Spay and heat cycles

You can start teaching her now. ;) I had to teach Asha how to be carried when I wanted to do the RH test.

My problem is not so much 'teaching the dog' - It is because the one girl is so darn heavy and I is not a body builder...

You did just give me a good suggestion though as for training the new girl here to allow herself to be carried. It certainly won't hurt her and I can handle mid 50's poundage a lot easier than than a fido that is closer to 80lbs.

For peoples wondering why this sort of stuff might be important for your fido to be accustomed to -

When I had to have the oral surgery done on the one girl because she cracked a tooth it was a chore for a good many hours after picking her up from her dental surgery. Girl really could have used some help getting in and out of the truck after that surgery but because she had never been picked up before by anybody she had no idea what I was trying to do with her when I 'needed' to do it.

Dog was still drunk from those sedation drugs and I was beyond worried that if she tried to get out of the truck by herself in that state that she would faceplant into the ground.

I can't imagine it being that cheap! Even $500 seems cheap. I never even asked that one vet that we did the counsel with how much it would be because it was 2 years down the road anyway.
It was $750 now for Olive since it's a bit more if they're over 2. The gastropexy was $250, which is a fraction of what some members here were quoted and she had quite a few other things done while she was there so I don't think the total bill was bad at all.

That’s amazing! Spay here is 1,1300 and no one does the gastropexy… unless I go to a specialist.

I guess I should call around to see what the prices are in this town. I'm thinking half that. Reckless was $750 but that included several pre-op blood work and tests.

I made sure to thank my vets here in our small town that they actually do almost the things.

I is lucky in that there are so many different vet clinics near to me.

If I need xrays done for whatever reason I know one real close that will do them for 1/2 what most all of the other places nearby charge. Will even put the images on a CD for me if I want to be able to take the images with me to have someone else look at them.

I have a different one I am going to use if I want any sort of ear cropping or ear anything work done. Good grief that lady is gifted.

I have to drive 30 minutes to get to the Vet that is the best for anything and everything dental related. That guy went hard core in the doggie dental direction and is damn proud of his work there and his tools. He has tools I have seen before at my periodontist and I have no doubt they were not cheap for him...

There is only a single 24hr 7days a week 'emergency' Vet near me. Always open for any emergency but you is gonna pay for that AND you will never be sure who the actual Dr is because they have so many that come and go and work different times... I only had one lady there that I ever was really impressed with and she left after a few years to a better place to practice at.

For their more regular Vet stuff I drive about 15 minutes. (pass by at least 4 or 5 other clinics that I know of)

This was all of Dystopias 'annual' stuff this year -

All of the blood work / testing including her thyroid is in that total.

I could have that same exact stuff done at several other places closer to home but it would have cost between $100 to $300 more depending on the clinic. Also no telling who the particular Vet would even be...

Only 3 different Vets at our primary Vet clinic in the picture above.

If I had to have a surgery of any kind done on one of my girls I would want Dr Share doing it if I could. She has been doing this stuff for a long, long time and has experience that only comes with practice.

Have had more than a few Vets over the years that were long time Doberman owners.

Different Vets are going to have different things they are really gifted at different things they devote their efforts in time and learning towards.

Around here Blue Pearl is the emergency vet, which is 1.5 hours from here and I refuse to go there after all of the horror stories I've heard, not to mention the price gouging. Pretty much every town used to have an emergency vet on call for after hours, but I heard Mars (yes the candy company) is trying to get the monopoly on the pet industry and emergency vet care is included in that.
Anyway, I veered way OT there but it makes me angry.

Yup, same blue pearl and that’s who charges big 💰. I’ll pass.

that’s who I was referred to for her spay…they wanted thousands.

I do the same thing @JanS take photos each day to see how healing progresses. Always makes me feel better! Olive's incision looks great. So much anxiety in leaving them for a procedure....glad she is back with her pack.

Emergency clinic here is double to x 4 depending on the day of the week and the time.

AND their scale still sucks! :)

One would 'think' they could afford a good quality scale with what they charge but nope! :)

Olive's incision is still looking good but boy does she want to play. Of course it's only leash walking for 10 days and I can't wait to get past that so they can get out together and burn some energy. Yesterday and today she has made we walk the entire fence line over and over again and it's cold. Today I told her I don't need this much exercise, but I had to rephrase it to "I don't want this much exercise" because I was cold. LOL

So far, do you feel like you notice better healing, having had the laser therapy?

Hoping the day 10 gets here in something that feels like it went faster than that. A cooped up Doberman is no fun, nor is it natural!

So how was Olive physically and mentally when she came home? Tired? Slept a lot? Was she in pain? I didn't even think about getting in and out of the car. I suppose that is kind of a jump and a stretch getting out of the car. I know they would help putting her in. Gosh it's been a long time since I had a dog spayed. And a large dog to boot. Was it hard keeping her down? Annie loves to run! I can't imagine keeping that dog down!

She came home on a pain med and I gave her one the next morning so she didn't seem in pain and just rested. Mentally she was a little clingier but that could be because she had to be away from home, away from us overnight.

They have to be leash walked only for the first 10 days but we might start letting her out off leash tomorrow without Elroy since she usually doesn't tear around by herself too much.
This was the incision a couple days ago (4 days post op) and it's definitely healing nicely.
