Pepper 🌶️

Well I feel like an idiot! Pepper is in heat which I realized today. I saw blood specks on my floor and couldn’t figure it out… well a little check and yup it’s Pepper. She did not swell in any areas and besides he recent GI upset nothing unusual. I knew she’d be due soon, but was thinking January. It’s been almost 5 months since her last heat.

Makes me wonder if the GI issues are related as she had the same last time, but who will ever know ?! 🤷‍♀️

Usually it's closer to 6 months, but they do vary.

I really don't think the GI issues are related to heat simply because it's basically been going on all her life, starting before her ovaries were active.
Bleeding no swelling isnt considered silent is it?

She could just be spotting, then the swelling will show up pretty quick...I don't think they bleed or show any indications in a silent heat? Perhaps someone else can chime in....I am also wondering if Pepper being on many different meds brought her cycle on early?

I believe this is the definition of silent heat, but I'm no expert either. So any blood drops = regular heat.

And yes, the most swelling is when they are in the later half of the cycle, standing heat, accepting males, so she's likely to "look" like in heat in another week or two.
Interesting thank you.

Last time she got really swollen and then bled days later, so I guess this is a normal cycle this time. Thank you all!

One of my dog club friends with a GSD said her dog had a split heat early this year. She had bleeding for a while and the swelling and other symptoms came a couple months later. She was planning to breed her that cycle but she couldn't do it with the split heat. I had never heard of it before but she's pretty experienced.

Asha did that one time... I didn't think about that. She had no swelling or indications that she was coming into heat, but had blood drops for about a week, then stopped, then had a more normal looking heat a couple of weeks later, but it ended up being shorter than normal too. I'd have to look back at my notes for exact days in & out & back in again.

Thank you for asking!
Since her switch to ground turkey and pumpkin she’s had normal bms and not gassy at all. Not many bms, but at least 1 normal a day. Yesterday, I introduced a small amount of her new kibble and so far so good.
I also ordered some Dogzymes complete as she was using the probiotic max before, but figured she needed an upgrade.

Yes always on poop patrol! Lol

Fingers crossed this is it!

We started the new kibble and 6 ounces of cooked ground lean turkey on 12/16, so far her stools have been smaller and less frequent. She did have loose stool then the runs on Christmas, but I did catch her with a silica packet 🤦‍♀️ as my boys were ripping things open… then she was fine and next day a tiny loose stool only 1 stool. Of course it threw me into a panic because if it’s semi loose then it’s the full runs after that.
Now I do 3 cups of kibble now with 6 ounces of cooked meat now using 90/10 ground beef, Dogzymes complete, pumpkin, and a small amount of fruit.
I did try no lunch - 2nd meal for a few days, but she harassed me like crazy and then acts SO hungry for breakfast or dinner. I wondered too if it also upsets her stomach to eat so far apart and now we are back to 3 meals day. So far so good and I pray that she keeps doing well. I would assume if the new kibble was not agreeing with her, she’d have issues asap?
I worry if she has a bigger issue, but again, if she’s doing well for the majority, then I don’t know if it’s a bigger issue.
Weight, energy, eating, behavior, sleep, all the same.

Side note:
She did lift her leg to pee on a tree yesterday that was comical, heat for sure , but still I said “ girl what are you doing?”

They all have their ups and downs so i doubt it's a bigger issue. Some of our earlier Dobermans did have sensitive stomachs as pups but who knows why, aside from the fact that younger dogs/pups are more sensitive.

Thank you @JanS needed to hear that ❤️

🤭 Kali does that! I posted a picture a while back. If not a tree, she's doing the 3-legged stance on a high piece of grass, etc. Pretty comical.

Fingers crossed for Pepper and her new diet!!
