Ragnar and Freyja

Should have gotten some picts....
I know.

Took Freyja to the soccer fields today. First time of me filming the game and she is expected to sit/down and behave amongst the many distractions.

Freyja was calm and cool. Not interested in much more than just to hang around. A night/day difference than with Ragnar. You really have to keep head on a swivel with him.

One person legitimately asked me if Ragnar’s color changes with the seasons. Thinking I had Ragnar with me...

Another guy said there is no way that is your male, he would be stacked up, intensely scanning everywhere.

Endless questions on her ears being posted.

Counted four jackholes walk past us swatting at their legs trying to get Freyja to break sit and go to them. One came up saying for her to sit and down.....the exact reason I teach commands in Cajun French.

It’s so funny because they just look at them like they are stuuuupid.

I do have to say that people react very much differently with Freyja than Ragnar. Freyja has that soft inviting look of a sweet Doberman whereas Ragnar just looks like he will snap at anyone’s wrong move. People move far away when Ragnar walks down the sidelines. Freyja proved that to be wrong heading back to the truck. We were walking in the parking lot and these two GS came around a car in loose leashes and she hackled up and went into defense guard mode with a roaring growl. She scared the shat out of me.

Then on the way home some idiot tried to pit maneuver me while I was doing 75 on interstate. That really scared me...truck was sideways, tires screeching, smoke coming off the tires- all I saw was the median trees coming at us. Thankfully, I was able to steer into the skid and get control. Dude was locked into my rear left quarter panel for a good ten mins. So Family, Freyja and I stayed on the side of a roaring interstate for over two hours with that mess.

So glad we are home, everyone is safe and we are not in the ICU waiting area. Be thankful folks.

Omg!! So glad you and your family are ok!!! After riding cross country with my husband in his semi for a few years, you learn just how awful and inconsiderate at driving people are. You really do have to be one step ahead of everyone.

Great experience on the field for Freyja !! Good girl!!

OMG! How scary! I'm glad everyone was okay!

For real? :spit: That's about as crazy as when some lady told me she was pleased to see I hadn't cropped Kaiser's ears, all while she was busy petting his head.

Isn't that a great feeling? :D

Wow, this is crazy  Glad everyone is ok!

Wow I'm glad we don't get as much of that around here with the aggressive driving.

I would call that a stupid statement but our horse goes from the normal black to a bay color during the seasonal change of coats. Maybe he was used to horses and how they can change color?
I'm waking up to a new format here & looks like our Wow button is gone?
That was just a manual thing I added on and I don't believe it's possible with this upgrade.

wow what a day huh? I admit I giggled a little when I read about the GSDs LOL

Gosh what was with that driver?

BTW we need pics please. More of them. Lol

I have always read how certain Dobermans just sit very weird and in uncanny positions. Never saw it with Ragnar. Tbh, he does not like to sit- most of the time he is standing.

So I never really saw it until Freyja.... she is strange. She will sit anywhere:
On your foot, knee, hand....she will even jump up with you in the chair and try to sit on your shoulder. Then she will ride up on her back feet and just fall backwards onto your head— and then not move....

Here, she sits and then back scoots all the way under Ragnar.....why??? I don’t know. Freyja does some really off the wall stuff.

Haha thats so cute. I think she just really wants to be touching something, so doesn't care how she does it!

Sorry I have been sooo busy.

Freyja is coming along well. She is a little over 8months and her ears are done. Her tips are a little flippy but Ragnar’s were like this and I let them ride. They firmed up well.

She is full of energy and learns quickly, so much wanting to please. Soft hearted and not near as hard as Ragnar, she gets her feelings hurt easily. But then again, easier to train compared to him....

8months and no signs of heat, should be coming in soon.

Been traveling a lot with Tristen and lots of bad weather down here- will try and get picts this weekend.

Glad to hear all is going well. Same here, so busy, wish I had more time to get on the forum.

What you described about Freyja's ears sounds like Mercy. We have decided the reason why Mercy's ears are not always up is because she is a little on the timid side. I can look out the window and her ears up. Bring her inside and a lot of times they are in airplane mode.Anyway we are just using breathrite's at this point. Haven't had her on a scale for a long time but she looks petite. Maybe its because Preacher is such a brute at 101 lbs. Glad to hear all is going well. Good luck with the heat thing. Just make sure the panties don't make a sore.

Not only do these two have different demeanors: Ragnar the alert sentry always looking and patrolling; Freyja the loving cuddly one that does not want to leave your side even when walking offleash.

But they are very much physically different:
Ragnar a pure bull- short, stocky, powerful build with a deep chest; Freyja long and lean who glides and prances about like a antelope in the grass.

They are coming along well, I sent Freyja to a board and train. Have to say that I am disappointed in the results, I expected ALOT more. She already knew the basics beforehand, I wanted them to move on from there. They did not..... especially with such an easy learning Doberman. Anyways..

Unfortunately, Ragnar lets Freyja run all over him. She just has too much energy and overwhelms him. I was hoping that he would set he straight really good one time but he does not. I think one reason may be that he thinks I will correct him for rash behavior. He always looks to me for approval.

The ECollar is in effect and helps when they are out and about to correct her when she becomes unrelenting with him. It also helps with the continued offleash training we are doing with long stays and recall.

Currently working on solidifying both heeling- Freyja on left, Ragnar on Right. Stop sit. Stop down. Long stay into heel. Long stay into front. This is coming along well. Having a difficult time with working both during fetch. Ragnar has it, but not quite for sure Freyja understands what is being asked. She wants to grab the ball, run and play. Will take more time and repetitive training I think.

I need to do a write up on the Dogtra. Freyja responds MUCH BETTER to the ECollar. I think a couple of reasons why.

Sounds like things are coming along well. I enjoyed seeing the pictures of both of them. I need to take some pictures of both of ours. I think Freyja might be a little larger than Mercy. Here is a picture I took of Mercy the other night.

I meant to ask what kind of a feeding schedule do you have both of them on ? Preacher eats between 1 1/2 and 1 3/4 cups twice a day, current weight 101 lbs. Mercy eats 2 cups twice a day, not sure of current weight.

I may be kinda different than the norm. I still feed 3x day for a couple of reasons.
1. The wife and girls really enjoy feeding them at noon when I am not home- go figure on that.
2. I have read multiple times that three smaller meals may decrease the chances of bloat vs two larger meals. Though I do not allow running and play, I do not crate them after feeding. They do act stupid time to time.
3. Ragnar fricking eats EVERYTHING when he gets hungry. Grass, sticks, socks, rocks, dirt, etc....I have found this tends to decrease with the three smaller meals vs two larger meals a day.

This month, I have moved to feeding both of them Fromm adult Gold. I say that but PetFlow sent me a bag of Fromm Salmon Flavored so I just mixed it in with a bag of the Adult Gold. Prob messed up with this, that Salmon stinks.....and they fricking love it. Will be interesting when we go back to straight Adult Gold.

I feed Ragnar a little over 1/2cup morn and lunch and a full cup for dinner. I do the larger portion at dinner because he was having hunger pukes early in the morn with the 1/2cup. Moved dinner to full cup and morn hunger pukes have stopped. I also think that these portions are prob right on- anymore than this and I notice he gets that fat fold around his neck. Funny because when I see this happen, I ask and find out that somebody is feeding him a full cup in morn or lunch instead of 1/2cup. I also find that I do not have to feed as much Fromm as the other brands I have fed in the past. Fromm may be more expensive but IMHO, I think it is by far the best dry kibble Ragnar has had- and I’ve prob went through 6-7 different brands.

Freyja came back from board/train very thin...something else that really upset me. So I will continue with 3cups 3x a day until she fattens up. I usually put a egg and shell in her evening meal.

At some angles, it really looks like Freyja has caught Ragnar in size but don’t think she has his density. Hopefully I will remember, I will weigh both of them when I get home and post their current weights.

Lol.....I will text Payt and wife to see if they will weigh them now. They would have to hold them and step onto the scale. Freyja may allow them to do this but Ragnar is a bull to them.

Imho Freya looks beautiful, they both do, maybe thin-ish looking in the third pic from the bottom, but I kinda like lean.
