Doberman puppy owners - track your weight gain here

Bella
5/05 9.3kg
24/05 10.2kg
02/06 11.3kg
09/06 12.6kg
24/06/18 14.1kg/31lbs (16 wks)

Does this weight seem ok? She is quite leggy but last thing I want is I've been under feeding her.
Currently feeding Eden 270g but will now increase it to 300grams

According to their website After the next week (16wks) I need to reduce the amount by nearly 100g. IMG_20180624_162310157.webp pup-feeding-guide-new.webp

Website is just a guide, you should always go by the dogs body. She looks good there so keep feeding that amount. If she starts getting thick or starts showing spine/hips, then you should adjust the food.

We were discussing this in another thread and it would be interesting if everyone checked into this thread to post their puppies weight and age. Of course all dogs vary, but I thought it would be a good way to keep track your your own pups weight and see how they compare with other pups their age.

I scanned my notes (scribbles?) of Boris and Della's puppy weight and it's interesting how small Boris was compared to Della at the same ages, but he really started gaining at the 5 - 6 month mark, and I don't think Della is going to have spurts like that.
As you can see, she weighs over 10# more than Boris did at this age.

Anyway, here's what I have to date and I hope the rest of you check in regularly to post your pups progress as well.

Zeus is 6 months old and already weighs 68lbs!!! He is European, so he's gonna be bigger than his half sister, our breeder thinks he will be about 125!! I'd say he has a good start!

Zeus is our 6 month old, (on the left) he weighs 86 lbs last week. Our breeder thinks he's going to be about 125! Puppy training is going OK, I just wish we could get him to realize how heavy he is!

Wait! Is it 68 or 86? If it's 68 that might be okay because he may just finished a growth spurt. If it's 86, you might want to take a close look at him. That's right at the standard and he's only 6 months old.
Where is he being weighed? Could be a problem with the scales not being calibrated. However in your avatar I'm not really seeing a tuck up. Meaning he is overweight. Do you have any other pics? maybe straight on at his level and from above showing his waist from the top?

He now weighs only 2.5kg less than his 4 year old Aunty! Photo of both below (Charlie's on the right). He's going to be a very big boy apparently. Or so everyone who sees him keeps telling me haha.

Nutz's Grumble in SA
9 weeks 9 Kg = 20 Lbs
10 Weeks 9.5Kg = 20.94 Lbs...

That's a relief... From what I read she is bang on track. I had concerns abou the nutrition given after weening / before I got her..

Not too bothered about height, Genetics will sort that out...

Hi Charlie...
Mind if I copy past & keep on my records as a guide / comparison ?

San Dee, be careful about letting your pup get "over weight" at a early stage!
I have owned Euro breed dogs since 1967 and they have changed dramatically in the past 25 years.
First make sure the pups nails are trimmed back weekly! You do not want splayed toes (paws) because the pasterns will lay back especially from being heavy! Limit or eliminate jumping until the pup is at least 16 months old!
I also would keep him lean until he gets done with his growth spurts!
Bigger is never better when it comes to growing pup, especially when their backgrounds have produced "extra" size.

Good luck and a side pic and an over head pic would be best when evaluating size.

Both are pretty thick in their flanks and both need their nails cut way back!
The dogs from the mid sixties were similar to the American Dobermann in height and weight and were German breed dogs. (27-28 to the withers and 80-90lbs)
Beginning in the 1990's the breed branched out to become Euro Breeds and unfortunately many greeder kennels were hatched in Italy and Serbia and Russia. They started out being respectable but the all mighty dollar creep ed in.

I would say both of your dogs are a bit to heavy especially for the hot months. The pup is already back on his pasterns so get those nails cut and dremmeled back. Do a little at a time to get him trained to accept it. (some treats will ease his caution)
Are they being protection trained? I see PP collars on them. I would get that ear taped up right away and posted he still has a shot at
getting it up.

Train train train........or a Dobermann will be a pain in the butt!

Thanks for the info on the nails & feet... happy to say grumbles's nails are very short....

But I suspect for all the wrong reasons...
Got the suspicion that she was kept on paving / cement up to me...

Won't let her do any jumping for a long time.... Worst she does is slide off the bed like melting chockolate....
