Huh, those are odd! Almost perfectly circular... Ripley's was over all thinning hair and not in any one spot. I'd definitely get a skin scrape done like @JanS mentioned since it looks random around the body and in centralized spots.

That's how Albert's were with just the thinning hair on his rump and not spots like that. Neither of these two have any coat issues at all.

Indeed they are odd! On her first heat, her vet said he was certain it was hormonal. Then I took z to another vet's place on a Sunday evening to try to socialize her to horses, and that vet said it looked like skin contact allergy to her. So I kept working with her, we agreed on a diet change, and then with this heat cycle it happened again so I think at this point the theory of an allergy that only happens at hormone spikes is one working theory. Which, I mean, when my ex wife was pregnant she couldn't touch grapes, but anytime else it was fine, so I guess I've seen that in humans. It's just so hard to pin down. But I'm happy her thyroid test is pending, and I texted to ask for a skin scraping at the same appointment, but then we got whiteout from blowing snow and I know things got crazy at the clinic and most of them left early so hopefully I will get confirmation of that tomorrow. Those two tests should help narrow down where I need to focus. I sure hope so, anyway.

No problem! I am curious though, is your breeder not mentoring you and able to answer these questions since they are the ones breeding her? I mean no offense and don't mind at all helping someone without a mentor. However, her breeder should be able to answer these questions since they have been breeding already and if not, it does make one pause a bit.

I guess I try not to ask a lot from her. She has suggested places to have the testing done but I like to work with my own vets on everything, since they know my dogs well, and they are more than happy to help with my first time questions, too. I just hadn't read through the entire thyroid page on the OFA site, and the fasting that the clinic suggested surprised me just a little.

Curious when walks can resume after spay? I have been doing ten minute slow leash walks 2-3 times a day. We are on day 7 post spay. What did you all do for walks after spay? Vet said fully healed and to resume regular activity at 14 days.

We have also been doing a lot of standing outside on leash. I think she knows as she will just stop and stare at whatever caught her attention and I let her for however long she likes.

I've always been told 7 - 10 days as long as they haven't ripped it open from overdoing it too soon. From the photo you showed in the other thread, I would say you're about out of the woods.

Every Dobergirl is different and Katyusha was spayed just after 6 months, which is different than 2 years ish, but i let her buck fully at 10 days. Foolish in hindsight, but I think what you are describing here about controlled walks is probably fine at this stage, especially given the pic you posted in the Pepper thread of her incision healing. She's looking really good IMHO.
