Doberman puppy owners - track your weight gain here

How are your dogs all so heavy?

I just weighed Ace at the vet and he's 10 kg at 16 weeks!!!! He looks good to us and the vet so thats not the problem. Although I like to see pups a little fatter than he is right now.

Is this normal?

Mila is a lightweight too. She's tall, but at 18 months, only 68 lbs I think is what I last weighed her in at. She eats plenty, LOVES to run, and is very healthy. Vet loves her progress. They are all so different with their weight. Myself, I usually go by ribs. If I can see them too much? Then the dog is too thin. Same I use with our Shih Tzus because we have naturally athletic Shih Tzus too - they also love running, lol.

My Thanos baby is 10 months even, 28inch +, and weighs NINETY SIX POUNDS LEAN. The vet says his body fat is at a perfect level as well. He appears to have very little on his body. I call him my little moose and sack of meat. He’s been still growing too. Doesn’t seem to be stopping, only slowing down slightly. HOW MUCH MORE WILL YOU DO BABY MOOSE?!

That depends on how much you keep feeding him. My boy was pretty much done growing by 10 months. He was 90 at nine months but only gained a few more pounds to reach 94 before I put him on a diet and got him back down to 82.

I know many people want a huge 100lb Dobe but most of the time carrying that much weight isn't good for their health in the long run. That of course depends on what you're doing with the dog. Some of the top show Dobes in EU are 100lbs but they just sit around most of the time. If you live an active life and want your Dobe to keep up, 100lbs is tough on them.

When my boy was 94lbs the vet said he was in great shape without much body fat. When I got him back down to 82, the vet agreed he looked much better.

I did not want a huge dobie. I wanted a 75-80lb dobie but he won’t stop growing. Confirmed with my two trainers and the vet that his body fat is fine. I’m hoping he stops growing soon. The vet says based on how open his growth plates are that he should be 110-115 lean by about 3 years old. I REALLY don’t want that. He runs and plays non stop on my property and at the dog park every day of the week so his BF is fine. He’s nearly 29 inch’s now.

That's probably worth an extra 10 lbs compared to my boy at 28". Once you are certain he is done growing (aka not getting any taller) his weight should be pretty easy to control. Drogon and I were very active too. We trained in IPO and hiked for 5-8miles most everyday. He ran on a treadmill when the weather was really bad. I was feeding him 4 cups a day (ACANA) when he was 94lbs. I gradually cut his food back to 3 cups a day and got him down to 82. He lost 14lbs in about 3 months.

What are you feeding him? Lol, he's huge!

Hahah! He’s super lean! I feed him Canidae ALS (multi protein formula) 2 cups BID with Tbsp of Kefir each meal and anchovy/sardine oil (3pumps SID). He also gets a lot of baby carrots and has been digging up all my Sunchokes and eating them!:rp:
He and Tank recently went through a week of diarrhea so I was shocked he gained! I figured he would stay 80!

Lol even after diarrhea? Lucky! Ya, Remy has never looked overweight.

I tried the Kefir and it gives him the runs. Have yet to try the sardines. How exciting!
