UPDATE:
Belmont is now....

CH Wilken’s Place Mai Bet v Kani CGC TKN CA WAC

He is my first homebred Champion out of my first litter.

Belmont finished his AKC Championship under esteemed judge Carmen Battaglia at 20 months of age with four 4 pt majors and two singles. He is also now major pointed towards his Grand Championship by taking Select Dog for a 5 point major his first weekend out as a Special. This win was accomplished a week after he finished his Championship

Belmont will continue to show as a Special to gain his GCH. If he does well we will continue to keep him out to gain the levels within the GCH as well. He has a WAE and a Lure coursing trial this spring and is also sitting for his CGCA and BN. He is currently enrolled in a Competition Rally class. We are hoping to get his RA to earn a ROM. We are also working towards his CD and dabbling in Nosework.

A few fun ring photos and his win pics. He doesn’t take the best win photos and is much better in person. He is handled exclusively by Kaylee Cloud and her sister Erin Criqui.

I for one was surprised at how beautiful he is in person. I already knew he was beautiful, but in person WOW!

I can't say much about Kaylee because I didn't see her handle Belmont, but Erin is a perfect choice for him.
She's so relaxed and Belly Boy responds so well to her calmness.
It was also pretty special to see how Belmont loved Erin's son. Whenever her son got close to him, Belmont would almost melt.

Thanks so much! I am beyond proud of him! He has tremendous focus and high workability and excels at all I throw him at. Super smart, super cool boy. My “do it all kinda dog” Looking forward to his future :)

I have his littermate Aoife too. Kept her back as a conformation/ working prospect and her workability and brain are equal to Belmont’s. The third puppy in the litter, Llewyn, just finished his CH and is also specialing for his GCH. It was a good litter. I’m pretty lucky!

Thank you Genny for your supprt and saying such nice things about him. Love that boy!! Both Erin and Kaylee are fabulous girls and phenomenal handlers. They both make Bells shine. He loves them both, but he’s like putty in Kaylee’s hands. Lol. Makes my heart feel good that he loves his handlers so much! Bells LOVES Erin’s son and Kaylee’s daughter. They are inseparable when he stays with them. Kaylee has 7 week old twins Bells loves too. He wants to clean their faces too much, so his contact with them is limited. Lol.

For those not in the loop, Belmont showed at Purina Farms a few months back and as it’s close to Genny she was able to go watch Belmont show. It was nice for me to have someone there as I was stuck at home that weekend.

Any doubt Bells loves his dog show family? Pics speak 1K words

Belmont and Will. Belmont happy to show for Kaylee.

He was posted until he was 8-9 months. He has a 6” show crop with thick ear leather, so I was very lucky he wasn’t posted longer. His two littermates were both posted longer. One of my girls was posted for 22 months. Long show crop with equally thick leather.

Two weekend ago in Lincoln, NE Belmont took back to back Best Of Breed. He didn’t take any group placements, but was pulled for consideration both days. So very proud of Belmont and his handler Erin. Whatta team.

To my untrained eye... he looks perfect! Would you be able to explain why this amazing specimen wouldn't win everything all the time? What would a judge see that they would pick another dog over him? Always eager for an education!

Wow, thank you SO much! Belmont is very balanced and square, very elegant showy and flashy. He exudes breed type. He is just slow to mature in body, which is what costs him in the ring. He still looks puppy like compared to other Champions. He finished his CH quickly and at a young age which doesn’t help. Judges consistently tell me that they wanted to put him up for breed, but went with a more mature looking dog. I don’t mind that he is slow to mature. I’d rather have a slow maturing dog than one that matures too quickly and gets coarse looking.

Can you expand on this a little more?

Comparing Belmont’s show physique now to a seasoned champ.... will maturity bring rounded broader shoulders? A deeper chest? More of a shapely, muscular look? What does a mature looking Doberman have that Belmont does not have?

Of course! He will continue to broaden in the chest (width and depth) and fill out in body. He will muscle out more and look thicker. A Doberman should look like they are poured into their skin. He is getting there, but slowly.

For comparison...

He has a little more fill in the pic below

Top two are Bells. Bottom is his Sire Sirius. See how much more fill Sirius has than Belmont? Bells will get there slowly and has already matured a ton since May. The two pics of him show how he has matured. Structure wise and type wise he should be knocking out more breed wins, but some judges can’t overlook the lack of maturity. When he reaches full maturity he should have no trouble pulling off the group wins. I have had bigtime handlers ask to show him, but I love his handlers and couldn’t put him with anyone else despite of another handler’s political pull with the judges.

Also have to keep in mind that showing dogs is just paying a judge to choose who they feel is the best dog that day. We just pay for an opinion. They should judge per breed standard, but they don’t a lot of the time. This is also a very political breed to show. Many times professional handler’s dogs are put up over dogs of better quality.
