Spay and heat cycles

I do think her nipples and other parts  are a little bigger than they were before she started but I thought I read somewhere here of others saying the same thing
Glad you mentioned this. Zastava's swelling has gone down but stopped before her pre-first-heat size and i was wondering if this is a typical permanent change. Glad to know I'm not the only one noticing this.

Ashas nipples have remained larger than a spayed female. An early-spayed female, the nipples are tiny and never develop, like a male dog. Not sure if they would shrink to "spayed size" after spaying and all the hormones are gone.

Peppers are pretty big, I get asked often if she’s had puppies. Assuming, she’s just got bigger nipples and that’s just her 🤷‍♀️

Well I'm glad I mentioned it then! Seems we all are noticing and thinking it's only us LOL

I never thought of that. I wonder. 🤔 But I kind of doubt it. I just feel it's their Anatomy now and I don't know if it's going to change. Anybody else with a spayed dog notice that?

Phoebe's definitely got bigger after her first heat. Della's were always smaller, even though she went through a heat too.

@MyBuddy where did you mean to put post 61 and 62?

Katyusha's equipment is all quite small, you almost can't find her nipples even by looking for them. She may not count for this discussion, though, as she was spayed before her first heat.
That's what I was saying. Any female spayed before first heat, I've never seen nipples develop. My 2nd Dobe was spayed very shortly after her first heat, but she did not have a false pregnancy ((1990's) I never saw nipples develop. Ashas got larger after her first heat and she did have a false pregnancy.

Great question and if anyone has a female left intact for over 2 years, with larger nipples due to false pregnancy or real pregnancy - then spayed, it would be very interesting to know if that is a permanent thing or if they reduce down with lack of hormones. I'm such a science geek.

I can let you know after Olive's spay in May. Hers are huge right now and never went down after nursing 8 pups but it would be interesting to see.
My friend with a CSV had a girl with 6 pups and she said hers went back to normal within a few months.

Called another vet in PA. They said the same they’d send her to a specialist because she is a risk… I’m losing my mind!
Is it safe for the rest of us to assume this PA clinic would not know your bond with Pepper? Just wondering if it could have been a factor in them sending you on, is all.

They don’t you’re right, just called for info. I also called a few in NY, breeder recommend. One said see a specialist and waiting on 2 others. If I must take a drive I will. Hoping one closer can help me out. 😫

Good grief, if none of those vets know what they're doing you might as well just find a spay/neuter clinic where they will just do it without all of the ridiculous specialist recommendations. She is SAFE to be done.

I was thinking that too calling the local spca/faithful friends.
I have one vet calling me back I sent off her paperwork they want to see it. Hoping theyll do it and then I’ll be their client!

I have called so many places asking of they’re well versed in vWD.

I’m frustrated 😣

Thank you Jan. Now it’s to get someone to do it and not send me off to a specialist. I do not trust my current vet.

That would be great if you could find someone who understands the breed and doesn't want to scalp you on extra charges.

I know this was from quite a few years ago but this is what it cost us for Della, including her vaccinations and wellness check. I'm guessing it will be around $500 now.
Vet bill for spay.webp
