She's super showy and yes, knows her job too well. She free stacks. She even picks up her paw when you start hand stacking, cracks me up. At this show she was even gaiting ahead of Derek and he had her on a loose lead, she was leading the way. A lot of judges like to see that. They don't want to see the dog's neck cranked up and would rather see the dog move naturally. Some will tell you to gait on a loose lead.
Simply the Best: Dog show judges aim to find perfection
Aug. 27—At the River Valley Cluster Dog Shows at the Owensboro Convention Center this weekend, the breeds take center stage. But there's always a judge inside the ring that is pivotal to the outcome. And it's not as easy as it may seem to attain that status. "The judges have to study the...
Bad dogs don't move well, lol! Bad dogs throw their elbows out and don't give the judge a good look at their gaiting. If she is smaller, but moves better, maybe she needs to show a bit more fire. Sometimes being bad draws attention, as in “She isn’t as big, but look at that drive and fire in her eye”.

I'd say most people behave, but at the end of the day...everyone is trying to win. Some are really dirty and will toss bait right as you go by... "oops" Ripley has been known to trot right up another dog's rear in the go around ....even with a head start... because they are so poke-y. Paula can't handle her with anything other than hot dogs. She gets TOO excited for anything higher and has just the right amount of edge and excited-ness on her with hot dogs (and Paula). Sometimes handing them off to someone else is just better overall.Perhaps the dog world is a bit better behaved, but maybe Derek needs to put sardines in his pocket!I must admit that I was not ashamed to say I moved a calf or a horse a bit forward or back in line, to show his best features, and maybe if that calf bumped the good calf next to me when we turned, then oh well!
