Spay and heat cycles

In 2021 my total to spay Katyusha was real close to the $400 mark. They didn't try to sell me a cone though. They just said come pick one up if she isn't leaving it alone, as I recall. I had one at home anyway from a previous eyelid surgery Thor had. Never did need to use it, as she wasn't picking at it at all.
Wow 400! I’m going to pay over 1 k 😖

Amazon has cones for 15 so I’ll do that and with her I’m thinking she won’t leave it alone. She ended up ripping her panties open this time too 😆

Just got the spay write up for Pepper they do laser as well. It’s 221.00
Nice!

they are charging 30.00 for the cone, I’ll get my own haha
I will put money on it that you don't need one at all. I've never needed one for any of our dogs and it's so much more comfortable for them without it.

That's most likely because it's a foreign object on her body that doesn't belong there.
She’s too funny she knows not to do it when I am around. I had to leave her with my youngest son and when I got back he said she was great! Then I noticed her panties and I said yeah because she was busy eating her drawers lol

Nice!

I sure hope that she doesn’t need it, because I would think they’d have to sleep in it too?

I think some people do it that way but I personally don't believe in them at all. If I use anything it would be the Bite-not.
BiteNot™ I do keep one on hand just in case but do not use it unless absolutely necessary.
That's an interesting one! I like that even better than the pillow that I have. If I ever needed something to keep an animal from biting or licking something, that would be perfect. Those cones are ridiculous! :nono::thumbdown:

Which is exactly WHY I plan to introduce underwear training to Agatha before she really 'needs' to be wearing (and keeping on) underwear when I want her to be wearing them. :)

Will be a lot less cleaning for me to get her somewhat used to the idea now when there is no messy stuff going on than it will if I wait until things have already started.

Me having Dystopia around to show her how other (trained) dogs do the underwear stuff is priceless as far as time saved is concerned. :)

As a follow up this was Olive's incision on June 1 or 15 days post op. It healed pretty fast so we are thankful for that.

Only special girls have that one extra smaller one in the very back for 'just in case' they need it.

In my experience, When you see that - It is a big red flag that you have an awesome dog. :)

It's not any sort of voodoo stuff or anything like that. It's a genectic sort of marker thing that you can bet money on. :)

You got darn lucky to find that girl and bring her home with you... :)

Thats a good tip!

Well, Annie is in heat again. And as I was telling @JanS I'll be counting the days till she gets spayed!

First, I wasn't even sure if she was in heat. Except for a lot of swelling there was no spotting. Just a milky, mucus type of thing that I would see hanging around. LOL I even questioned Jan if she thought she was in heat. 🤷‍♀️ I never had an intact female before so this was all new. I suspect that she was from the swelling but with no actual blood I was wondering how you even count the days or know when it started.

In any event, it finally started. And Friday I was gone all day garage saling and my husband came home at noon to take care of all the animals.

Well, when I came home about 3:30 I was greeted at the door by Annie wearing a torn panty and no liner and blood drips on the floor! Annie! What did you do? I texted my husband who was out in the barn cleaning stalls. I finally saw the liner by the back door all torn up. 😕 I put her out on the back deck with a bone while I went downstairs on my sewing machine and just tried to Jerry rig it together.

It seemed okay but some of the elastic was torn. It fit her but probably not the best . By morning I was woken up with a paw in my face :tap: and Annie with nothing on her! :banghead: And no linear to be found. Really? Annie!! I got out the other panties that I bought that don't fit her tail. But it was the only thing I had while I washed the other one again. I still haven't found the liner. 😳 I was at wits end and so ready to spay! Sorry, but this is not fun. Now I'm afraid to leave her alone. Or even overnight!

Obviously she was chewing at the other panties too. Ughhh!

Since the vet I'm using to spay and Tack her stomach is usually booked, I'm calling Monday morning and setting up a time for next March!

Good plan so you know you have a time spot set up ahead of time with the right timing between cycles.
The Angel/Destroyer
LOL, like I said she takes after her dad for looks and her mom for the destruction part.

Hanes (size S) underwear for the WIN here for the last few decades. :)

Cut a tiny hole right below the elastic waistband for the tail nub and you are all set for a while!

QHGvULd.jpg

I usually get a few years out of each pair before the elastic starts giving up and then turn them into shop rags. Since they are 100% cotton they work really well as both underwear and shop rags... Very cost effective and easy to find at any Walmart. :)

(If you multiple females that are different in size you can get even longer life out of them. The smaller dog gets the 'newer and tighter' underwear and as they stretch out and become looser you can set those aside for use on the bigger girl until such time that they are worn all the way out and turned into shop rags...)

I have settled on these for pads here for the last few years -

oErh1w3.jpg

They are VERY long but thin as heck. I usually cut them as needed to fit where I want them and also to adjust how many are used according to how many are 'needed' at whatever particular time during each cycle. Obviously, you don't 'need' a lot of pad when there is not a lot of stuff to catch and other times when you need more pad because there is more to catch... Easy as pie to adjust with a pair a scissors! :)

Was in line to checkout at a local TSC one time and Princess was right next to me wearing her red Hanes underwear. A young mom and her daughter (maybe 8 or 9 yrs old?) got in line behind me. I hear the daughter ask her mom when the dog was wearing underwear and I turned around to see the mom had this confused / unsure look on her face so I answered for her telling the little one - 'That is a super dog and the underwear are part of her uniform for when she is doing super dog stuff'.

I saw her moms face change instantly to a look of relief and guessing because she just avoided having to explain any of that stuff herself! :)

I don't even start considering spay surgery stuff until they get to be around 8 or thereabouts here. It is entirely too easy to underwear train a Doberman and usually takes no more than a few cycles before the particular girl knows all of the underwear 'rules' so messes inside the home are a non-issue.

So Father's Day we had to leave Annie at home and hope for the best.

I put the camera on her and 15 minutes later I'm seeing this. :furious:

I was so mad! I'm yelling into the phone for her to leave it! Screaming, leave it! leave it! leave it! She didn't seem to have any reaction! Angry and frustrated, I accidentally hit the siren! I was trying to turn it off but with the Wi-Fi delay and my frantic frustration, I think I was toggling it on and off, on and off without realizing it.

When we got to our son's house and I got out of the car the sound of the siren was coming through my phone. All of a sudden it hit me! :speechless: My stupid phone is connected to my car so me screaming into my phone did nothing! No wonder she wasn't reacting! So, finally out of the car I was able to silence the alarm and yell at her. :tap: She finally stopped but holy cow I was so mad I was ready to go home. I couldn't believe the way she was frantically pulling at that! I figured we'd go home to a destroyed panty, and the house looking like something died in it.🙄

But later as I looked at the camera, she was sound asleep. :sleep:We came home about 3 1/2 hours later and all was well. The panties were no worse for wear than the first time she tore them up and she slept almost the whole time we were gone. :thumbsup2:

I had a busy day today so I never did get a chance to call the vet to schedule. Maybe tomorrow. Still counting the days....

Not going to say mine have never wormed out of their underwear but the rule is 'If you take them off - Your butt better be in your crate'.

Well I finally called the place that does the spay and tack and she said to get both is usually around $1,400. And they are usually about 4 weeks out. They were very, very nice on the phone which made me feel comfortable. I told her she'll probably be in her next heat around the holidays. 🙄😕 And will be two years old in March. So I said I'll be calling you after Christmas and set up an appointment for March. She said that's fine.

False pregnancy again for Pepper number 3. She is extremely lethargic this time and not mothering a toy which is a plus. She did appear to be lactating which I never really saw happen previously. She’s been great with her stomach for months, until now…in the morning the past two days runny stools and straining. She also has been restless at night and waking up making noises to get my attention. If she doesn’t cut that out I take her down to her crate in the den and she doesn’t make a sound there.

The spay is scheduled and I will have it done. Clearly, it makes me anxious, but it’s time and she’s having it rough each heat and after.
