Doberman puppy owners - track your weight gain here

Yeah the chest is (i assume you mean the heartgirth? Not from side to side?) but hes got 2 inches in height (today is 25.5...finally got him to stand still and upright), is longer, and almost 10lbs more. I wonder if the girls mature faster in dogs, just like people?

Weight gain has definitely slowed though. People still tell me he has gigantic paws. Like omg look at those paws. He's going to be a big boy! Have you looked at the rest of the dog? He's 6 months old and bigger than a lab... lol

That's always the FIRST thing people see about Mila too. And around that is the comment, "she is gonna be big!" Then her facial expressions are next, haha.

And yes, girth is the correct reference. That's what I'm talking about. I actually checked today and she's now 28.5 girth. I checked a couple times. I was like . . . wait, what? lol Her height also bumped up to 24.25" at the shoulder. Monday I checked her weight and it's 50.4 lbs. Had to also check that twice so she must be going through another growth period. She hasn't had a tummy issue in a few nights so that's helping. My issue with taking her darn height isn't wiggling, but she LOVES to lay her head on my shoulder when I lean over. The goober thinks, well hey, I'll just rest. Then it lowers her shoulders and I get messed up trying to size her so I gotta start over. Gargh.

Mila's temperament has calmed somewhat though (don't wanna jinx it and say a lot), which I'm extremely happy about. Not as much counter surfing, harassing of the other dogs. Also listens to me a lot better - woohoo! That is a true celebration milestone, hahaha.

That happened with Jax forever...I'd be like, "Hello, can you not see the rest of his body?...He's a fairly big boy all around." But...I kind of understand because I love dog paws, and since Dobes' paws are a little different, they might look even bigger to people....??? (no clue how to describe what I mean, but I swear it makes sense!!! HA!...to me!)

Dobies have unique feet that's for sure. Nails too. Is it weird that I adore her feet? :D

How old is she? Mila was severely underweight when I got her. I just let her eat freely, but even now, she doesn't eat as much as she "should" according to charts. Much less.

Thanks for responding.. getting worried :(
She is 16wks old today.

Would love any and all feedback from this great board! :paw:

Welcome back to the thread GennyB! :)
My girl is 25lbs and 20" at the withers. Her parents are 80-100lbs. I feed her 6 cups a day but she is finicky and maybe will eat about 3.5-4 cups. Any thoughts on her weight as it seems below the average of the fellow members here and any suggestions on getting her to eat more? Thanks!
16wks and 25lbs? She's a little on the small side. What are you feeding?

We feed TOTW now too. Taste of the Wild Pacific Puppy

We originally fed Wellness Core puppy until Nero stopped eating it. It was grain free.

Then we went to Wellness complete health large puppy, but it had too many grains in it and he had the runs for quite some time even after a bout of antibiotics after a fecal sample was run.

So we switched to TOTW from recommendations on the board. Grain free really was the way for us.

What's the vet said? Is she having any tummy issues? Mila had coccidia (simple fecal check can determine issues) so it kept her from taking as much from her food. I know if we didn't get her when we did, she'd have stayed underweight.

I feed Mila Drs Foster Smith puppy food. Chicken. Really been good for her skin and coat too. She also had skin and hair issues when I got her.

She just had her last set of shots and vet said there were no issues to speak of.

So no reasons to worry too much. I think as long as she's gaining, you're all right. I know w Mila I was always so concerned, but these ladies around here are great at support and their knowledge is so helpful. Reading through all these posts helped me too. Here is what Mila went through. We didn't realize how underfed and sick she was until I saw this photo after she started eating and gaining. She was skin and bones. Now she's much healthier. Vet loves her difference too. :)

Nero gets distracted and runs off unless we stand there and tell him to eat. It's not that he's not hungry, just everything else is like "squirrel!" LOL. I totally undetstand. She will widen as she gets older.
