Ragnar and Freyja

Just sent this to C908 but wanted to add it here to update Ragnar’s/Freyja’s story:

Freyja is absolutely wonderful...what a joy. Everything that I asked and hoped for to be honest. Ragnar can play with her all day long and be happy. Right now he can out run her and dodge her with his quickness but not for long, she gains a step on his ass everyday. Kinda like putting a young soccer player in with the pro’s, he drives her to be better.

So Ragnar’s/Freyja’s relationship is wonderful but I can tell he gets his feelings hurt when I have him stay inside and take her out to potty or to train. His head droops, eyes drop to the ground and he sulks. When I do give him his 1:1 time, he seems to absorb it deeper, he spends a lot more time physically closer to me more. He is so much more attentive and willing to please.

Freyja seeks me out with her quirky funniness of a puppy and damn she is a DoberShark. I really have to get video of her going after Ragnar chomping her mouth like an alligator. I can see her bond with Ragnar is really tight. She adores him and always wants to be next to him. I hope the training that I start with her next week will change her mentality on who I am and what I bring. I have been so busy with work and evening soccer....I have taken off next week and will try to solidify my role with her in the hierarchy of things.

I thought Ragnar was something but she is a feisty little shit, damn she is brave and does not back down. Prob because she knows Ragnar is there. She goes beserk on moonlight shadows on our wooden picket fence. Ragnar just looks at her like “what are you doing??”

I was wondering about that. Their sulking is so obvious and when they are not the center of the universe they let you know

That's so true when there are two of them. I remember a month or so ago I accidently put the leash on Albert and let Phoebe loose when I was taking them out. I was trying to figure out why she was healing so well until I looked down to see a very proud Albert on the leash and the little turd running across the yard like a little maniac. :D Thankfully she's stuck to him like glue so she came right back.

I did not do this with Ragnar but I started clicker training today with Freyja. She learns quickly.

She eats everything!

She's growing like a weed! How old is she now and what does she weigh? Looks like you caught back up on posting again ;)

Oct 17 she was 10weeks and 16lbs. She is 13weeks now and 24lbs. She gained 8lbs in three weeks.

I feed her 1cup 3xday. I prob could feed her a little more considering how hard she runs with Ragnar, she prob burns that pretty fast. She doesn’t run like a goofy pup now.

The posting has gone extremely well. She is most definitely not as bad as what Ragnar was. (In post), You know, I am still wondering about her left ear, it is still kinda weak and wavers when she gets tired. The right ear is straight and true. I think I am gonna keep the bridge off and see how it goes.

The pink Coban is just for looks by the way.

Her colors are so rich and her chest markings are beautiful! I didn't realize how little hair Rubie actually has till all these new puppy pictures

Hahaha.....I was looking over the picts again and you can see my “hurricane” fence all patched up. My neighbor told me he would be more than willing to go in half for a new fence but this is a personal battle now. I have patched that thing up through 5 hurricanes now- getting hard to fix though, there are three 4x4’s that have been broken in half. Hahaha.

Lovely photos!!! Thanks for the updates, it'll be fun to hear how you do with your time off & training. I always used the word yes instead of a clicker, but I recently got a clicker for a project and it's amazing how sharp she is to that sound. I just couldn't handle one more thing in my hands with Asha on the other end of a leash. LOL.

Wow she's growing so fast and they look so sweet together!

I personally wouldn't do the brace at this point or they could start pulling in and you want her to use those muscles.

Everythings going so well! It never ceases to amaze me how soon they lose their little puppy looks and gain their adult selves. In days it seems! Already smart as a tack and I guess you can now answer an important question - is it easier to train your second Dobe? I am hoping that many of the anxieties of the first time around don't arise with the second!

@jazzies mum
Freyja is sooo much easier than Ragnar. Hate to say it but she listens more intently and is willing to please. Ragnar was just fricking wild. But then at same time, I don’t have to put up with unspent puppy energy at all....they run and play so much that they both take lots of naps and sleep through the night. And it’s amazing on how she looks at him to see if it’s the correct thing to do. For example, both are in a sit- place bowl of food at their feet and have them in a hold. Tonight I tried freeing Freyja first to eat while telling Ragnar to wait. It was hilarious, I told her free, she looked at me, looked at the food, looked at Ragnar then back at me. I said free again and she looked at Ragnar pissed off like, cmon dude let’s eat. She would not eat until I freed Ragnar....LOL. It was pretty funny.

And also, you or Kaiser made the point that a 2nd Doberman should be significantly easier from the trials and tribulations of the first- very much a true statement.

I am not as hell bent on “training her in”, we are doing more of training in play and just letting it happen, she sees Ragnar do it first.

Teaching her sit, stay, heel, up in truck, off, hold. Teaching commands in Cajun French as well as trying hand signals too.

First time at soccer fields and she handled walking on the leash well and taking in all the visual and auditory stim. She was very alert and watched everyone/everything.

This is her mimicking Ragnar placing on the mat awaiting to be fed. What took Ragnar days to figure out took Freyja two attempts to get.

I love it! That last pic with both waiting for release to eat, and there's a cat in the equation too! :)

:spit: and there's something about her expression and those pink antenna in the pic of her on the chair that just so reminded me of "My Favourite Martian". I'm probably, (definitely), showing my age here.

It pleases me that a second Dobe seems a lot easier than the first but I'm not surprised.

@Ddski15 love your stories and photos! Are you in agreement that genetics make a difference in personality? I look at that photo of Freyja at the soccer field and can't begin to imagine that with the likes of Asha at that age. Well, I could have gotten her in a chair, but it just wouldn't happen for more than 5 seconds or with that calm demeanor.

@jazzies mum when I was a kid My Favorite Martian was one of my favorite shows, so I'll show my age along with you. Oh, and PS I saw on a working dog fb page there's a litter of Dobes just whelped in New South Wales, if you're getting puppy fever. Working Bred
