I've not noticed other posts from owners of intact females noting appetite changes with heat cycles.
I am hoping so. She will eat human food no problem. She just ate ground turkey, pumpkin, and some blueberries.It may be hormone related for Pepper, but my dog has only refused food 2 x in her 5+ years. I think Pepper has a very sensitive digestive tract for whatever reason and perhaps the hormones influence it as well? I'm just guessing.
Soaked her kibble and she ate it up. Normal stool this am. Hoping she’s going to keep that up.
She does seem to have some pretty big hormone swings with her cycles so I agree, the spay might level her out.
I could be wrong but it seems like she's just getting a bit picky since you're giving her better stuff if she won't eat her kibble. After the false pregnancy is done I would try to get her on a more strict kibble schedule and don't give her the good stuff if he refuses the kibble. It's kind of like a kid who wants to skip their meal to go straight to dessert. LOL
Good point and I’ll do that. She has been extra goofy in general and I do know she is hungry. I put her in her crate to nap with her kibble so we will see…
The biggest challenge for me has always been to keep them from wanting to run or jump for the 7 - 10 days. I took Olive out on an 8' lead during that time and she did fine. Hubby helped her on the bed for the first few nights and the couch was just a small step up for her.
That’s what I was thinking I’ll keep her in the living room and no upstairs. Which means I’ll probably be on the sofa then haha.
Same here, if I ever get around to spaying. ANY time Asha licks at something for more than 3 minutes, I look hard at the area. I always find a scratch, a little peeled off skin, a cactus spine or something! She likes to lick and groom in general but will absolutely obsess if there is something "wrong" there. A few days ago she was working on the upper pad on a front leg. I looked and looked and finally saw where she did some kind of skidding stop and peeled a tiny piece of pad off which was still attached. Tiny, but there. So I'm sure sutures might drive her nuts. Surgical suit is what I was thinking of. If you get one, you might be able to re-sale it right here one day.
Same with Pepper! Anything on her body that’s not supposed to be there she’s licking it. Asha doesn't ever bother the jackets she has worn. but not sure if that would change with sutures underneath...Then I think will she go after the darn suit?!

And speaking of blankets, a few months back when I went to Kentucky to visit our daughter, my husband told me he found a piece of blanket in Annie's poop. He took the blanket away immediately and stashed it in the closet. When she wasn't looking I threw it away. I said no more. Buddy loved his blankets and always had one to suckle. He would tear them but literally spit out the pieces! I watched him. He never ate them. Annie likes to eat everything.
So I just don't give them to her anymore.

As far as her kibble, do you top it with anything? I've been topping their kibble since Buddy. First is the vegetables from my garden that I've put through a food processor. Just a spoonful. Sometimes cottage cheese. And I also get Frozen raw patties from my doggy Boutique in town. They each get a portion of that with each meal too. Mix it all with a little dab of water and they both scarf it down.
That's Elroy too and he will either spit it out or bring it to me and give it to me. If Olive gets a piece off something, she's going to eat it.
