It's over 4 months since Clancys gotcha day and he's come a very long way. Although he is still wary of new people he doesn't often panic now and is even showing interest in some people. He's 18 months old so still a puppy and learning but has wonderful manners and a joyful personality. Recall is very much a work in progress and he's at the stage that ecollar training is beneficial. 😊

I'm really not sure how much Doberman is in his genetics. He doesn't whine or backchat, not super Velcro but very affectionate, has a sweet, soft, sensitive nature. I don't think he is naturally timid but has learned to be fearful of the unknown. He is an excellent watchdog and lets me know if he sees or hears anything. Yesterday we had a good thunderstorm and he wasn't worried until a close crash and then he leaped off his bed, raced around looking for it and then out into the pouring rain to bark at the noisy problem! He doesn't hate rain. 🤔

He does lay with crossed front legs, is a leaner and rolls into a ball to sleep. Wants a blanket on if it's cold too. My best guess is Doberman X greyhound X border collie. If anyone wants to have a guess his DNA results should be back in a few weeks. 😊

Regardless of his breeding Clancy is an easy pup and perfect for my older self and travelling lifestyle. Jazz would have loved him and taught him a lot but she was NOT an easy pup so I believe Clancy was meant to be.IMG_20261017_142452.webpIMG_20260926_084154.webp

Clancy was meant to be.
I believe that happens a LOT! We don't always get the dog we want, we do get the dog we need.
I was VERY reluctant with Riley. I didn't know much about the breed, and honestly I wasn't impressed with it either. Add to that it was so soon after losing Rumor, I was a hard NO! The thing that hooked was the fact that he needed a home fast.
After he came home I doubted the decision more than once. He was a whole new definition of hard puppy! But we made it and I can't believe I ever doubted him.
So congrats on getting the dog you need!

Wow, that curled up picture of him sure looks Doberman! Annie sleeps like that a lot! With that same look on her face! 😁 I'm so happy that he's worked out for you!🥰🥰🥰
