Question on fast cat, if there are two events per day, 2 runs per event...do you guys only sign up for one event for the day? I'm not going to but was wondering, can you sign up for both?

Also...if the premium lists the fee as "per run fee/dog entry $22", and you only do one event for the day (which consists 2 runs) is that $44 or $22 for the day? Its a little confusing!

You run once per event. So on a premium, it will look like this-ish:

Which of course means it's $20-$25/run(event). So we usually do two events in one day (two runs total). What they've been doing, which is really nice, is they will run a group of 30 dogs back to back. So this coming weekend, we are in the group of 30 dogs that runs from 8:30-9:30, and then that same group of 30 dogs runs from 9:30-10:30, and then we get to pack up and leave. Then the next group of 30 dogs will run from 10:30-11:30, run again from 11:30-12:30, and then pack up and leave! etc. BUT you can sign up for just one run, as well. You certainly do not need to do both events scheduled for one day.

On the AKC Website, the above FCAT 1 and FCAT 2 for Saturday actually appear as two different 'events' because they each have an event number:

This is why we usually only ever do one day at any trial... especially when you get TWO dogs going :rofl: and why we're on the slow track to all things title related hahaha!

We are running both events this weekend so will do two runs at $20 each, $40 total.
 
Okay that makes sense, THANK you! For some reason I thought there were two runs per event, maybe I'm thinking like dock diving you get two jumps per pay. This meet is sort of near and I didn't want to over run her or under run if you know what I mean but also didn't want to fully drain my pockets at the same time lol. So $44 for the day, sign up for both events get two runs total. I think the AM/PM thing super confused me on the entry form. I knew about the 30 dog break between runs but thought if I signed up for both AM and PM events we would be there all day. 😅

Ah, yes, I can see where that premium is pretty confusing. So they have this little note on page 3:

I always get my premiums in as close to trial opening as possible to try and get an early time. No clue if they schedule them as they receive them, if it's a lottery, if it's throwing darts at entries but typically, we've been lucky to get in and out first thing.

It also says "inspection starts at 7:30 AM." Unless you are the first dog on the line at 8am (for this trial), there is really no need to be there at 7:30, IMO. They inspect all day, throughout the day. Inspection is a tissue wipe for the ladies and a trot for the inspectors to make sure your dog is sound. They will do that before each run. I've also been told that as long as you show up within your group time, they will run you. Even if you are dog #1 and you don't get there until 45 mins after they start, they'll let you run.

I think you should do it :thumbsup:

I think @LifeofRubie answered your questions, but the two I attended (one before I got Asha) were run by different clubs and organized completely differently, so as far as check in time & the a.m./p.m. runs - those might change from trial to trail, especially if it's a different club. @Rits is the big 1st birthday coming up soon?

It really is great fun. Hope Asha chases the lure next time instead of just trying to run to me! We've got one coming up in July! Makes for better photos, for sure. :rofl: Rubies photos are awesome!!!

So there is definitely a whirring sound associated with the lure because of the cable. I think THAT is what gets Rubie fired up now that she knows the game. If we hear a remote controlled car while we're out and about, she gets SUPER worked up.

I think someone here used a flirt pole with a plastic bag in order to get their dog worked up for CAT courses???

@Ravenbird I think the groups of 30 are a Covid thing but definitely a change I really like! I had not run FCAT before Covid hit so that's all I've seen!

Agree, but Asha is insane over a flirt pole at home & I did add a plastic bag on mine before her event. I think she was just overwhelmed with the insanity of it all. It was her first ever competitive event and unlike dog training or nose work or other things she's done, the dogs barking & some screeching in anticipation of running the bunny pretty much blew her mind. She kept looking around for something for these dogs to be having angst over & she saw nothing and while waiting our turn was getting pretty clingy and what I call hugging. She jumps up and wraps her legs around my waist, holding tight. And then I just left her in J's hands and disappeared. They didn't let us run down the course in view, we had to exit a gate and go down the outside of the fence. So that first release she just ran is circles in front of where she'd seen me leave & she could hear me calling but had no idea where to go. The second run was much better as she ran to the end where she knew I'd be, but still not looking at the lure. It was a big case of insecurity, but now that we've done it once + have a few more out-of-town events under our belt I'm betting it will go better. Also the next one I'm hoping I can go down the lane to the other end.

Well, and most places I've been so far do not have a lot of parking. If everyone had to be there all day (assuming they run 120 dogs per trial so 240 runs/day), that's, what?, 60-120 cars you need to have space for! I want to get in, get my scores, get out, and be home in time for lunch.

This also doesn't seem to be a game in which they need random people to volunteer. At Agility trials, I'll help set bars. At Barn Hunt, I'll rat wrangle. But at FCAT, I've never heard them looking for volunteers to release, score, gate keep, etc., so no real reason to stick around (in my experience).

I'll bet she will. Rubie actually wanted a mouthful of the bag at our last trial! Gave it a little shake just to make sure, too :rofl:

Hopefully they'll let you go down the course. If the releaser asks for the worker to give the bag a little shake to get the dogs attention, they usually seem to comply, too!
 
Another FCAT trial today! Rubie ran her fastest ever at just over 25mph for her first run! Moo squeaked over 23mph. Their second runs were a little slower but it was hot and the trial was not running smoothly so a lot of extra waiting around in the sun.

At least their ribbons were beautiful!

I really wanted to go watch some other events (they were doing EVERYTHING imaginable there!) but because we were so behind, we decided to just high tail it out of their. I wanted to watch some dock diving!
