Correction, 2 days. Prices after entry, handler, food, gas and lodging fees is a lot so we are gonna dial it back for this one so we can do more shows spread out throughout the rest of the year.

I think that's a good plan. I'm sure Ripley is much more seasoned but Phoebe does much better on day one and by day two I can see it's getting old for her by show 2 on day two. Our fall show is 3 days/6 shows but I'm only going to enter her and 4 shows at most and chill with friends on the last day.

That'll be fun!! I actually enjoy those 3-4 day shows because it becomes home for a bit surrounded by all my favorite things. Dogs, friends, camping and good food! Ripley usually has plenty of energy to spare, shes always raring to go before shows and gets one little warm up then save the rest of that energy for showing. Her handler likes her like that because they tend to show better, especially if you don't discourage it and they think it's all fun and games. Once we get home though it's the best version of Ripley. She's lights out for 10+ hours recharging her batteries I hope you guys have lots of fun!!

Ripley showed like a little machine this weekend. No love for her for her first time in open class, she did place 2/3 at least. She may still be a little young for that class still as her lines are slower to mature and the others were simply bigger bitches, making her look small even though she is at the top end of the standard. She's such a good girl though... doing everything she's supposed to along with her killer expression and eagerness. She loves to show! We all (including her, she gets credit too!) received praise and compliments from her handler and others, encouraging us that we are doing the right thing and giving handling tips to Derek for showing her. Her handler just loves Ripley's fire and heart that she puts into whatever she does.



Derek wasn't left out as he got to handle Lenny (owned by Ripley's breeder) both days and did quite well with her! She's not Ripley and isn't as trained yet but she was a great experience for him! He handled her once before and it was her first time showing on grass so she pulled her lead down so hard and wanted to sniff the grass So this was an improvement for them! Not all dogs are going to be your own and are as easy to handle because you get to personally work with them every day She did great considering!

I picked up Ripley's win photo from August before we left. It is amazing the growth that happens in a year! Especially her neck to shoulder flow and her overall body/chest fill. I try to remind myself of this when people tell me she still has growing to do...

Same here hahaha... so it's ok! It is amazing how much time they take to mature and how much they continue to mature. I thought she looked pretty adult like a year ago and then now she looks even better. Dobermans are like a fine wine...

I'll tell you guys first, showing can be exhausting. Especially in this breed. With the incredibly tough competition and high amounts of professional handlers. Then if you have a slower to mature dog, you have to remind yourself constantly that your days will come... and that slow maturity is a good thing. It means slow aging.

Ripley won reserve both days this weekend with Derek handling her! Reserves are at least something saying she is deserving of the points, there just happened to be a nicer dog, or possibly better handled, or politics came into play, who knows... But when she's now getting a major collection of reserves, I feel like that at least says something lol. Everyone always tells us their dog got a lot of reserves and then, boom, the points don't stop coming. That dam of reserve ribbons has to break eventually!

But they showed really well! I find myself these days only having one or two minor nitpicks at most when he asks after how'd they look. Even then I told him: there are times you could nitpick your handling to death to why you possibly didn't win and it have nothing to do with it or your dog. It just stings when experienced Dobe people you don't personally know come up and say "I thought your dog was nicer and moved better" I guess they need to become a judge then

If anything Derek is staying determined (trying to) and working harder at his handling because of all this. He is getting noticed and will have opportunities to help handle others dogs soon too so he can continue to get better

I bet she would surprise you! They catch on quick, especially when you shove grilled chicken and steak in their face for simply moving a foot

Thank you Yes! They got to have fun at the end of a good girls day. I have to laugh because we had some RV neighbors about 50ft away, watching, almost in horror it seemed
