I am getting pretty excited…tomorrow we go to Bush, Louisiana to do FASTCAT. My girls are all busy so my brother will drive down and help me. They weather will be a clear, cool 50dgs.
This last weekend, we kinda did some practice. I bought 400ft of clothesline, and bolted a pulley on my back fence. Jerry-rigged a spool onto my Dewalt drill. Put the 400ft on the spool and ran it through the pulley at the back of the yard.
To my left was Payton and Freyja. Ten feet in front of them was a white rag attached to end of the clothesline running to end of yard, through pulley and then back to my Dewalt drill. I hit the Dewalt drill button, the white rag takes off and the Freyja takes off after the white rag.
It worked perfectly for Freyja. Ragnar was more interested in what I was doing with the drill in my hands but he got it, kinda, after a couple of tries. Freyja was absolutely balls out. The drill was not fast enough to pull the rag through the yard.
It starts at 0930, we will be there at 0900 to walk around and smell the new smells. No given running order, just show up and run so we should have plenty of time to calm down and not be stupid.
New Orleans Dog Sporting club and Black Knights Coursing have been awesome. They have been very welcoming and answered all my questions. They know it will be our first time and will be looking out for us if we need any assistance. I laugh and wonder if some of that is because they know two Dobermans are coming?? Just a laugh, I am sure they have experienced Dobermans there.
Running Ragnar twice and Freyja twice Saturday and the same on Sunday.
I hope I can get in to do some fun runs before we actually run the official timed runs. We will see….if not, I am just happy to be going with the Dobermans.

It IS a brilliant idea, let us know if you improve on it.
