Bad dogs don't move well, lol! Bad dogs throw their elbows out and don't give the judge a good look at their gaiting. :whistle: She's super showy and yes, knows her job too well. She free stacks. She even picks up her paw when you start hand stacking, cracks me up. At this show she was even gaiting ahead of Derek and he had her on a loose lead, she was leading the way. A lot of judges like to see that. They don't want to see the dog's neck cranked up and would rather see the dog move naturally. Some will tell you to gait on a loose lead.

Its not, LOL. I'd say most people behave, but at the end of the day...everyone is trying to win. Some are really dirty and will toss bait right as you go by... "oops" Ripley has been known to trot right up another dog's rear in the go around ....even with a head start... because they are so poke-y. Paula can't handle her with anything other than hot dogs. She gets TOO excited for anything higher and has just the right amount of edge and excited-ness on her with hot dogs (and Paula). Sometimes handing them off to someone else is just better overall.

Pray tell, what's more exciting than a hot dog? LOL. Asha has such high food drive, I can use kibble unless there are big distractions. Smelly treats (Bil-Jac) can send her over the moon, a ball will get her out of control... :rolleyes:

Yeah, that would make her do back flips... Asha will watch me putting her raw franken-meal topper trays together and be pretty self contained. Then I open a package of beef liver and the level of interest hit high.

Do you buy it dried or make it? I've read about drying it in the oven on low for several hours to make treats, but never have.

Yes, just one extra premolar on her upper jaw behind the canine and it is definitely an adult tooth and not a puppy tooth. Apparently that is a very common extra tooth in all dog breeds if they have one. Doesn't effect or crowd any of her other teeth. We could have gotten it pulled but then what if the other teeth moved as a result so I didn't want to risk that. It is considered a fault but not nearly as bad as missing which is also a fault. I'd rather an extra tooth over a missing where they can have up to 4 missing before it's a DQ. 🤷‍♀️ No judge has cared that she has an extra. They rather see good occlusion and no missing.
 
I was going to ask if you can just have extra teeth pulled! Makes sense though about the possibility of them shifting and not wanting to take the risk.

That really stinks about the money but I guess that's any sport, hobby, interest, etc. We haven't been doing much of anything recently because it's just not in our budget, unfortunately.

I do remember you having mentioned before that she's so standard that the judges kind of just gloss over her because there isn't anything 'wrong' to see... whereas other dogs with more pronounced faults just get more eye time, more or less.

Yep and that's why with some breeders where you see a lot more of their kennel names with CH in front, it doesn't necessarily mean their dogs are better than the smaller hobby breeder's dogs.. they may just have way more money to campaign and finish a lot of dogs! This can be the case with some unfinished dogs being used for breeding too. Doesn't mean that dog isn't to standard or hasn't been shown and won and that they shouldn't ever be bred...sometimes the difference is money and politics. I would question a breeder's intentions if they never showed their dogs, weren't involved in the breed, don't have any CH or any titles. After being involved in the breed for a short time and around breeders, I realize there is much more to it. The gene pool is far too small to "throw away a dog" for being unfinished.

Think of it like Arabian horses. Some have gotten so extreme that they draw your eye and look super fancy. Then there is the classic Arabian that isn't as fancy and can do the job it was designed to do, but everyone else looks fancy so the classic one is the "odd man out". So you skip over it thinking there must be something wrong with that one, it doesn't look like the rest!

Personally, I've not forgotten this quote, on & off in my mind since I read it. :rofl: I don't think twice about germs, and I'm one of those people who actually like liver.... but I do.not.like.slimey.dog.slobber. And I will not put slimey slobber covered treats in my mouth, sorry. :rofl:
