Ear cropping .-.

So my woman took our puppy in to go get looked at by the vet.
They finally understood what we were talking about with that tip of her ear and that it wasn't going to be even if the tip falls off. They pretty much said they will fix it by doing another surgery .-. so looks like poor Princess Leia will have her ears fixed this next Friday. They also mentioned that they don't want us to post her ears anymore until the surgery is complete. What do you guys think of this? I say keep posting because a whole week without it will set me pretty far back don't you think? Let me know what you guys think.

You Have Gotten Some Good Advice. I haven't read through everything, so if i repeat something already mentioned, I apologize. Read Up And Watch YouTube Videos On The Backer Rod posting method. I know at first, it seems like it may be overwhelming, but it's very simple and gets easier every time. The Hardest Thing At First, Is Getting The Pup To Hold Still. Which, also in time, they relax. You Will Be Fine Not Posting. You Can Actually Wait Until The Stitches Are Removed And The Scabs heal. That's what I am doing and a lot of vets and others here will recommend

I would NOT let them recrop her ears. The tip can be removed where it’s been cut if that is necessary.
Ask for a credit on the cost of her first crop. It is not worth putting the pup through another anesthesia. Keep posting her ears. My female lost the very tip of her ear from face wrestling with my male pup. It really isn’t noticeable.

I agree with @Tropicalbri's and @NikiL02. I would NOT let the vet re-crop the ears. Is that what they told you? -that they’d re-crop both ears. Did the vet show you what the new crop would look like? My biggest concerns would be putting the pup under anesthesia again and how will the new crop look like -obviously shorter but is this vet skilled enough to re-crop? Has he ever performed a re-crop? Take a few days to re-think the whole thing. Sometimes I get caught up in the moment and when I’ve had time to process all the information my decision changes.

If you do go through with it - I would stop posting and do what the vet requested. I’m sure they’re telling you to do that so that the ear is floppy and is easier to handle/position for re-cropping.

Nope, nope, nope--wouldn't do it.

Even if it is noticeable, I would chalk it up to a war wound of character. But as others have said, one may not be able to tell. People tend to look at the entire Doberman, not distinctly at the tips of the ears. And if they do and they critique, I hope they get close enough for her to take a bite of their ass.

Though it is considered safe, most people outside of the medical field do not realize, going under anesthesia is really not a good thing to do, if you do not have to. Messes with your brain if done too many times.

I am a critical, symmetrical person in the way I see things. As is the way the Army molded me--everything dress right dress. And yes, I know....if it was Ragnar with this problem, I would be upset but again I would not go to the jackhole who did it in the first place and sent him home with a taped helmet. Also, I would be ready to start posting.

I would easily be fine with calling it a battle scar.

That’s what I did with Bacall. Hers was a battle scar from my two playing and wrestling. I notice it but other people don’t. It gives her added character.
I am having a difficult time believing this Vet would risk another anesthetic episode just to re-crop. I know the vet I work for would not be willing to do that unless there was another surgery required that involved anesthesia and he could fix the ear at the same time.
I just don’t think it is worth the risk of anesthesia. While the anesthesia is considered safe these days, there is ALWAYS a risk associated with it and I would not be willing to take that risk for something minor.
You can see the tip missing on Bacall but it isn’t overly noticeable.AAD2F94E-9444-4E94-BA92-F04FCCC485FA.webp

Agree with all the advice. Not worth it. The credit is an awesome idea @NikiL02, plus you can't trust this vet again and you don't want your pup to end up with very short ears, it will look like butchery which is way than a missing tip.

@Tropicalbri's - Bacall's ears look perfect to me. I don't see anything? Amazing the 'flaws' we can see in our own dogs. It's true what they say, we are our own worst critic.

Thanks, Guys I talked to my woman and were not gonna put her through that again.
We are keeping up with the post and the ears are looking great. Might have a set back because after the vet visit they took the post I did out since they wanted me to leave them down until the next surgery, so we left them unposted for about a day but her ears held the whole time which I hope is a good sign. But shes rewrapped and post are back in.
We're gonna call the vet and give them our final decision Monday and ask for some type of refund or something since our dissatisfaction about them messing up the point of her ear.

ears update
where I tape the bottom of her ears there like a dent? or curve to her ears is that normal ? or can it be corrected?
