FastCat

Those are good pics!! Not just running ones! I follow this photog on FB and hope they are at a nearby event some time!

Showed up at 0900, kept Ragnar in the truck and walked Freyja around for 15mins amongst the other dogs and hustle/bustle. Took her back and brought Ragnar out for 15mins. This this with both of them 4 times to try and desensitize somewhat to the environment. There was probably 50dogs there from various breeds. Only saw one Doberman and he was going crazy on a taunt leash: Irish wolfhound, GS, Catahoula Curs, whippets, greyhounds, terriers, poodles, boxers, etc.

My brother shows up and I purchase 2 fun runs to see how they do. First come first serve for the runs. We wait in line for 30mins and as we are waiting, I get them to focus their attention on the white lure being chased. Their ears perked up and they watched it down the entire lane.

Our turn comes up, my brother runs down to be the catcher as I release Freyja first. I wanted to run her first because she seemed to be more into than Ragnar and I wanted him to see her run it first and then he may “get it”. They had a nice lady there who held Ragnar as Freyja and I stepped into the gate. Unlike the other dogs that were jacked up to run, Freyja walks in calmly and sits to my left. They lure comes around into set position and she perks up and leans forward- I told her, yup that’s what you want, time to go get it…..the lady said “Tally Ho” and both the lure and Freyja took off like a bolt. She never looked back.

My brother caught Freyja with no issues and he ran down and gave her to a holder while I walked Ragnar into the gate. Funny as it was the same situation, he sat to my left but when the lure came around he started bucking like a demon. “Tally Ho” and the lure and Ragnar took off. He never looked back either.

I was happily surprised that both acted accordingly and disciplined until they got into the gate. I was warned that if we continue on attending FastCat, they will get crazy with anxious anticipation.

We did one fun run
45mins later did an official run
45mins later did another official run.

I really think if they would have pulled the lure faster both Ragnar and Freyja would have ran faster times but I am extremely pleased things went well and successful. Many folks there were impressed with the pair of Dobermans.

Ragnar-
Fun run: 9.030
1st run: 8.495
2nd run: 8.521

Freyja-
Fun run: 8.665
1st run: 8.434
2nd run: 8.235

Great times! The discipline is pretty impressive too. Even if they start to become crazy for it later on, at least they made it easy on you as a first timer.

Those are awesome times for first timers! Those South American lines are something to be reckoned with! You & @Rits will be rocking this next year! Ragnar was great too, no shade on him. Asha, bless her heart, was pretty much a meltdown on her first run. You guys ran lights out. Congratulations! So glad you went - I'll bet those pups are asleep as I type!

So did I read those correct? Freyja IS faster??

Since you're going back, I assume you also had fun? Was a photog there?
Yes. Freyja is faster! It is so much fun watching them tear down that lane!

We had a blast! Tbh, I was really unsure how both were going to react to all the dog chaos going around them. Both are somewhat reactive to other dogs but once they settle down they seem fine. I just did not want to embarrass the ‘Doberman’. I feel the breed is already negatively judged as soon as someone sees them.

Ragnar did get a little wild and lunged at a boxer that came up behind him so I quickly switched Freyja back to my brother and I maintained Ragnar from then out. Ragnar has more intense training than Freyja so I had Freyja at first. Folks that don’t know, just don’t understand that you have to keep your head on a swivel and foresee the situation.

A photographer was there and I definitely have to see how to get picts.

I'm impressed! That lil' girl can run! It's like horse racing to me, and Freyja - and Ragnar too - is like a maiden winning the first time out. LOL. Those are fast times!
Yes. I am so proud of these two. After going through the trouble of making that Dewalt drill rig-up in my back yard- hoping to make some semblance of the real thing and then all the dog chaos going on….they had Border Collies 5ft away that were whining and barking like crazy the entire time we stood in line. My two were silent and walked/sat right next to us. I mean, how do you read that?? They both acted lackadaisical and “oh well” until they saw that lure whip around to the starting point.

I think the white t-shirt in the yard really helped.

I would not be surprised if tomorrow, or the next event, one of them goes a bit nuts when they hear that lure line zip by... ZZZZZttttt!

Rubie was chill her first couple trials but now she's WILD and I have zero reason to be embarrassed. I release Rubie because she needs the firm reminder to be decent, behavior wise. She squeels and whistles and that's all fine by me as long as she's decent on-leash

Yup…. Y’all were right. I’ve have never seen/heard Freyja yodel and hem/haw like she did when we were outside the gate and the lure whipped around into the starting position. Ragnar also became more animated, he barked and cussed up a storm. Freyja was loud but not as loud as Rag. When Rag got loose people stopped and looked. I really wish I had video of them two cutting up outside the gate but I didn’t have enough hands.

Freyja absolutely smoked the 100yds today, she was blazing fast. I can’t believe she went:
8.074secs= 25.333mph
8.011secs= 25.533mph
She improved on every single run. I really wonder if she can break into the 7seconds??

Ragnar improved on his best time:
8.408secs= 24.327mph
8.734secs= 23.419mph- he was so jacked up bouncing around like a bull that when I let him go, his feet slipped and lost traction on the grass- trimmed nails.

Video:

Yes, sorry about the vertical video….it’s horrible!! But, I was so into the moment, just kinda forgot.
