Pepper šŸŒ¶ļø

Yes, she’s had the grey slim mucous 2 x this week. What’s that about?
Grey slimy mucous (sometimes clear gelatinous).

In some instances, the body will identify foreign harmful substances in the colon and will encapsulate it with a mucous plug. It does this so it doesn’t absorb and moves it out of the body in a hurried fashion.

For instance, I know for fact I saw Ragnar eat something unknown out next to our mail box. I shook my head and thought ā€œwhy God??ā€ and truthfully prayed and hoped for the best. Late that night, he starts shatting all over the house. No way he was keeping it in. That asshat kept me awake the rest of the night going in and out of the house secondary to diarrhea:
side note- love and miss you Rag.

The next day he is still having uncontrollable diarrhea. So I think…nothing has changed, same schedule, same food, same water, same training- what changed? Then it hits me to go look at what he got after out near the mailbox. Went out there and found the most nastiest rank pieces of shat you would have ever seen. I don’t know if it was coon, possum or goose shat but it was just horrendous.

I remember during daily poop patrol, he was passing some gelatinous jelly like globs and it scared me- never seen anything like it. So I go, find it and cut it open with a knife. Yup, it was the same shat that was out near the mail box. His body recognized it as a toxic bad substance and encased it with this mucosal gob as a protective reaction.

Other instances:
If he had loose stools and I didn’t see why it happened, I would think he figured out a way into the cat litter bin. I modified the access to that thing prob 5x. I remember one time I cut open a mucous gob and found pieces of mushrooms from the backyard or soccer fields.

In the early years of different kibble brand experimentation, both of mine had loose stools from kibble that was too rich or had too many calories, or sometimes family would give unsanctioned table food, the stool did not have mucous gobs.

Many things can cause this including diet, IBS, stress, etc…but Rag was a goat. Once I isolated him and settled his system down, his stool went from loose to cow patty to firm. Took about 5-7 days of lock down.

I know you have been dealing with this for a long time and have tried many things. I’m just giving examples of what it was for me.

Thinking of you and your troubles…hope you find a solution.

I had been wondering why you were asking, because I've seen it a time or 2 in Toby's poops. Now I know what was probably going on. It wasn't related to otherwise loose stools for him, but he has an iron gut, always has. The fall of dogkind here is less wildlife related and more related to my neighbors dumping food waste out on the ground. They don't mind my dogs getting into it in their yard, but, they also don't recognize that it could hurt my dogs. It's frustrating, but, ultimately they are my dogs and should mind me, instead of caving to temptations in the neighbors yard. Want to point out though, they are in every other way, simply fantastic neighbors.

As of last night I switched Pepper to ground 93/7 turkey and a little pumpkin. She finally went to have a bm and it was a normal solid poop. Thank goodness. I am returning the PPP HA veg and after really wracking my brain, I couldn’t feed it to her any longer. The ingredients first of all… I do feel like I can’t find a reasonable vet, although, this vet, I think, has good intentions. I did not do the bloodwork today as I wanted to wait and see what she would produce bm wise. She has 1 dose of anti diarrheal and 1 dose of panacur, finish them tomorrow.

I am hopeful she is on the mend and I will continue with her bland diet until her new kibble arrives. I went with holistic select, her breeder uses it and swears by it. We had a long talk this week, which was very helpful and reassuring. She suggested I deworm Pepper and do her food change.

But anywho, I’m feeling relieved that Pepper seems much better. Like her bms with that PPP HA were awful!

I did find many reviews from folks on PPP SSS and HA- stating how their dogs were sick with vomiting and diarrhea. Recent reviews too…

I'm glad you switched her and that things are coming around! I just didn't like that last diet they had her on.

Many vets recommend lousy food because they get a kick-back on it, even though they won't tell you that. It doesn't necessarily mean they're not a good vet though.

Thank you @JanS

I didn’t either and I was desperate to fix her. Lesson learned happy I got the initial bloodwork though. She had a lot going on with the initial stools, meds, and food change, too much!

I was wondering if they got a kickback because they all recommend it. I hope she takes well to her new kibble and belly issues are a thing of the past.

Let us know how it goes. I think all of us are on the edge of our seats waiting for Pepper to find her perfect food and create perfect poops!
Thank you @Ravenbird

She did vomit yellow bile early this am and idk why. No food in it.

Hoping busy due to meds and less food on bland diet.

Somewhere I heard that sometimes - usually puppies - can vomit when especially hungry or on a very light diet. Hunger pukes they called it. I have no idea if it's a thing, but at least that would mean it's not because of the food you gave her yesterday!
Yes, I read that too and thank you for saying it also. It was 11 hours or so since she ate. Meds done today. Hoping she’s on her way to feeling and pooping better!

That IS a thing! At least I know it is with people because my mom had that in her later years. I mean like a year or so before she died. She would tell us she's nauseated and almost threw up and I finally asked, did you eat? And she did not. But of course feeling nauseated, she didn't want to eat! So it's a vicious circle. I had to convince her that she had to try something. Or don't wait so long to eat.

That was very encouraging to read this morning! My goodness was it just the turkey that did it? And that quickly? Or maybe the pumpkin? Have you ever tried the Pumpkin before? Regardless it's a good sign! Poor Pepper has been on the roller coaster. But you are a great mother trying to figure this all out! And we are all on the sidelines cheering! šŸ˜† :woot:

Thank you @MyBuddy

She’s been doing pumpkin with that nasty HA Veg food.

I am assuming all the awful ingredients in that food didn’t help what she had going on plus the meds she’s on.

Hoping that we have a good days doing this bland diet and can transition into kibble without issues. Chewy needs to get to shipping it lol
