Return of the eGGe!

The only problem is that this is an outdoor toy :frowning: you need space for the hard plastic shape to roll. It's light weight but will bang into your fence. But it's a total buy!

Yes, and I think its the hard plastic that puts off Kali. It's practically bigger than her and I think she's a bit intimated by it. And I think if Buddy was younger he'd go after it. But he shows no real interest. Especially being hard plastic.

This is a good point. It is a bit wild for a smaller dog and even I was worried he would run into me while he chased it around. It might just be more intriguing to a younger dog with high ball drive. Or a single dog household. Buddy can always chase Kali around instead!

I did stand around wondering which size to get - this is the 12" - as I was trying to imagine whether this would be a successful toy purchase. I was so tempted to get the smaller sizes so that he would be able pick it up with his mouth but with this strange shape and no traction on the toy, the fact that he cannot get a handle on it makes it so much more obsessive.

Then I deliberated on color lol. Purple (versus yellow, as he has enough red toys) is easier to conceal when I sneak out into the yard to hide it in a square shaped bag. Otherwise every potty break would turn into play time!

It's actually a bit heavy for a small dog too. I mean, its about her size! lol I know it can't be soft or it wouldn't hold up. I just didn't expect it to be so heavy. Kali is quite intimated by it. But a young (er) Doberman would probably Love it!

And, yes, Buddy ALWAYS chases Kali around! :p And most of the time she is loving it too! ;)

LOL, I have to put ours away when play time is over too or he'd spend all of his time outside playing with it.

The eGGe or do you mean something else? The 12" we have is only a couple ounces at best.

It actually says Jolly ball on it.
Pet Supplies : Pet Toy Balls : Jolly Pets 12-Inch, Jolly Egg, Red : Amazon.com

It says shipping weight is 14.9 ounces.

I took it out and tried to get them excited about it and Buddy started pawing at it and moving it across the grass with a lot of encouragement on my part. Then he stopped and just barked at me like, Would you kick it?? It hurts my foot to kick it!! I have some video. If I get a chance I'll post it.

d

Oh yeah, the Jolly Egg is totally different and from what I've heard not very durable.
I have the jolly egg! I knew it wasn't the same as the Egge but I guess I'll be able to report on its durability then haha.
From the sound of it, it sounds like the Jolly Egg is heavier. But I can't imagine it not being as durable. It hurts my foot to kick the darn thing! lol It seems very durable. I'm going to leave it outside, even in winter, to see if it gets played with so I will be testing that durability! :spit:

Ya I definitely wouldn't kick it either. But I also keep the rule that any toy that is meant for independent play, like this egg, that we shouldn't interact with it beyond giving it to the dog and taking it away from the dog. Otherwise he will stand there with his begging eyes for play time with us haha  I can't say no to that!

I got the Jolly egg, so excited and NOBODY would play with it!! I gave it to my neighbor who has a border collie and I see her pushing it all over the yard. At least Somebody likes it!

I wonder if high ball drive is a prerequisite to liking the egg...
Not necessarily... Prey drive seems to be crucial, but I don't know what makes one dog love it more than other dogs. I discovered my past dog Ladybug's love of large balls by accident. Somebody left a basketball on the baseball diamond I was using as a training field for her and she flipped out! She popped the basketball in no time, so I got her the eGGe. Hans loves it because she loved it. He copied everything she did.

Amazing what we find out about them by accident  Kaiser found a white frisbee in the middle of a snowy white field last winter and it has become THE toy that he is obsessed with the most. Such characters!

Ha, so interesting to hear how many like this toy and how many don't! I thought Buddy was the 'odd man out' but it seems there are quite a few that don't care for it. Like I said, if I went out there and got all excited about it, yelling and encouraging, he would start pawing at it, moving it across the yard. But on his own? Pfff :whoop:

I actually did make a video! No one else in my Dobe crew has the egg so they couldn't believe it when I told them how effective it is. This was my proof! He runs after this for so long I am actually worried he is experiencing withdrawal symptoms when he doesn't have it haha.
