Rubie has a Limp

Vet just called and said he didn't see any tumors but did see some osteophytes which pop up around arthritis areas.

Continue giving Dasuquin and finish out the pain meds we have. Then, depending on Rubie, monthly injections of Adequan or something new called Librela might be options to manage, long term. To think I almost bumped down our insurance to save on premiums which went up about 50% this year I'll go pick her up in a bit!

Glad she is ok and they figured it out. Hope she feels better soon!

Resurrecting this thread!

Now we're dealing with some back leg issues. Last fall or so I noticed that her right ankle (?) was larger looking than the left. No signs of pain or limping but we went to get it checked out. Vet gave us some anti-inflammatory and we did a pretty decent 6 weeks of avoiding ass-hatery, I'll call it. We still did our routine walks but she was NOT given the ability to run like crazy in the yard and we've been cutting off their stair access for quite some time, anyway. No noticeable difference in reducing the size of that ankle but, again, at that time here was no pain, limping, noticeable discomfort.

Fast forward to the last couple of weeks and I noticed that when she's standing still, Rubie will cock that back right leg. Still no limping, slowing down, running and jumping like she's still 3, pretzels herself when sleeping. But the cocking of the leg was new. Vet did some maneuvering of her back legs and said she thinks there is ligament tenderness/damage in both her knees. Not torn but something going on.

So back to anti-inflammatories and STRICT rest for 2 weeks to see if there any improvement. If yes, then we figure out if we can manage long term with the medicine and probably just let her stop running up and own the fence at 100mph. If no improvement, then perhaps we do some imaging to see if there is something else going on and/or if a surgical option would help.

We also have a lick granuloma to work through on the left leg. Vet recommended Dog Leggs Hock Sock; anyone had experience with them? I haven't had a chance, yet, to go read up on the Granuloma threads but we've somehow managed to go 9.5 years without one! I'll need to see if our insurance will cover it if it's vet recommended but purchased directly from the manufacturer.

Aww poor girl. I hope you can get some answers and treatment for her. I've never dealt with that particular issue but Albert did develop arthritis in his hind leg/s due to the tick borne disease he had as a pup.

Yeah... the interesting thing will be to see how our new insurance handles it. Because of our previous insurance, we had zero hesitations going to vet. They very well could say this was a 'pre-existing "condition" ' because she's been on meds from a previous visit regarding that right leg (where we didn't notice any 'swelling' going down but there were no clinical signs of pain).

Moose had an ear infection recently and we were denied coverage because he received seasonal allergy shots, last year. Weird place to be in when you thought you were doing the right thing for years and years and now there are very detailed notes about their whole lives and vet visits that feel like they can be used against you. Whether they'll apply this visit to our deductible (for the right leg, not the granuloma) unfortunately might make the imaging question more difficult to answer we'll see.

I've heard pet insurance has gone way down hill the last few years and it's a shame when you pour so much money into it, whether it's used or not.
