Doberman puppy owners - track your weight gain here

Both are pretty thick in their flanks and both need their nails cut way back!
The dogs from the mid sixties were similar to the American Dobermann in height and weight and were German breed dogs. (27-28 to the withers and 80-90lbs)
Beginning in the 1990's the breed branched out to become Euro Breeds and unfortunately many greeder kennels were hatched in Italy and Serbia and Russia. They started out being respectable but the all mighty dollar creep ed in.

I would say both of your dogs are a bit to heavy especially for the hot months. The pup is already back on his pasterns so get those nails cut and dremmeled back. Do a little at a time to get him trained to accept it. (some treats will ease his caution)
Are they being protection trained? I see PP collars on them. I would get that ear taped up right away and posted he still has a shot at
getting it up.

Train train train........or a Dobermann will be a pain in the butt!
She’s 3 so I don’t think it will help, will it? Nails are tonight

Whoop Whoop

8 weeks 9Kg = 19.8 Lb

Then, for good measure here are 2 photos, Conformance from the side and conformance from the front (chest width)

height is 400mm.... made a simple dog measuring stick out of 2 piecse of plastic electrical tubing cross lashed together & pulled tight, and by stint of pushing the horisontal bar up and down, got it at the withers

Thanks Charlie...
If you have been following this Grumbling saga, She was bred from 2 unregistered dogs, and, although I was happy with what I saw of the sire & dam, I had concernes about the nutritional content post suckling.

Now by no means am I an expert... But through my involvement with Dobies, 10 + years ago, my rheumy-right-eye did learn a thing or three, so I took a gamble.....

Think I got lucky, but I took the plunge, mostly on her nature & reactions at first viewing, the dam is only 3Yo and there where only 4 pups in the litter...

Hopefully this week I'll be getting the contact number of a well respected Dobie breeder, and I hope to set up a look-over....

Fun in the field on Sunday, asleep in the sun

Haven't you ever experienced a suckling Doberman before? Many of our dogs do it and I find it very endearing and relaxing.

Or do you mean his nutritional content after he was weaned from his dam?

Morning JanS

Sorry, yes I meant weaned... Bad choice of words...

Cuppla things that raised my rheumy right eye's eyebrow when I arrived for the viewing...

Pups had not been inoculated & de-wormed, (Indicating an unwillingness to spend money, given that the 24H dog-doc. is one suburbian block up and one block along)

And to the same rheumy eye, she was a bit on the light side.... Not that she was thin / emaciated, just under weight, but as it's been 10+ years since I had Dobies with that observation, I was on shakey ground.

Oh, and did she stink! (also showing not much care)

Anyhow, those and one or two more thsmall things where indicators to me to question post weaning nutrition

So as soon as I handed over hard moola it was round the corner & into the dog-doc, de-worm / inoculations / microchip & weight
Popped the scale at 9Kg = 19.8Kg @ 8 weeks

Seems now she's slightly ahead of the curve....

THNKS Charlie,
I'm going to graph these results and track Grumble's but Grumble is a lady.... So I'm expecting a slightly lower final result?

I would imagine so, yes. I’m expecting Charlie will probably reach the upper end for males too from what I’ve been told. I keep a spreadsheet too with a log of his weigh ins to make sure he’s not gaining too rapidly.

@Nutz , I assume you know I was using the word "whopping" sarcastically. 71 pounds is, of course, for a male Doberman who just turned 4 years old quite unusually light.

Hi Charlie.

Sorta got that, my research says : -

Male 40 - 45Kg Female 32 - 35 Kg.................... Male 88.18Lbs - 99.2Lbs & Female 70.5Lbs - 77.16Lbs...

What's 5 odd Kg between a man and his dog??? Ain't gonna mean nuttin when them Dobi-dentures latch onto some dude's christmas tree decorations.... :wow:And you can bank on that !

Anyhow, If my antiquated 486 biological processer's memory banks haven't been currupted by dust ingress, The weight gain is pretty much consistant, it's all in the tapering off that the final weight's set..

Hehehehe just took the gap to get some smiles up-loaded thanks, but I'm already 90 % done..

THANK YOU GOOD SIR !

So this weekend: -

Week 8 (First week)
9Kg = 19.84 Lbs

Week 11
Weight 12.4 Kg = 27.33Lbs
Height 435mm = 17.12 Inches
