It's the best decision with her false pregnancies increasing in symptoms. They won't get better without breeding or spaying. She will do just fine!! When is she scheduled for?

Yeah poor girl. She's old enough now and once she's recovered she can just go on to be a happy go lucky dog without all of those hormones getting in the way.

. I canceled last time because I was so anxious. She is scheduled for 9/16 at 7 am. I am definitely taking her this time.I had a difficult time finding a vet who would spay her just being a carrier for VWD. This vet thankfully said not an issue let’s do it.

Of course we're all here for you.
That still blows me away. Our vet asked if we knew the status for Olive when she was spayed so I told them carrier and they said it's a non-issue then.

I know unbelievable the amount of vets I called and was told no. Even called in PA and NY.
I'm going to say they are all different - mine was having more symptoms for the first few years but the last couple of heats has been completely absent of false pregnancies. I don't disagree with spaying though, at all.

They are all different! Ripley had them the first few years too. Then they calmed down. Then she was bred, then she had the strongest false pregnancy ever and was full on lactating the following cycle. It was recommended we breed her on the next cycle because of the strong hormones to "clean her out". The reality is, female dogs bodies are designed to have pregnancies back to back and not be open.

I keep saying, next cycle I'll spay, then the time gets close and I see no reason to. Like @MichiH I'm the one with cold feet about surgery, but for no good reason.
I just started hearing that for the last 5 years or so but before that it seemed like breeders were chastised for doing it and being money hungry. Anyone who has a dog from a reputable breeder knows there isn't much money made after all is said and done, not even counting the endless hours dedicated to raising a litter.

Pyo would be worse. Spaying would remove that risk. She's had plenty of years to receive all the hormones she needed to mature. I know you worry about the chance of urinary incontinence but again... pyo is just so scary with the chances increasing the longer they go without having a litter.

As long as health testing is kept up to date every year prior to breeding and the breeding is done with purpose... with homes waiting... Really, if a breeder is titling their girl, there isn't a whole lot of room to have more than a handful of litters (~1-3) for that girl in between training and trialing in the ~4-5 year window of typical breeding age as a breeding bitch is generally out for ~5-6 months. But yes, reproductive vets are now recommending that if you are going to breed more than once, back to back is better.
Yes, all that. But you know me, forever researching. The studies of loss of hormones in human women who go through a radical hysterectomy, usually due to cancer - who can actually talk about it and say what they feel is pretty moving. Many get estrogen supplements (like the answer to urinary incontinence) to "get right" again. All of life is a crapshoot it seems.
The more I see and read, it seems there is no perfect answer, especially with our breed. You avoid one health issue just to see another crop up. I'm emotionally drained trying to do the right thing at every turn.

Pepper was fussing in the night and I told her no be quiet. As she’s been doing during this false pregnancy. She went back to sleep. Come to find out she got sick in the middle of the night. I feel so bad! Assuming this is hormones at play poor girl.
Had to take her toys this week, she started to mother them.
Looking forward to the spay as I feel awful for her. Still nervous because it’s surgery and like @Ravenbird said the constant going back in forth in our heads with the decision.
Damned if you do and damned if you don’t kind of feeling over here.

It is a nerve wracking time but after all is said and done, it's a relief.
Poor girl! She's really having a hard time. I know I will feel the same dropping Annie off for her spay. But knowing what Pepper is going through now it almost feels like a 'fix.' At least in her case. I wouldn't want her going through this again. I hate dropping my dog off and leaving her/him anytime at the vet. It's heartbreaking and scary. That's the worst part of it for sure. Olive had to be dropped off early so I had hubby do it and I picked her up when she was ready to come home. Her biggest issue was that she couldn't have her breakfast. LOL
Oh, for sure! Since they don't know anything that's happening all they can think of is, Why didn't you feed me? did you forget? Hey, You!
LOL and Elroy didn't get any food or water until after she left either so they were both unhappy that morning.
