A new journey begins!
For many months I have been stalking rescue groups and have applied for quite a few Dobermans with no success. Most had health or behaviour issues that made them unsuitable for my lifestyle and the few that would have been fine were in high demand and were homed elsewhere. All the while I had been watching a Doberman mix called Maverick in a shelter 2000km away who wasn't for interstate adoption.
Finally I contacted the group to ask about him and was allowed to apply. He had been in kennels for 4 months and wasn't doing well in that environment but despite his anxiety was friendly towards both people and dogs. Yesterday we had our meet and greet, and I made the decision to make him my forever dog.
He's small and of unknown parentage, about a year old with no training to speak of, but is naturally polite and people focussed so not difficult to deal with. I just felt he could thrive once given a chance so here we are!
A name change for a fresh start and Clancy and I have begun our new life. He travels in the car beautifully which was a relief and has spent the night sleeping hard against me. He hates loud noises and the motel was noisy and situated on a busy road near a rail line so our walks have been a bit tough for him but it will be easier once we get back into the rural areas.

Funny how after Jazz I felt able to handle a tough Dobe but instead have a completely different training situation. Clancy needs confidence building and to feel safe with me where Jazz never wanted to take a step back from anything!
Too early to say but I think Clancy will give me less back chat!

The second I read the title of this thread and saw who posted it I got a big smile on my face.
