1. Whenever you recall, the more you are stern and consistent with it the faster it should come. That’s why using a long line is recommended- make the command and if she does not follow through, then use the line to pull/coax her to you. I’ve read and talk to some trainers say that the only time they use the dogs name is during recall- the ONLY time…. Both of those points are more difficult to do than said but if you are OCD about it and discipline, I bet it works great. And NEVER ever call her to you mad…

Thank you. Ill long line even at home now in the yard. I didn’t have to do that with Jasper since he picked it up so fast at the park. At home for him was even easier. I have been working on leash pressure, pulling the line and she refuses but once she takes a step towards me I reward. Maybe ill start adding the command “come” to this?

Good point about not calling her when im mad. I don’t get mean since she is a baby, but I’m sure there were a handful of times I was defeated/frustrated when I called her. Should be solves though if I have a line on her at all times outside. She follows me everywhere in the house.

May sound harsh but you need to skip a meal and get her ass hungry….then go train.

I feed mine 3x day- 0700, 1200, 6pm.

Therefore I would skip the lunch and use training time watered down, softened kibble for dinner. And if that would not work then I would skip breakfast, noon and feed during training at 1800hrs.

Hunger will get her attention and it will make you the absolute star for feeding her with praise when she completes a command.

The only problem I had with that was the initial 5-10 minutes, Ragnar would be sooo jacked up and hungry that it would be hard for him to settle and focus off the food and on the commands I was trying to teach.

Took 5-10mins and constant redirection to task but once he understood that if he does the command then he gets the food- it was easy sailing with that.

12AM right now. Dogs are happy I just got home from work. Remi is finally greeting me at the door like Jasper. Its really cute she makes this weird happy grumble sound when I pet her.

They get all pumped up, I allow them about a half hour of play time while I decompress. As long as they aren’t barking- for the neighbors sake. Then I tell them to settle and its quiet time.

I think she is growing? Its hard to tell because I see her every day. I wish I had a dog scale. I am finding that she is getting heavy when I carry her outside in the middle of the night. She is now 9weeks old today. Probably about 22lbs.

We have started to do recall training but its hard. She isn’t food motivated and not really toy motivated. So I am working out how to get her attention. I can clap and do the puppy talk and she ignores me. Lol! NOTHING like an eager dobie pup.

Personally I think this might cause her to have angst going to sleep hungry. If you feed lunch at noon that would be a long time with no food for her age. If you can make it work in your schedule, just skip breakfast, put it in a bag and take her & the breakfast out for some training. 10 minutes here, 5 minutes there.

Thanks! I ended up thinking the same and she was fed dinner. Tomorrow its going to be ridiculously hot outside but I plan to skip breakfast.

Her fecal came back all negative except moderate case of isospora sp. Kind of sucks because now I can’t take her to puppy class until she completes some meds and gets a full negative fecal. But I hope this helps with her soft stool and gets a tiny bit more weight on her. I can see her hip bones a bit and I know these danes need all the nutrients they can get with their rapid growth.

At the vet. She gained 4lbs in one week. Shes 24lbs at 9weeks old!

Pretty soon these night time potty breaks are going to kill my back. I have arthritis in my spine so it just takes one wrong move and I am out of commission for about a week. LOL

I'd definitely suggest saving your back! Ripley quickly outgrew me having to carry her up from downstairs to the mainfloor. I felt awful because they say puppies shouldn't use stairs but there realistically was really no way around it. I just took it careful and took her up on leash when she got too heavy. It took a little bit but it was good for her too to conquer her fears plus learn how to walk on leash early on. Wouldn't want you or the puppy to get hurt!

Frisbee time at the park. Only for a little bit as I forgot it was a weekend and it was kind of busy. Normally I don’t come in weekends because Jasper is usually off leash. On week days I can go a good hour without seeing a soul at the field I choose.



Wonder how this will play out in a few months. My new STI is a fantastic car and I won’t get rid of it. So ill just have to squish them in. LOL

They are doing fantastic! Sometimes he just stands there while she chews on his lips and neck lol. I can tell she is gentle though. Jasper still has an obsession with smelling her lady parts, but hes getting better since we have been correcting him.

Put the brats down for a nap after a good walk in some grassy fields. Mondays are great because there are less tourists at the park. Jasper doesn’t really like the slower puppy walking speed though

She is finally getting a little more meat on her now that she is on an antibiotic for a mild isospora case. Can’t see her hip bones. Her poops are also completely solid now. Once she is clear on a fecal I can finally take her to puppy socials.

I am thinking of taking her to Lowes tomorrow, well see.

Remi and I went to several stores today and with all the driving I feel like I need a nap. I plopped her on me, and she fell asleep. Probably won’t be able to do this next week with how heavy she is getting LOL

Meanwhile Jasper is patiently waiting his turn for some exercise. We’ll probably go for a bike ride soon.

Well Remi started a food strike this morning. Acting completely normal but won’t touch her food. I can hear her tummy growling so I think she is being picky. Ill skip dinner (because she is wasting food), and hopefully tomorrow morning she will realize she is going to eat what I offer her. I read this is extremely common in great danes.

Frustrating. I can’t remember a single day Jasper didn’t eat. Im wondering if I should completely stop the topper of wet food too and make her eat plain kibble? I usually do raw egg, sardines, fruit, or a scoop of wet food as a topper. Rotating every day.

I hate the food protest... I personally wouldn't stop the toppers, maybe add a dollap of cottage cheese? She is growing at a great speed, I don't know if you want to withhold food....I have a good friend with Danes, and you are correct. Very common. Her current boy has acid reflux, and she had to add Prilosec before bed. I would make the meals smaller so you don't waste food, and just add more as she eats if she eats.

My coworker has a 13 week English Mastiff and he weighed in at 50# this week, when he was 43# last week.

So Remi ate all her breakfast without any issues. All is well. I really hope this doesn’t become a normal thing, these giant breed puppies need all the food they can get.

I took an overnight shift tomorrow night. Now I am thinking that may have been a mistake with a new puppy at home. Lol! Im going to get out of work at 7am completely exhausted and ill have to watch a puppy. She may have to spend a few hours in her play pen while I sleep. Poor girl.

This week at work has been insane. We are a super small close knit town and we had a homicide. Pretty much unheard. I was working at the desk when I received multiple calls for a shooting and several parties hit. Unfortunately, one of the victims was an assistant fire chief of the town. Unbelievable. But my officers handled the situation unbelievably well considering we never get calls like this. No officers were hurt. Me- I am mentally tired. Single dispatcher handling incoming calls, and the police, fire, and rescue radios. The first hour was intense. But then another dispatcher came in to make sure I was okay. He helped taking phone calls while I handled the officers.
