Crop Pics - Lets see your style!

Thanks Jan I'm glad you confirmed that because I was thinking the same thing. After this next trip he is going to start charging me to post them so a few weeks ago I got the bonding glue an backing rods from the instructions on another thread to start trying to get them done myself so I hope I can do it right.!
They're looking really nice but at this age it is important to keep them posted since once they flop it takes 3 times as long to make up for the progress. Many vets incorrectly advise to leave them down for a few days, but that really isn't the best method.
Cute pup!

I think it's so funny when the lil ones haven't grown into their ears yet. I remember with Gretchen thinking "uhhhh, is she ever going to grow into these or is she doomed to look like yoda for the rest of her life". lol.

Cute boy you have there @red_euro_dobe_mango the ears are looking real good! Esp. after only 5 postings! I remember I would take G's postings out and hurry up and take pix while they were still standing and then repost.
[DOUBLEPOST=1428590722,1428590302][/DOUBLEPOST]Sorry I saw he and didn't realize you were talking about the doc! Yes, it's important to try to post all the way through teething because they can start to flop during that time period even if they have been standing.

Don't hesitate to ask questions if you have any. It's super easy once you've done it a couple times and I love the bonding experience with the pups too.

My boys crop. Medium/long with a slight curve.

Long crop. Slight curve

Not familiar with the technical terms used.

I've cut the hair at the edges once but didn't much like the look so now I just leave the fuzzies on the edges. I prefer less bell so I love that my cropping vet removes the just of it. For reference my cropping vet is Dr. Staples in London Ontario.

Boomer (17 weeks old) at the vet today for last round of puppy vaccinations and had his stitches removed. Vet said to wait a day or 2 before posting just so some of the redness from his infection would clear up.

On the 25th I will be meeting the vet up in Hollywood that I may choose to do my pups ears. I wanted to see some pictures of his work before I commit. Since it is a 3&1/2 hr drive, I want to be prepared with pictures and questions for him. If any of you can help me with the questions to ask and photos of your crops, I would certainly appreciate it. It's been a long while since I've dealt with crops.
Thanking you in advance for your help. :-)

I think pretty much all of our crop photos are posted throughout this thread so you can scroll back through the pages to see if there's anything you like.

I would ask for photos of dogs he's done (especially Dobermans) and ask if he will do custom crops from a photo or just one standard type of crop. Many vets just use a standard pattern and some of those crops are too short with too much bell.

i am tempted to draw a templet of what I want. The tech I spoke with said he has been doing crops for 30+yrs. with a high % being dobes and he free hands the cut. That is what got my attention. I did tell her I wanted to see pictures of the crops he has done, she indicated that would not be a problem. I really want to meet him and see if we click (so to speak). I need to feel confident with him. It is all so nerve racking wanting to give the pups the very best that is available. Another vet in Clearwater was recommended as well and he uses laser. Perhaps I should fly up there and see his work as he predominantly does Dobies and he does laser cuts. I am feeling overwhelmed. :-(

I never thought to put up a pic of Oji's crop in this thread. I hadn't thought too much about the "style" of crop besides short vs. long. I am going to be so particular and type-A next time. I see pics of crops with too much bell and I personally strongly dislike it.

This is my third Dobe. First one got essentially a military crop. Second one was done by the breeder who is a vet and did them (a nice crop). Current Dobe was done be a friend of the breeder (who is a vet tech I believe?) I really love this crop. To me it's the ideal crop. Attractive shape, decent length – not too long. (Too much length I just find silly.)GB18mo2wkSitFireplace.webp
