An adoption journey....

She’s already been berated for this tail docking :( She really needs to grow thicker skin, she’s pretty sensitive at the best of times BUT she’s young and not use to these situations either. She’ll have to learn to dust herself off and not take it so personally.

Some people *eye roll*

I have a suggestion for her.....think up a snappy, snarky come back line....and say it with a big smile and in a happy tone...it will confuse the busy body.....and give your daughter a chance to extract herself and Titan from the nimrod.

I tend to work with something like
"Gosh....he was going to be put down...and I didn't think about his tail at the time...I just wanted to help him have a good life....but you know you are right...I should have let the people who did that to his tail.....just put him down, cuz ya know, no tail..he has no value, right?"

Do it with a big sunny smile and in a cheery tone and it confuses the one(s) who is so so rude.

There's a lot of satisfaction that comes with seeing what you just verbally slapped them with...registering..and it isn't that you were rude back...it dawns on them A DOG WAS SAVED....his docked tail (or cropped ears) is the LEAST of the issue.

Once in a while I even get an apology from the person.

The thicker skin will come with time...but lord...it feels like someone just told you your child is abused and you are the worst parent in the world. The snappy snark come back in a happy tone..is our default...and over time.....it became second nature...and it also feels good to put a busy body in their place without being as rude as they are.

It's disgusting that people would go out of the way to suck the joy out of what your daughter is doing for Titan.

Sort of like responding with; “Let me rewind in my brain what you just said.” “Ah... just what I thought, I didn’t ask for your opinion, you do know what opinions are like don’t you sweetie? Good, I truly did not want to have to tell you what an asshole you are, i’m thrilled that you already know it, so are we done here?
Bless your heart, have a nice day now ya hear.”

It went pretty much how I expected: Moms can’t tell adult daughters what to do! If her bf nor her dad have been part of this yet, you could maybe use them to convince her. A bit manipulative I know, but...women...lol :rolleyes:Otherwise, I agree to not make a fuss over it. You tried and it will just cause a fight if you press the issue.

The stigma is a hard one to swallow no matter how thick a skin you have. I just tell people he came this way from the breeder. There’s still no getting around the comments though.

If someone is polite when they make a comment about either of the boys...this is what I do..explain they came to us this way. My husband has the best line
"Nope...he came from the Hell Hound Factory that way".

There’s still no getting around the comments though.

That's the maddening part.

@Viemarangelrock let her know she isn't the only one rolling the rock up and over the ignorant...and each time she has to deal with this....she got a ton of folks rallying for/with her...that she'll never know/or meet...but they are an invisible cheering squad who knows it is survivable.....and it won't stop..but it will get to where it doesn't sting so much.

After they're done being posted many people just think the ears stand on their own too so it's only a few months to go through the comments. I know a lot of people who have to post GSD's to get the ears to stand and they've obviously never been cropped.

Well, my hubby and her boyfriend tried to convince her to post the ears, too.
She said she would try it so I posted his ears yesterday and within just 4 hrs she wanted them out :(

I’m absolutely gutted! I really thought she’d give it a chance. She had a few remarks on her walk with him yesterday and that was the end of it for her.

she didn’t like him shaking his head and scratching but I told her he would get used to it.

Why can’t they be posted and just cover the head with a “cat in the hat” hat or a frog like Rubi. Or just remove to walk them put back in after. decorate the heck out of the posts and wear a sign on her shirt that says “Back off Don’t Talk to Me, I bite.”

What about wrapping them with black vet wrap? Be VERY careful with this, you don't want them to get wet. Only hand press them to the posts. But no one would even notice with them being black.

I feel like his crop is more noticeable being all folded wonky on his head as they are now than once he's done with posting. Seems a lot of people are oblivious what cropped ears look like when they are done and out of posts, lol.

You did a dang great job posting them though, wow! Go mom bf and dad!

I'm imagining him full size, all grown up. If the ears stay folded over but the pink skin gets covered with fur, they will blend in to his head better but the wonky look will remain. Is she open to having them taped down in to the natural ear position? I feel like some sort of assistance needs to be given to the ears so they don't become the focal point.

Regarding the negative comments she got, I don't think she can avoid those even leaving them loose. He's so young that people will just assume this was her doing. That's the tough part about people and about having this breed.

Also the ears getting sunburned.

Ha with mole foam or zip ties she could respond with; “He has hearing aids and this (mole foam/zip ties) keeps him from scratching them out.

By the time the idiots figure out its bs, they will be long gone trying to belittle someone else for some other thing they deem atrocious. :D

I was wondering this too. If she is absolutely against having them posted then maybe trying to get them to lay nicely in the natural position would be an option. With them up on top of his head there will be a problem with dirt and grass seeds, even water getting down in his ears and causing all sorts of trouble! I really feel it would be easier to get them to stand! Boy they looked good posted. Good job! :thumbsup2:
