She did have a temp drop this morning so we will see! She's doing a lot of resting and her milk just came in tonight.

I'm hoping it was busy and successful. I've been thinking about it since the report about the temperature drop a day or two ago!

Thank you guys for thinking of us and for being patient!! We appreciate it! Hubby and I had been up since Thurs evening when she started stage 1 labor which started with lots and lots of digging and nesting. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to use nesting as a tell because she already nests when she's not pregnant! But this was a bit more aggressive and obsessive! Repeatedly rearranging the same blankets she arranged 5 min prior, LOL.
She started stage 2 labor around 3pm Friday and her first puppy arrived at 7:15pm. The last puppy was born 3am this morning, so... to say we were all exhausted is an understatement!!! We've taken two naps for "sleep" today. If our eyes weren't closed, we've been tending to the puppies and a first time mom. I know my puppy people wanted an update so I did manage to quickly post on facebook (and fell asleep countless times before hitting send). Sorry this is delayed but posting same day as puppies being born, I think I'm doing okay.
Ripley did GREAT. She would have a puppy and rest for 2 hours pretty much on cue for every puppy. The second puppy was a big girl that was breeched, butt out tail out, feet folded inside. That one took some effort but she managed.
The next puppy though gave us a scare...She pushed and pushed for 40 minutes when I made the call that I did not feel comfortable waiting any longer (considering the drive to ER too), we were on our way to the ER and if she had it on the way, better to waste a trip than to not go and lose my girl or puppies. Well, as I walked out of the room for 10 seconds to move my whelping kit to go into the car, I re-enter the room Ripley is in only to find her with a brand new puppy on the ground and her standing there licking it. Oh my heavens sake!!! You don't know how relieved I was and I was so so proud of Ripley and was sure to let her know. I'm only assuming it may have also been breeched and/or slowed down because the puppy prior.
After that, the last puppy came out in record time with only 30 min rest time and 10 min of pushing!!
So far my call to give calcium after each puppy and calcium once she starts pushing for the next puppy has done the trick. The calcium helps with contractions. That and making sure she gets up to potty after each puppy. Moving around can help realign puppies in the shoot.
By the end of all of this everyone was ready to pass out, lol. Ripley finally was content and resting on her side, we felt she was likely done but gave her some calcium to help her push any remaining out naturally. Hubby and I realized we had to shower before even thinking of closing our eyes. You really get covered in anything and everything. We managed to "sleep" for an hour or two only to be right back to tending to Ripley and the pups. Temp check on Ripley to make sure no fever or sign of infection, weight check on pups... they ALL gained. From the lowest one being 8.7 ounces to 12 hours later weighing 14.6! The largest pup weighed 10.6 ounces when born and every other pup including that one were 15.5 ounces at second weigh in! Ripley was killing it and so were the pups in making sure they got enough milk.
Final count ended up being 5 puppies. All black. 4 girls. 1 boy.
