Soft stool/diarrhea

We have a beautiful 3 year old female dobie. We adopted her from a reputable breeder approximately one year ago. She is fixed and recently developed some incontinence issues. Our vet put her on Proin 75 mg tablets 2x/day. Can anyone advise if the Proin is the cause for the constant diarrhea or could it be her food? We feed her Wellness Core sensitive stomach and give her 3 chewable “Zesty Paws” probiotics/day. Other than that, she is a very healthy looking girl. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. BTW, she was checked for any parasites with negative results and she has very bad gas.lol.

The one thing I do when soft stool starts and I do not see any other cause is I reduce the amount of their regular food. I will cut it by half.
Did you check to see if there was any change in the formulation of her regular food by the manufacture?

No, I haven't checked to see if the food manufacturer made any new changes to the food but will check. Prior to Wellness Core I use to feed her Fromm chicken a la veg. Im always trying to find a good quality kibble. Any suggestions?

Has there been a recent change in food? How long has she been on Wellness Core? Did she ever have diarrhea issues on Fromm? I use to feed Fromm to mine and they loved it, only reason I changed was I wanted to reduce her Copper intake.

Mine had zero issues when started on Proin 75. By the way, this is my story with urinary incontinence and Proin.

Is it constant or intermittent diarrhea? Always loose or cow paddy?

My absolute go to…fix the problem for Freyja …has always been either one of these. Just be consistent. Generally one tablespoon at start and then work up to 3 tablespoons depending on her weight. This would take the place of the Zesty Paws probiotics. Tbh, either of these would be better than any OTC probiotic IMO.

Pumpkin puree not pumpkin pie filling, is your friend. Mix it with plain white rice and chicken. It works great for diarrhea. We give it straight too a table spoon at a time

Thank you for the suggestion. We are trying to eliminate chicken in case this is the culprit. I imagine I could still use the pumpkin puree with the white rice and maybe add some ground beef?

Ground turkey or beef will work ;) Turkey being alot less 'greasy' - pumpkin is great, keifer is great, you can use slippery elm too. I use a 400mg capsule and open it up over their food.

Yes you can. I seriously doubt that chicken is the culprit. My girl would get diarrhea out of the blue. If you give your dog too many bones with fatty center like sliced knuckles can cause it too. I made that mistake one day. Marrow bones have been fine, like soup bones , but again just one a day. I think they can get diarrhea from growth spurts and of course teething times. I mixed 1 tablespoon puree with a cup of cooked rice and then a cup of kibble and it did the trick too, usually one day. I feed once in the morning and then evening.
