasp & Hornet" killer, that stuff can stream over 10 ft. and hit its target. It gives you enough time to get outta there if the Wasps and hornets come after you. Still, that might also invoke a PETA response. It's like they don't ever take responsibility for their dogs' actions but won't hesitate to ding you for yours/your dogs' actions!:mad:

Update: Tara’s post op check went really well. No signs of infection or swelling. I’m so pleased. There was mention on Saturday, after surgery, about having temporary drains put in. They decided not to do this, she did say why but for the life of me I can’t remember the reason they gave for not fitting them. Honestly, the last few days have been a blur.
As each day passes she’s starting to ‘come back to life’ she’s starting to be Tara again, cheeky! Lol
My heart is so happy ❤️

We had a short scare this morning. I was downstairs making breakfast and I left her ‘sleeping’ upstairs. She obviously had other plans. Little miss decided to have a lick of her wound. She’s been pretty good about leaving it alone but is now in a full surgical vest. I can’t risk her nibbling those sutures.

She must of had one eye opened watching me disappear down those stairs. Argh!

Oh geeze poor little girl...
I'm glad you were on your toes and caught it right away.

Must be healing and getting itchy. That's a lot of blood! Good thing the stitches held!

It seriously scared the bejesus out of me. My BF is the receptionist at my vets so I sent her the pics straight over and they called me.
we are going to leave the vest on 24/7 but I was told that they can give her something to ‘chill her out.’ I have no idea what that is but it would obviously be last resort if I felt she was struggling.
Like you said, it’s healing and obviously it’s itching and annoying her. Ugh!

On second thought. I may leave the vest off her by night (she sleeps in her basket beside our bed) I’m now thinking it might be best to get some air to it? I just don’t know what to do for the best. I’ve not been very well since the attack, lack of sleep doesn’t help.

I would encourage the use of a medicine to chill her out…in order to leave the vest off for certain amounts of time.

To think the vest would be over the wound for long periods of time…moist, warm environments create bacteria. Not that you would not take the vest off inspect and clean the wound but just saying the possibility is there.

I like the idea of half and half here, use of some meds to chill out and then some use of the vest.
