Week 3 photo dump in no particular order as always (I really wish the forum would upload them in order by date!!) Any pics in the kitchen are the latest from Friday.

Also a few missing that Ill have to figure out which ones since I reached upload limit 🤣 I will post those later, wanted to get this uploaded for y'all before heading off to a family Christmas get together today! I'll try to get some videos up too cause those are always fun.

Pictures from week 3 of the Sulaco crew.

Personalities abound! Bring on play time!

During week 3 the puppies have had:
-their nails dremeled every other day
-been individually held and loved to accept being away from their littermates
-ears, mouth and paws manipulated to have them used to being handled
-exposed to random loud noises such as clapping, laughing and dropping pans to trigger their startle response recovery to aid them later in life that scary things happen and they will be more likely to recover quickly from it
-exposed to the vacuum pretty much daily, messy puppies!
-walked on a new surface, a loud crinkly plastic bag
-introduced to two new unsteady objects/surfaces, a slippery rolly tunnel and a spiky paw pod
-given their first blankets
-novel toys rotated daily
-played novel sounds for an hour a day with sounds such as airplanes, trains, a loud crowd, dogs barking, people laughing, rain storms etc.
-started eating mashed kibble formula mixture
-mom is seeing them as other dogs and starting to play with them
-learning to sit calmly to get what they want (before eating and interacting with them)

Friday night all set up in their new home. It'll grow with them as they get bigger. Too much space and they won't find the litter box.

Those little faces. You should set some of those Christmas photos aside for next years calendar since they'd be great for December.

Some videos as promised!

I had the webcam running for an hour or so for Thanksgiving and caught Ripley bringing a can of soda into the whelping box

Barrier training... Teaches the pups that they can conquer obstacles and won't be helped just because they cry.

It must be wonderful to see those little minds working things out day by day. It is amazing to me how much they are thinking about stuff even so young! Guess that is a survival mechanism but still amazing!
It really is! And there is SO much the breeder can instill on them at this age to help them be critical thinkers, able to recover from stress, and develop an emotional response to working with humans.

This week I just started taking out each puppy alone for one on one time with me with a short training session each. They learn they can be away from their littermates. Teaching them that clicker = treats then building upon that. They are just starting to learn sit = click = treats. This sit is an offered behavior by the puppy. I am not luring them into sitting. I am capturing the behavior. Only the second day of this but Newt progressed the most and was not only offering sits but she was super engaged with me with eye contact after I removed the treat each time! So by doing this they are learning how to communicate to humans in an appropriate way because their natural instinct is to jump and climb.

Then the barrier training at meal time teaches the pups to critically think for themselves and teaches them that they can conquer obstacles and won't be helped just because they cry. It takes one time but that one time is a lesson that will last them for life. It's so wonderful to see and makes my heart happy.

They are such brave little puppies!!! All the work you're doing with them is so wonderful :D can you believe their time with you is already almost half over? Or is it... Only half over
Well, they'll be here until 11 weeks so it is only a third over! and no, I can't believe it!! I've been enjoying the process with them. The cleanup and feeding is a lot of work on its own... then add on all the other things we're doing. But then watching each milestone and all their antics is quite rewarding. I hope seeing them thrive in their new homes is equally as if not more rewarding! They are staying until 11 because they'll be stacked at 8 weeks, ears done the following day, temperament tested at 9 weeks (when it is best done) and then I'm not sending them home until stitches are out, edges healed and first posts in. Should be a lot easier on their new home.

Hard to believe how people do it with a litter of 8 or more! :wideyed:
