Ripley Show Thread

🎉 I'M SO EXCITED to share the news!!! 🎉

Saturday in Madison, WI out of the Open Black class, Ripley and Derek won WB for a FIVE POINT MAJOR (she won over 36 bitches), and then BOW (over 9 additional dogs, totaling over 45 dogs!!!), under judge Ms. Jan C. Sigler at the Illini Doberman Pinscher Specialty as an Owner Handler!!!!!!

WB = Winner's bitch. All the 1st place girls from each class compete against one another to see who the judge feels meets the breed standard the closest.

BOW = Best of Winners. The Winners Dog and Winners Bitch get to go back in the breed ring and compete against one another (and potentially all the specials, which are Champions and Grand Champions) to see who earns BOW.

One more major to go until her Championship! She only needed two 3 pt majors (less girls won over for a 3 pt) but I guess Ripley wanted to win a big one! And at a specialty so we got really pretty ribbons!

Congratulations again! I am so, so happy for you guys!

I can’t believe the amount of bitches it takes for a 5 point major lol! I know you and Derek must be so proud, especially for getting that big win owner-handled!

Love how she looks so "of course I did it" in that first shot.
I know, it cracks me up so much

And Derek's shocked face when they won was priceless!
I think he was yawning. :wacky: That is the award lineup where everyone goes once the winners are announced. You have to stand in line to get your armband number recorded and collect your ribbon before leaving the ring! First in line you have your Best of Breed, then Best of Winners, then Best of Opposite Sex, Select Dog and Select Bitch (specials aka Champions and Grand Champions that basically earned second place for their gender, they receive GCH points for this ribbon) and at specialties Awards of Merits are given as a nod from the judge, no special points for those just a nice nod and sometimes a pretty ribbon. But he was stunned when she pointed at him, I'll have to upload the video.

She looks damn good for recently having a litter.
I know! She only had 5 but she still was pretty filled out. I swear her mammaries were going to burst the first few days after her labor. :woot2:

Love your “Oh my gosh! Thank you!”
My ring side neighbors were so excited for us, they'd been watching him work hard for it all weekend. She's the one that said congrats and I said thank you to. :D I couldn't believe it when the judge pointed at them. It was like a huge relief to finally have her and him be seen! I literally just messaged a long time breed judge that morning to ask her to give me her opinion on Ripley again and ask why she was being overlooked, and asked if we were crazy trying to finish her. I was reassured that she was VERY correct and that many judges get confused when they see a girl like her. They'll often pick the girl with many flaws over her, purely because of substance. They'll often pick the longer, or taller, bigger, girl and not the square one (which our breed standard says they are to be square). She reassured me she's very deserving of her CH and more. Sad that judges won't pick more correct purely because she's only slightly more refined when it took ONE generation to add substance where it could take decades to fix faults! Ripley is also not small...she's 26" at the withers. So any other girl out there that looks bigger than her is out of standard.

And I think being a mama made her better.
Oh 100% for sure! It took everything that was good about her and made her better. That was a big reason we decided to breed her before she was finished, to help give her that bit of maturity from the hormones. She was well into breeding age and we knew we wanted for her to be bred twice, knew we wanted to go to our breed National this year and knew we wanted to finish her. There was only one show we missed out on at the end of last year from her being bred vs if we bred her this heat cycle she's on right now, she would have missed out on so many shows. Also, you never know what will happen... if I lost her to a freak accident because I wanted to wait to finish her, I would have never been able to keep a daughter of hers.

Not their best picture, not their worst. He was following instruction from the photog and usually its good but her neck should be up more and rear feet a hair back so shes actually standing up on them. Judge also wasn't available and it was late.

Anyways, her win picture!
