That's a very good thought and probably true. I've mixed food bowls up before too when one is on meds and the other isn't and it always worries me but mistakes can happen.

You DID help people with this thread. You can definitely count me in as one of them.
Granted that this was just an accident and your neighbor was not 'trying' to harm your dog but reading all of this thread and about your dog and your troubles has done a pretty good job of kicking me out of my recent bad habits of not paying proper attention when taking my girls out in the yard / places other people have access to.
I am definitely working harder now to make more frequent checks / inspections around my yard / places where they are going to be and with watching them a little closer if I see them rooting around / sniffing at something on the ground.
You reminded me that this thing can happen to anyone and at any time. Personally, I am definitely trying to be more attentive now when they are out in the yard and especially more vigilant about going out for a quick look around before they go out in it.

Agree it is helpful! There are still ongoing studies in humans and dogs both, concerning cause, acute vs chronic , pros and cons of probiotics etc. I am just so sorry your pup is the focus of our education.
So Saturday started the mucous poops that turned into bloody diarrhea x24hrs.
Was very difficult to stop the bloody diarrhea and nausea. She had so many episodes that I was concerned about her losing too much blood. You could tell she was weak and not feeling well. I prob should have taken her to the animal hospital but I do not have a good relationship with any of them down here and tbh, I just don’t trust them. I knew what was wrong and was doing everything right except that I don’t have the ability to give IV fluids and nutrients. We were both outside- I was doing my flower beds and she was at my side. I was watching her close and just wanted her to get over the hump of stop having so much bloody diarrhea. Finally, Sunday evening at about 1830, she stopped the diarrhea. So it took about a day to kick in and finally got it back under control- 3-1/2 huge tablets of Pro Pectilin, antibiotic/anti diarrhea med Metronidazole and anti nausea Cerenia.
Sunday evening- drinking water eagerly the entire time- somewhat lethargic but showing periods of energy.
Monday- Started back on the Royal Canin low fat wet dog food- only because you could tell she was hungry, wanting to eat and I knew she needed some kind of nutrients from all the blood she lost. Gave her bone broth and two tablespoons of wet dog food- lunch and dinner. Monday evening was running some with Rag.
Tuesday- stopped the Pro-Pectilin and Cerenia but continued with Metronidazole. Acting okay…not extremely energetic but not lethargic either. Increased wet low fat food to half a bowl with bone broth. I know it’s too early but really looking forward to and hoping for a solid poop. I know you are thinking it, as it was in the back of my mind also. This could easily be a partial to full blockage/obstruction that has ripped her gut causing all the bloody drama. Need to establish this soon because of possible lack of blood flow to the gut.
Wednesday eating and acting regular. Back to kicking Ragnar’s arse out in the yard. Finally get the raw goats milk. At 1800hrs, she turns and squats a large poop. To say I was very happy is mild. A huge relief for now it’s no way a blockage and just need to heal a mutilated/inflammed gut from the previous fish fry oil.
Gonna take it slow with the low fat dog food, goats milk and probiotic.

Considering how sick she’s been, she is looking really good. I was worried she might be too thin by now, but this all looks good!
Not sure about where you are at but for me - I consider myself very lucky as there are a LOT of them to choose from all within a short distance from home.
If I were to take a map and draw a circle representing 10 minutes of driving time from my house (with the house being in the middle of the circle) - I bet there are 10 different clinics to choose from. Most of which have multiple different Vets on hand.
3 clinics near me within walking distance...
LOL, it takes me 15 minutes to drive to the nearest paved road and another 15 minutes to get to town. I do like my vet (a 40 minute drive from my house), but they are a country vet clinic and I'd have to go to another town 2.5 hours away to find a specialist of any kind.
Wow you are lucky indeed these days. We have two vet clinics in town and both of them are down to one vet. There is one down the road from us and his young vet recently had a stroke and she's only about 34 years old. Our vet will get someone to come in and after one winter here they say "nope".
Having seen a bunch of your pictures with unreal amounts of frozen stuff in them - I can't say I blame them!
The older I get - the less my body can stand the cold. I would shrivel up and die if I had to do a single winter like you handle seemingly with ease.
They are both beautiful! I'm so glad she is back on the mend again! How scary this is all been. And it just kills me that it was from a neighbor just doing a stupid thing. If I was the neighbor I would be helping you with your medical bills! I would feel terrible. But then again I wouldn't have done what she did. I think this whole thread is very educational! I'm sorry that you and Freyja have to go through it to teach us all something though.
