American VS European Doberman

Nexus runs like the wind, so we want to work on her obedience and get her to where we can work her off leash and possibly train her in agility. Her favorite past time is getting Bella to chase her around the yard, and she zigzags around our yard deco and jumps over Bella and my stone bench!

Good that I found this topic. I read about cuddling, gentle puppies, but mine is soooooo not. Actually, she will cuddle for a few seconds after she wakes up from sleep.
It'ss just run, jump ... chase, wrestle and again and again... She is a Euro, so that would explain a lot.
I feel better now.:lmao:

What a neat thread. I have a boy that was imported from Hungary. He is my first dobe....he has me completely in love with the breed. I love the gorgeous heads, deeper color and bigger bone of the euros. I have seen some N.A. dobes with more substance that I like and in the future I will get a NA done because I am curious to see the differences. Everything I read about the Euro dobes said they have tons of drive and energy. I don't know if my boy is very atypical or if I am just use to very high energy breeds? He has a very stable, laid back temperament. When I ask him to work, I can see the drive and just intense attention. He is such a delight to train...I have never had a dog this smart and so willing to work for me. lol....if anyone has ever had weimaraners, that was my previous breed (which can be insanely difficult). I don't know if it is just me with previous experience with a high energy breed that is very stubborn and hard to train? But he is a very easy dog to me. I do not notice an intense drive but again, I have grown up with working dogs. Anyone else have a Zordan Zewi Del Citone son?? His mom is out of Ron Del Fiorsilva. I am very curious to hear of other peoples' experiences with the same line.

Dobermans whether you are speaking of Euro or American are much easier to train than Weims for sure. So you have a pretty typical Doberman as far as that goes and he has a very nice pedigree. What venues are you trining him in??? Have you checked into the UDC - United Doberman Club - we would love to have you join and participate. with your guy if you are training for competition.

Thank you :-) He is 5 months old and we have started obedience classes and a few handling classes (drop in classes). I would have loved to try schutzhund with him but the nearest club is 45 mins away and my schedule is too hectic to accommodate. We have taken him to a few shows for socialization...I'm going to show him in conformation in UKC. Hehe.....we'll see how that goes, I am a horrible handler right now, but that's how you learn right? Get out there and do it! I really love doing performance with my dogs, it's so much more natural to me than the breed ring. I was looking in to the UDC but I couldn't find a working club nearby to join. My little man:

Nice pictures and you don't have to have a club close to join. There was no club in Missouri at all when I joined and Now we have Mid Central Working Doberman Club which is a UDC club here - Doberman Gang and I work hard to keep it going. 2010 UDC Natls is in St. Louis at Purina Farms. You can show conformation at UDC too!!!

Yes everyone started at the bottom. Unles syou were born with a leash in your mouth that is!!! HA!

Have fun that is what it shold be about and the learning you will gain along the way is worth far more than anything you can dream of. It is very thrilling.

Welcome! Please hop on over to our Intro area and tell us a bit about yourself and your boy. We'd just like to welcome your properly. :) As far as having a 45 min drive, that's actually pretty normal. We drive about that far for ours. But it definitely is a commitment of time and money. Thankfully the pets are our kids right now so we can give that kind of time, lol.

So, where are you located?? Maybe we can help you find a club or trainer in your area to help you in your endeavors.

DV - you don't see agility period much in Europe - they are died in the wool founders of the Schutzhund program for working dogs. There are many many Euros who could and would excel at Agility. They just might be a little slower on the weave poles!!!!

Zuko is Euro and he is by far the most cuddly velcro doberman i have ever had out of three (other two were NA dobes), so i def think that is just depends on the dog.

That's a typical Del Citone dogs temperament. It sounds like you described my boy. Gino (my boy) has many Del Citone dogs in his pedigree.
He is too slow for agility but his focus and willingness to work is impressive. Unfortunatly it's too difficult to get into Sch club locally.

Asha is bred in Canada from Euro lines and she is running/jumping dog. I bet she would succeed in agility.

I don't agree. I had NA and Euro Dobermans. They are so similar!

Some of common behaviour... YOU MAY ADD.
- Be a velcro dog...always want to be in the same room at your side
- Bark when a doorball rings
- Prance around like a horse when we come home
- Wiggle their butt when see us-always
- Play tug of war-always
- Stretch every time they get up from a long nap-yup
- Hangout on the stairs
- Counter surf by using their long nose
- Sit next to you while you eat dinner
- Do anything for a treat
- Kill their stuffed toys
- Smack you in the face with their paw
- Be really well behaved in the car-it means walks
- Eat sticks like it is their dinner
- Watch you from a window when you leave the house....
...to be continued

It's only natural that the NA dobie has common traits with the European dobie..
After all, NA dobie is just a mutated brother of the European dobermann..
Selective breeding by incompetent breeders have destroyed very important qualities of the breed in the states.
This destruction has been so severe that some people seem to think of the two as two different breeds!
