And just like that..........

Oh my goodness. I may be new here, but I am definitely no stranger to grief. My heart breaks for you. I've only had my puppy for 5 weeks and she has helped heal so many of my broken heart and spirit. He was an absolute beautiful doberman. Sending you hugs and prayers

I’m so sorry to hear this :( He went next to you where he could say goodbye. He still with you in your heart.
Run free big guy and give Greta a lot of kisses for us !

I cant tell you sorry enough, Genny. I hope that the memory of him laying at your feet lasts a lifetime. May you find comfort in the image of him at peace beside you.

There was a deep and abiding love between the two of you

From the first time we met. We had a truly unique relationship that I will miss for as long as I live.

I was just remembering of Waine telling the story of Drake always breaking out and him finding Drake On his couch

Waine loved Drake and loved teasing me about him even more. I got a sweet message from Angie last night reminding me of Waine's Drake stories. Made me smile.

It just doesn’t feel fair.

It's not!

Thank you all for your kind words. I am struggling with this loss. He was just such a special boy to me. Add to that it ended a very special era in my life........the Drake and Greta team is over. That was a powerful time for me. The things we experienced in our therapy work changed me for the better.
Drake and I had a very special connection from the moment we laid eye on each other. I have MS and right before I brought Drake home I learned it had gone progressive. In the testing process that revealed my disease had gone to the next level, I was also diagnosed with breast cancer. I started treatment a week after Drake came home. It was a very grueling treatment for me. I was so sick and with a new pup and my sweet Greta there to see me through it. They seemed to understand and were amazing through the whole process. Great nurses, those 2! That experience seemed to cement our relationship and made both dogs bond with in a very special way. The start of a magical journey that I will never experience again.

Oh my goodness, my deepest condolences. I’m so very sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine experiencing such a an unexpected moment when it seemed to be going so well. :sorrow:

How old was he, if I may ask?

He would have been 9 Sept. 7th. So yeah, I have that to look forward to in just a week :(

I'm trying to pull myself together enough to celebrate Drake's life because he deserves it. He earned the right to walk along with the best that ever lived. He was beautiful, and I'm not just saying that because he's mine........just look at his pictures. He was so loving. Most of you you long timers remember the story of Heather, the little girl with brain cancer. Drake proved just how gentle and loving he could be. Here's a link to that story if you wish to read it I'm Struggling And Could Use Some Help.... He was protective and IMHO had a rock solid temperament. He had an incredible ability to discern the good from the bad. This is just one time (the first time) Drake showed me I need to trust my dog. I am SO proud of my dogs! And the last time just a few months ago Will he bite?
Drake and I traveled all over the country going to training, shows and trials. What a great time we had and what GREAT people we met. What an amazing journey we had. So sorry it's over, but thrilled beyond words I got to be part of it.
I had no idea one dog could be loved by so many. Once the word got out that Drake was gone, the cards, phone calls, emails began. And the thoughtful gifts, dinners cooked by my neighbors and the love that has poured out for my family has been overwhelming. Just one dog made such a difference in so many lives. I'm proud of that.

He was absolutely gorgeous. And I will definitely take some time today to read those posts. It sounds like you both built a wonderfully supportive community around you, and all the time, effort, and love you poured into him paid off. Sending you hugs and love!!! <3

I'm so sorry to hear that Drake has gone, and am in tears for you. Although I am a relative new comer here on DC he has been one of the key characters whose life and exploits have played a big part of this group. He will be sadly missed and I hope you find peace soon! :sorrow:

I'm so sorry for your loss @GennyB :( it sounds like he was an amazing soul and I can only imagine what you are going through. I know our animals are family and when they leave us a piece of us goes with them. I know you provided him with an amazing life filled with love while he was with you .

and when they leave us a piece of us goes with them

A HUGE piece and it hurts!

and all the time, effort, and love you poured into him paid off.

Remember that with your pup. What you put in, you get back tenfold. Sure I'm hurting right now because dogs just don't live long enough, but it's sooooooo worth it.

My kids came over last night and we had our traditional Irish wake for Drake. We reminisced about his life, talked about our favorite stories and looked through pictures of our life with him. Lots of tears but also lots of smiles and laughs. I feel better because my family convinced me I gave him the best life ever. He was loved, got to experience the things he loved and very well trained so he could be the best K9 citizen ever.
I miss him so much, I always will.
