Crop Pics - Lets see your style!

Jan forgive me if you already know this but I think they will always flip a bit if I am understanding what you talking about. The longer crops are not as stiff as say Della's are! I wasn't sure either ...Jake's ears being the only long crop I've dealt with and I was worried but when I saw video of some of the longer crops I realize that this was normal! I probably left the breathe right strips on longer than I had too! But what finally made me realize they were as good as they were going to be is that after a solid week of leaving them on there was really no difference in the stiffness;I figured good enough lol! I really did kind of expect them to be really stiff like Max's but they aren't! :confused2:. Anyway his ears look great and it doesnt' hurt to give support while he's young of course but I think they probably are as stiff as they are going to be :2centsSomeone else probably would know for sure because like I said this is my very first experience with the longer crop. How long are his ears?? Jake's are 5 inches and I was curious if Alberts were even longer. Max has a 4 inch crop quite a bit shorter! I really like the crop on both of mine but I'm not sure which I like best! For pictures I think I prefer Max's short ears they don't hardly move at all and sometimes Jake's can flip down and look funny so I usually don't keep those shots! At other times however his longer ears can look so awesome and I really like how they look so geez whatever lol, and beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder!

Here are our girls ears. Our vet has done many crops for many breeds, but he did not fancy the "show cut" for dobermans. I asked for a longer medium cut, however I do think the crop fit our girls, and I am happy with it.

Your girls are gorgeous! I would consider this a short crop! I'm so glad you posted because I think this is pretty close to the crop my Tidus has and I was worried that it wouldn't look good! But now seeing your girl has put my fear to rest they look good so I know he will look fine too! He's will be a year old in January! Darn it I have all his pics on the other computer! Just for fun would ya measure for me so I can tell?? It's really hard to tell how long a crop is with pictures...depending on the angle the same crop can look very different!

This is Tabu at 16 weeks. I stated that I didn't want a short crop, while I also didn't want crazy tall ears and so the vet came up with this. When they were 1st cropped I admit I was worried that I wouldn't particularly like them, but now that he is growing bigger by the day, his ears are really starting to suit his face, head and the rest of his body in size. I like this crop now. He is always smiling and growing to be very handsome, that's my boy. .

Hello! Thank you! I agree this is a short crop...i asked for a medium, but he had his own idea of what he thought would be right. Thankfully he was right! They are 5" , Just measured for ya! I am sure Tidus will look very handsome! When the girls were smaller i thought..Oh my! They are way to short, now that they are a year they look great! I think as they grow they go through weird stages of non proportionateness LOL (im sure i just made up that word but it works! LOL) I would love to see pics whenever you can get them up!

I guess it's about time I get a couple of Albert posted since he's already 16 months. I still need to find a good front shot, but these should give a pretty good idea of the shape. This is a very long crop and they take a long time to finish up. He still gets breathe rights in his left ear since it will tend to want to flip a little bit when he's running or super alert.

Side shot.

Front shot. I'll replace this one when I find or take a better one since it's not the greatest.

About time. :p

Wow I agree, your girls are gorgeous Tony and Amanda! The crop looks very nice on them and fits their heads nicely. Thanks for your kind words on Albert too. :)

Maureen, I wasn't sure about that with the long crops so it's good to hear from someone else who has one. He's sleeping right now, but I'll measure them when he rolls out of bed. I forget, where do you measure from to get a correct length?

I know what ya mean! However long they are they look good lol you must have measured differently though cause Jake's are 5 and I think they are considered long but it's ok not really that important! The guy that did Tidus was the same we asked for a medium crop and I know now he does it one way and that's it! I warned my daughter in law not to go to this vet but as it was it turned out ok.S he's a bargain hunter and this was about 200 cheaper than my vet but it was not something I would recommend and I have always trusted mine to listen to what I want even though she may be a bit pricey! I am not sure but I think Ti's are 3 1/2 inches.

I measured from the top of the head along the uncut front to the tip! I think I did it right according to D4! I didn't stretch it either I just laid the tape on the unstretched ear

I may have measured wrong, where do you start from? LOL I'm sorry! I agree, the vet should take into consideration what the owner is looking for, but in the end it is not our hand that does it..thankfully, for our girls and Tidus ...they look great. Bargain hunting can be dangerous and nerve racking, for us it was this vet or another. Thee vet we went to had the good experience and reputation. The other not so good. I couldn't and wouldn't leave my girls with him. It's hard to find a vet that crops these days and its a shame.

Here are our two dobermans ears. We are pretty happy with them even though we asked for Show cuts and these are only 4 inch long. We paid $600 EACH and that didnt include them tapping them every week.

I am shocked, worried, saddened and confused after seeing an ad on Kajiji tonight. It shows a delightful doberman puppy with what I consider a botched crop job. Hopefully I am wrong..but isn't 9 months too old to crop ? I remember how hard it was to find a vet to crop after 12 weeks. In fact I was going to give up until I heard they only start cropping at 4 months in Mexico.Fortunately Charlie was only a few days over 12 weeks and his vet did a wonderful job. In fact his ears stood as soon as the cup fell off and required almost no posting. The vets in mexico claim 16 weeks is the optimum time, the vets in US and Canada like it earlier than 12 weeks..but where do they do it at 9 months and expect good results ?
This ad was in Ottawa , Canada ...also I am not familiar with this posting style. I hope I am wrong.... but this looks like a botched job to me. :(

This is the ad
9 month old Female Doberman - Ottawa Dogs & Puppies For Sale - Kijiji Ottawa Canada.

They state the dog is 9 months old and although her ears were just done " they will stand "
I hope they are right but I have a really bad feeling about it.

Whatever vet cropped at 9 months deserves to be stripped of their license. The cartilage has already formed months prior, so that had to be extremely painful for the dog.
No chance whatsoever those stand on their own.

12 weeks is it. No later than that. That posting style is wildly unaffective as well.

So sad seeing this.

I am 100% in agreement with you. It breaks my heart to see dogs mutilated like this. I answered the ad and I asked them where they found a vet to do it so late. So far I have not had any response. I wanted to suggest they change their posting technique as well..but I didn't want to be overly aggressive.

This is absolutely horrible and I can't believe a vet would crop a 9 month old Doberman, and for what...Money!? Good grief...That poor puppy...=/
