Ripley Show Thread

I noticed that and her chest is filling out way faster than her sisters.
You think so? You should see some of the chests on ones in the ring, especially on younger ones. I almost think some are overdone. I see/hear comments about fronts being too extreme lately. She's a little long in the leg in the rear in my eye so it makes her look long overall but she's almost exactly square in body in length and height.

She's looking SO GOOD!!!!!
Isn't she!? I still see her as a goofy puppy at home. Its amazing to see the difference when she's in show mode.

I’m super excited for you guys, she’s such a special, awesome little lady.
She really is. She couldn't have entered our life at a better time. We both really needed her and her unconditional love that she gives and her always happy personality that draws so many people in. We are both kind of homebodies liking to stay home so she gets us out there and meeting new folks just as crazy about their dogs as we are 😁

Such an awesome photo of Team Ripley! Tell them both I'm proud of them and a wee bit envious I didn't delve into this "sport" for Asha.

Personally I've seen some exaggerated chests that are really really going down the wrong road conformationally. I definitely think many fronts are too extreme when looking at random photos across the internet... however, your dog looks perfect. I love that her other activities are showing up in every inch of her body. Those defined muscles are beautiful!

Trying not to toot my own bias horn (but it is a thread about her!) I personally love that she doesn't look extreme (and Phoebe too for that matter). Its interesting how many people have said something about that too to us. That she looks substantial in body and ability to work but still looks like a female. She has her flaws, as they all do. I'm slowly developing an eye for them as I watch dobermans in the ring, photos on the net in conformation groups, and try to read and reread the standard to learn. Thank you for the wonderful compliments. It truly warmed my heart!!  I'll be sure to let them know they have a support team from DCF rooting them on through this journey! :D

I definitely have to agree about some of them being over done; especially when they're young. After they really fill out and mature they probably will be out of proportion.
This was a couple days ago and the angle isn't great but it seems to me Ripley has a more filled out chest.

Ill have to grab a front shot, they look pretty close for depth of breast between the legs.

Congrats to team Ripley! Conformation is hard when you are handling your own dog....so kudos to you all!!!!!! I became very discouraged with it many years ago, because the "known" handlers always won. I had even taken a handling course with a professional...so great job!!!! She is beautiful, and I like to hear that the judge recognized her for how she looks, instead of "who" you guys were. ;)

It's been a while since I updated this thread but thought I would share her end of the year ad for UKC with you guys. Ripley ended 2021 as the #6 Doberman for UKC!! Not bad for limited showing against other dobes (how they earn top ten points) and for their first year! So proud of them and they keep getting better together as a team!

This year we are focusing more on AKC aiming for a show every month for the next 6 months to see how she does in Ambred. She may need to continue to mature a little more... not unusual to not finish until 3 for some lines, especially a female. We are enjoying the journey wherever it takes us, it has been full of wonder and learning. Hard to believe she's not even 2 until May! It has felt like a lifetime and there's still so much to try and enjoy together. I give major credit to breeders who show and title multiple dogs!

We signed up for one show today in UKC to get her back out there since Dec. Then we will be at the AKC Indy Winter Classic for a day next week at the DPCI specialty. 60 dobes! Should be lots of fun no matter the outcome! I'm excited to go shopping through all the vendors 👀😁

What an awesome ad! Did you design/make that? (If you did, are you for hire?) Love that you included her other sports photos - what an all around Doberman ad should look like!

What is Ambred? sounds like American Bred, but I can't think that AKC has divisions like that?

I'll be following along on this thread to not miss any of your event stories!

Thank you! I did and I am! 😁 I haven't made any ads for anyone but myself officially but I do graphic design so it comes with the territory.

Yep it's American Bred. Sire and Dam bred in America and offspring born here. It's one of the classes they can go to once they age out of the 12-18months class. My breeder told me usually if they need to mature more they go in the Ambred class as Open is typically full of all other matured dogs that haven't finished. It would be a lot tougher to win and make it out of Open to go for WB as she would be competing against and compared to older or more physically mature looking females. Gives her a more fair chance that way.

You two have done such an amazing job with her!

Gosh I feel like Phoebe needs so much more maturing until she can really be competitive. I've heard these line are slow to mature so I'm good with that.

Oh Ripley is just like her sister there. It's hard when you see younger flashier dogs win and sometimes finish super fast but hey, I rather Ripley actually be mature and what you see is actually what you get.

Excited to say Rip and Derek earned their first breed points this year and won the GCH class and Best of Breed against competition! Then they went on to win the Guardian group in a very competitive lineup! Pretty much every dog in that group you see has won a BIS before so truly an honor! They came out today just to have some fun and give Ripley a good experience since her last show she was in heat and they did just that!

Group
BIS (everyone is usually gone by this point or ready to go home 😅 so the clapping is so pathetic hahaha)

Derek loves the dog shows because he gets to do what he loves the most, pet and love on dogs ☺️ This little girl Beatrice is Ripley's half sibling and just the sweetest but also a little spitfire! She's owned by a junior handler who does so well with her and her 🔥!

And then there is Ripley; making sure people recycle. 😄

I know I am biased but Ripley seems to be so much more attentive in the lineup than any of the other dogs.
Maybe a little LOL. But we always laugh how Ripley absolutely doesn't care for warm up or waiting around ringside for her turn but then she gets in the ring and she's rock solid, especially in group...she holds that stack like a statue. A doberman specialty 😁

Very impressive and you're right, there were some really nice dogs in the group lineup (even though the Boxer looked a bit overweight). I think Ripley looked the best out there though.

Derek and Ripley placed first in Ambred at the DPCI specialty at the Indy Winter Classic under Judge Vicki Seiler Cushman!

Nothing in WB but a pretty huge win for them to win their class at a specialty! To add onto it it was so nice the amount of other Dobe people that took the time to compliment Ripley "she's a really nice bitch!!" Or the professional handlers stopping us to congratulate Derek and say that he looks great out there. Wow! It meant a lot to have experienced folks take time to say something nice to people new to the fancy. 😊

It was sooo cold. We had a 8am ring time so there before the sun was up. Derek joked "no more winter shows" 😆
