It is stretchy so it is easier to not over tighten. But I don't think it lets the skin breathe much, as it is kinda difficult to only wrap in a single layer, but if you cut the wrap in a few thinner strips and maybe don't have it sit in the same place all the time every time?
Best to not pull on the wrap when putting it on as to not have it get tighter.

"My" vet tech used vet wrap to fasten the tampons in my dog's ears.

(We were three people; the tech to do the posting, another to hold the puppy still and me to hold a treat for him to lick on, my puppy was ALL complete wriggles ALL the time:facepalm:)

I think I might give it a try in the morning. Maybe like you said smaller straps and then just watch it over the day to see how it’s doing! That way if smth happens I can take it off instantly! Thank you for the suggestion! I have high hopes that this might actually help until I can fully post again 😭❤️

Since I had mentioned the vet wrap... I wanted to add that skin and hair should be dry before putting it on. And having said that I would assume that on DRY skin/hair the tape you were previously trying to use would also stick?
I think the most important thing is that the skin is allowed to completely heal before anything else.

Yes dry, but oily from the solution from the vet! The problem was that were were told to keep applying it until we finish with antibiotics, and I was trying to find a way to post but leave out the tip of the one ear to continue healing. That’s why I asked around here if there was any ideas and why the ears were left down up until now. Of course I wouldn’t jeopardize her health for getting her ears to stand. So I do want to continue using what the vet gave us on the healed ear as well. So here’s a little bit of a process that we do, clean ears and surrounding with hydrogen peroxide, the wound on her ear gets disinfected with that as well as a wound spray from the vet, that’s sits for 60seconds as per instructions then gets patted dry with the pads we got so basically sterile cotton pads that don’t fuzz. Then dryes. Solution (suloran ) gets applied inside and out all over, wound gets neosporin as that has helped now. Then all that dries and leaves a oily film after dried. We tried posting as I have learned, on healthy ear with tampon, gold bond in bell and on sides and then tape.. the other same but as half post (where top war is left out so the wound can breathe and heal) it worked in theory but since the solution leaves the skin and hair oily (it’s sort of like oily hair the first day you notice you need to wash hair/ is getting oily.) and the tape did not stick. We did use vet wrap last night after i watched videos on how to, like what to look out for, and that worked decently. The problem is this the same, without the tape sticking they just slide out as soon as she shakes. The vet wrap sticks but the post doesn’t in inside. We did also not wrap whole ear as I had the same thought with moisture but I basically used strips of vet wrap on 3 spots of the ear (2 for bad ear) like I would usual tape. My issue is just her ears are not standing and she’s getting close to six months. Of corse healing comes first but I was hoping I can allow healing while still not having her have been cropped for no reason.. especially since one ear is now pretty hard in the fold..so at this point even if all was good I am concerned it will not stand. So for now we just have to wait.. wait until Sunday when we don’t need to use the Oily stuff anymore and then just hope hope hope. I am grateful for every advice given and of course will keep updating just in case anyone ever has this problem hopefully finds help

Oh, I forgot, Vetericyn is widely recognized as (one of) the best solutions for wound cleaning and healing.

Can you put the molefoam such that it supports the area where the ear is folding? If you can prevent any further folding, it will be better in the long run. And maybe that area is low enough on the ear to avoid the open sores? Also, I wouldn't use hydrogen peroxide on wounds as it delays healing. You've got the polysporin to help with that.

I have only heard about vet wrap and that you must be careful it doesn't get wet. When wet, it will tighten around the ear. If you can keep it dry (does oil count as wet?) then you can use vet wrap.

Yes thank you! That would have been my first too as I had that for my horses Candida infection years and years ago but sadly we can’t get it here 😭 we can order it apo but it literally takes 6 weeks for a package to arrive on post 😭 but thank you ❤️

This is the progress now with suloran and neosporin and Antibiotics (antibiotics I believe 3 days today) infection is gone and it’s healing. But very slowly. We are going to try a zinc Healing paste/powder thingy, tonight as well as the vetricin reminded me of a „cream“ I had for my horses and cuts from crosscounrty etc. so my thought is now try that for a night and reduce „medicine“ added to it as I know it CAN slow healing, and since the infection is handled I will keep y’all updated on that! Hopefully Germany has that 😂😭

Oh I also completely forgot to mention the infection was caused by streptokokken (I THINK streptococci in English?!) just in case anyone ever has this same problem maybe can also find help and of course continuing this until it’s all good and healed! But it was also only in the wound and didn’t infect any other areas, however what started that bad rotting process was caused by t he bacteria spreading through the ears

Back in the day…..I had some open wounds on base, sides and tips of Ragnar’s ears. About 1/2" of the outside tip on both ears. They were both bloody and goey--close to infection.

I kept posting because I did not want any time down and I did not want it exposed. He is so damn rough that he would have gotten dirt all in it.

I went to the drug store and got some 4x4 sterile gauze. I cleaned the wounds thoroughly with Vashe wound cleaner and then put Silvasorb gel on the ear wound and also on a cut out portion of a 4x4 gauze.

When you put the back taped backerrod in the ear tape, tape the base around the ear first to secure it in the ear, then go up to the middle and tape that in-all the while going towards direction of ear fold.

This will help secure the backerrod in the ear while you fold the tip of the ear back and place half of the cut 4x4 on backerrod and then fold it over on top of the ear.
IMG_2713.JPG

Mind you that this piece of 4x4 gauze is not dry nor is the wound area. It is saturated with Silvasorb gel. If I was you, I would go online and buy Vashe wound cleaner and Silvasorb gel. This stuff is priceless! It is phenomenal stuff for wounds and infections.

When you wrap the area of the wound and fold it over like a taco, the wound is now covered and protected (the Silvasorb gel will help it heal). You can now tape over it and secure this area to the backerrod and not have to worry about it flopping or getting dirt on the exposed wound. Also, when I took the tape and 4x4 piece off for reposting, I was slow and careful, it did not pull at the wound area because the 4x4 was previously saturated with the gel.

I apologize if confusing or I am missing one of your thoughts/questions. I threw this together at work.

I want to say yes on the colloidal silver but let me ask our wound care doctors.

What Are the Ingredients in SilvaSorb Gel?

By Staff WriterLast Updated April 7, 2020
The ingredients in SilvaSorb gel are ionic silver in an amorphous hydrogel base, states WoundSource. Ionic silver, or silver sulfadiazine, is an antibiotic that helps stop the growth of bacteria in open wounds, according to MedicineNet.com

SilvaSorb gel works by releasing silver at a controlled level to provide antimicrobial protection over a broad spectrum of bacteria and fungi. It is biocompatible with tissue cells and is indicated for use on surgical wounds, lacerations, abrasions, and first- and second-degree burns, according to WoundSource.
Silver sulfadiazine is classified as a sulfa antibiotic. It helps stop the growth of infection-causing bacteria, decreasing the risk of bacteria spreading to surrounding skin or to the blood where it can cause sepsis, reports MedicineNet.com. Sulfa drugs work at the molecular level by binding and inhibiting a specific enzyme called dihydropteroate synthase, according to NIH. They are the first class of antibiotics ever discovered, revolutionizing medicine when first used in the 1930s,
Hydrogel, or hydrated polymer, is composed of 90 percent water in a gel base, which helps regulate fluid exchange from the wound surface, states Nancy Morgan, registered nurse, of Wound Care Advisor. Hydrogel dressings provide moisture to cool the wound and reduce pain. Hydrogels do not adhere to wound surfaces, reducing discomfort when dressings are changed.

The research I found stated that colloidal silver has great benefits to healing wounds- it is effective against gram (-) and gram (+) bacteria.

I really could not get any kind of definitive answers on the difference between Silvasorb and colloidal silver.
But….. Silvasorb is a hydrogel with silver impregnated in it for a moist wound environment. Colloidal silver is tiny silver particles in a liquid that can be sprayed into wounds. Colloidal silver is also ingested for ailments.

I really really like the Vashe, I soak it up in a cotton ball and then drip it onto the infected area and let it soak in. Done this numerous times with asshat Ragnar. Also did it for human spider and cat bite infections. I drip soaked it on a bad spider bite I had and I could literally feel it tingling inside the wound.

Too bad you are out of Manuka honey- that stuff has fantastic healing properties. We use the shit out of all these products: Vashe, Silvasorb and Manuka honey here at our hospital. We see lots of diabetic foot ulcers, BKA’s/AKA’s, abdominal wounds, etc….

Where are you in Germany? I was stationed in Darmstadt, Hanau and Frankfurt back in 89-92.

Feel free to ask anymore questions or concerns.

Thank you so so so much! That’s my concern too of leaving them down especially now and having been down for so so long! I saw the ingredients you posted below and I will try to go to pharmacy and look around online to find something comparable To it for now! We have it ordered via Amazon but Being overseas and with the military things just take a Long Long time and im hoping by then it’s healed 😭 but we ordered it just to have in the future but with the ingredients I’m hoping the pharmacy here can help luckily that’s good here because they actually can mix creams together for you so maybe I can even get an almost replica! But I am so so so grateful for the quick answer and will try the gauze and saturate it. I’m hoping I can work around the tape not sticking/ will talk to vet about stopping the solution they Grave us for the whole ear!

You may be able to mix the colloidal silver and the neosporin to create your own hydrogel in order to keep that gauze pad moist and NOT sticking to the wound when you take tape off to repost.

I would think, in essence, you are adding the healing properties of tiny particles of silver to the antibiotic gel.

That was my thought! If they can’t whip something up or “replicate” it to get pure colloidal silver, vitamin e oil and mix it together with neosporin and make my own mixture 😂 at this point I’ll try anything! We still have Manuka honey too, I still add it along with her food, however it’s sooo sticky and just gets absolutely everywhere and with gauze we did try that it seems to stick to it way to much and pulling off the scabs that have healed over it but it did definitely in my opinion stop the infection from spreading. I love that stuff. We use that religiously on us as well. Cuts, burns anything really 😂 and it was the first thing I put on once I noticed it when it was still just a small wound. And were over in Kaiserslautern stationed at kaput( vogelweh) and super close to Ramstein which is probably more know 😅 so actually really close to where you were at! Like maybe an hour car ride?! I know it’s an hour to Frankfurt from here
