Doberman puppy owners - track your weight gain here

the tape measure ranks a close second to the Dremel and so that is going to have to wait.
My pups would totally shrink when I brought out the tape measure. They were pretty sure it was evil and wanted no part of it. I wound up using my cloth tape and taped it to the door frame and walked them to the door to stand and got a closer guesstimate.:D

Kaiser is scared of the tape measure too! I tried a soft one and he kept wiggling around so then I used the metal one thinking it would be less spooky for him but nope.

View attachment 77128 Went to the vet with Shadow today for her annual checkup. 82.8lbs. The breeder said she’d be about 85. The vet commented on how large Shadows paws are. Seems to think she has some more growing to do.
Which reminds me...we have our annual check up too! K's paws are big as well but he has not grown in height for 7 months now. I was told the knobby thing above each front paw needs to flatten out and then they're done growing.

You know, I went looking for a pic of K so I could show you and then totally got distracted organizing my 10,000 pictures! Here's a good one. The little one has the bump where the black fur starts on his wrist area. K has a slight bump where his black fur starts. This is from July. image.webp

Thank you. Now I know what thing you’re talking about.
Ppl see Kaiser and immediately say he will still grow because his paws are so big. Maybe he will but I'm thinking he's done with the height. I expect his chest muscles to fill out some more but I think that can last until 3 hrs old...at least for boys.

Your dog is absolutely stunning. And I hope the ears on mine turn out that well.

Gracie (foster taken on at 17 days, after vet got "breeder" to surrender rather than euthanize).
3 weeks 1192 grams
4 weeks 2260 grams
5 weeks 3320 grams
6 weeks 4044 grams
7 weeks 5500 grams
8 weeks 7150 grams (15lbs, 13 oz), and is 14 inches at the withers.

Does anyone have calculations when comparing 8wk weight with full grown weight? We only know her Dam was 85lbs.

I have to say, of all the neonates I have foster raised (mastiffs to MinPins) the growth of the Dob is phenomenal. They seem to literally double their weight gain each week! We can actually SEE the size difference from morning to night, especially compared with all the tiny dogs we currently have (ranging from 2.4-3.8 kg, 6-8 lbs).

Has anyone done a correlation of eight week weight vs full grown weight? We do that with a lot of the neonates we get in to determine full grown size - it isn't foolproof, but does seem to give an indication.

We have sort of done that with our Dobermans but it doesn't always seem accurate with the breed. Our first male was pretty small when we first got him compared to others of that age but he did mature to about 93# (not fat) so it seems that this breed will grow at different rates, at different times.

I’ll try to take some good pics of him today but this dufus doesn’t pose like Miesha did! He sees me try to catch a nice pic an he runs straight at me with his goofy puppy face!

This is him however watching me on the toilet...
