That's what I was thinking too since they were almost identical before and appear to have about the same body condition now too.Has to be. Ripley was 50.2lbs two weeks ago.

The scale at the vet must need to be recalibrated because that doesn’t sound right.
I edited my above post since our home scale says 51.4 and that sounds much more accurate.Has to be. Ripley was 50.2lbs two weeks ago.
I recognize that look! I too thought it was a stage, but our breeder got annoyed seeing him so thin so she fed him pasta to fatten him up! Turns out kibble was a bit of problem for him, so we switched to raw. As a raw fed dog, I have found it's easier to maintain his weight than to put it on. One time he had diarrhea and he lost weight, it took at least 2 weeks of extra food to get him in good condition again. We also adjust his food based on his activity levels each day. If we aren't doing much with him, he gets less to eat. If he's had lots of off leash running, he gets extra plus some more snacks during the day.Does anyone know how long before I should see a difference in his weight, so that I can know if I found the sweet spot or if I need to increase again?
Yeah, the one time he got sick and lost weight, it took a good 2-3 weeks to come back.I recognize that look! I'm glad you found this thread. It's good to see that Albert was 8.1 lbs. at 7 weeks. He turned out to be a big boy.My dobie is 7 weeks old and he's 7.5 pounds. He's genetically strong ans his father weights 90 pounds. Do you think my dobie will also grow fairly? As of now i find him underweight.
Glad to know that! So it's possible to gain fair amount of weight even if he's underweight in early age. Of course provided right nutrition and physical activity.I'm glad you found this thread. It's good to see that Albert was 8.1 lbs. at 7 weeks. He turned out to be a big boy.
Yes, I do think it is possible to gain a fair amount of weight even if he's underweight at an early age! I remember talking with my most recent breeder about size, and they told me that they cannot predict the size of the adults based on the size of the pups.Glad to know that! How old is Albert now and his current weight? Could you please share his picture? Thanks!

You've all made me feel much better, thanks! I pray he'll grow as big as his parentsYes, I do think it is possible to gain a fair amount of weight even if he's underweight at an early age! Albert isn't mine. He belongs to @JanS . I bet she'll share a pic when she gets a chance.![]()
You will be amazed with how they grow. Some weeks they look lanky and skinny, then the next week they look puppy chubby. My dobie is 7 weeks old and he's 7.5 pounds. My current boy, Oji, was similar in size to his littermates. As a mature adult, he is 28" or maybe 28 1/2" and weighs only 70 lbs. I really did not want a Dobe that was this unusually lightweight. I wish I at least could enjoy him being a very fast runner, but I think he is slowed down by his large front paws. Many many average looking mixed breeds are faster than him. You've all made me feel much better, thanks! I pray he'll grow as big as his parents
Albert is 9 years now and right around 90#. As stated, they go through lanky stages and chunky stages and right now your pup has been competing with litter mates for food so once he's on his own with you he'll easily put it on.How old is Albert now and his current weight? Could you please share his picture?

Sometimes competing for milk, especially if it's a large litter, they can be smaller. Or the dam may not be producing enough milk so the breeder needs to hand feed them which is hard considering how much and often they nurse! Ripley's litter had the second issue so everyone looked tiny up until the last week or so before going home when they were on actual food. They plumped up fast!Wow crazy. My boy was 14lbs at eight weeks. I didn’t know Albert was 8lbs. Guess the variance is more than I thought. Now it really doesn’t seem that bad. I was envisioning a skinny puppy!

Legend is solid and most certainly not overweight but i was not expecting 40+ lbs.
Doc was shocked because he doesn’t look that heavy, (he is an armful though) and he took him to every scale in the hospital with only one scale having him at 45lbs. Decided that scale needs to be recalibrated. Lol
