Wednesday Millie would huff occasionally, similar sound they make when they drink water too fast and breath in a little.
Only she wasn’t drinking when she was doing it.

Wednesday night or actually the early AM her huff turned into full on deep lung coughing noise, gagging like she is trying to cough something up.
Needless to say the wife and I were both up by 3:30am which isn’t too big of a deal for me as I can take a nap later, lol. She was to start a 12 hour shift at 6

We started administering the magic syrup...

Honey!

This particular honey is local Black Sage honey.
A table spoon every 2 -3 hours.
There are some serious antibiotic power in honey and it soothes/coats the throat.

We also started some basic saline breathing treatments.
We have a Pulmo-Aid compressor here and nebs.

By later Thursday it had toned down the coughing considerably.
Thursday night rather than the once every 20 minutes cough it was only a few times throughout the night.
Friday only an occasional light huff.
Saturday I’ve heard no huffing or cough and she is back to normal operational status.

Was debating Thursday to just take her to the vet, but figured we would try less aggressive treatment before resorting to antibiotics or other pharma solutions and it worked.

If your dog develops the cough use your better judgement, not the advise of a painter on the Internet.

Impressive Gel!
Glad y’all were able to figure that out.

I wonder where she got that from. Usually it comes from another animal??

With the cough I would worry with this breed. Have you considered having an echo and holter done?
Oh that has crossed the mind.
As you know it’s a road we have traveled.

And if I’d not seen any improvement by mid day Thursday she would have been in there.

She has been around my moms dog several times this past few weeks, taking her over to get in some pool time.
(Well. My wife was getting pool time, Millie was along for the experience)
My moms little terrier gets daily walks around their neighborhood and visits several other little dogs in the area.
She had a little huff going a month ago and is the likely source. It never turned into full on cough.

The pool time..
Which, is going slower at convincing Millie water is fun vs our last female.😂 (see my avatar)
She is willing to go to the second step which is almost chest deep. Same pool.

How scary but I'm glad she's feeling better now.

I hope that’s all it is & that you’ve now got it sorted. My last Dobe at 6 years old started coughing, we thought it was “just a cough“ & treated it with honey & it stopped. Six weeks later the coughing started again, but only occasionally.
3 days later she went from being seemingly heathy & “normal” in the morning to clearly very unwell in the afternoon. An emergency trip to the vet confirmed DCM & she had to be PTS.
