Wife Is Considering Adopting This Dog!

Yup they're picking up on every single thing you type or even say. I turned 3rd party cookies off but I'm not sure if it helped or not.
The other day I was sitting at our car dealership (Ford of Hibbing) for an oil change and now I'm seeing a bunch of Ford of Hibbing ads.
Yes. I think I remember what it was now. Nowhere in my email did I type Victoria's Secret. I just sent the pics to my email from my phone. It was only within DCF that I typed that company's name. Then, on the email site, I got the ads from V. S. Just interesting.

I wonder if it’s worth getting an x-ray done to see if anything else is in there still.
That would be smart, I guess. I think at this point, they'd find a bunch of twigs, pieces of sticks, seeds various organic matter (from our backyard). I condemn him putting rocks in his mouth, but he's so into the woody stuff that it's all but unavoidable.

I did catch him with one of my socks, and on another occasion, my younger daughter's pajama shorts. I watch him pretty closely. The basement is gated off. The upstairs he can access but all doors are closed up there as a rule now because of Cosmo.

Wait a minute. Those two he barfed up? That's even more insane. That's been sitting in the stomach? For how long? Wow I don't know what to think about that but it's pretty damn scary!
Yeah, it was pretty surprising that it could come out the front end after, what, some 5 days or more?

Just for purposes of information sharing: The barf that contained the undies was the kind of barf that consisted basically of moist kibble, yet he had not eaten since the day before.

Yeah, when food stays stagnant in the stomach, probably the undies were blocking the way for it to move on. You are extremely lucky he was able to puke it up. Blockage can be death or $$$ surgery. :(

Reminds me of @Aaron56 old school vet trick to make them barf before it gets past the pyloris, to avoid an obstruction in bowels.

Remember these? I placed them on top of the BBQ grill on the back deck. There was no way Cosmo was going to be able to reach them. It was going to rain, and I figured that would wash some of the barf off of them. I wanted to get pictures of them, so, didn't throw them away yet.

Fast forward (how many weeks?) to a windy day when I saw Cosmo on the deck interested in the grill area. I check on the dogs often when they're out in the backyard. So I went out, looked on top of the grill and saw this:

ThongGone3.webp :shock::mad::mad::mad::mad:

So began the hoping that they'd make an appearance once more. Thank God, about 22 hours later as I watched him poop in the backyard, I saw what looked like it certainly could be one or both of them coming out! After he got spooked by it hanging from his butt, I got out there, corralled him and pulled this the rest of the way out to the sound of some mild yipes:

ThongGoneLast.webp (The red thong).

A day and a half later, I watch him go out for the first constitutional of the day and:

ThonGone.webp (The greenish tan thong).

Thank God, and 🤣

So that underwear has been through him twice! Tough stuff, both dog and thongs.

I'm glad to see them in a garbage bag now! Be gone!! 🙃
I know, right? Sheesh, self!

For those of you just tuning in, I'll reiterate that these underwear along with the third one that came out his back end the day after we got him, did not come from our household!

However, that IS "your wife and daughters dog" iirc,
So maybe keep an eye on the undies drawers and wash room for "predation" by your dane-goat mix?
🤣

Oh brother, that one is going to keep you on your toes.
That is so true! His mellow demeanor he exhibited during our first meetings with him belied his truly naughty nature.

Obviously, he has been allowed to successfully snoop for and grab things in households. He is one of those dogs (so far) that you just find running across the room with something in his mouth. I shake my head at other people's dogs that are like this. My wife's brother & sister in-law's "Burnedoodle" is known for this. The blame for that lies squarely on those owners though. They are the typical normie dog owners who know basically nothing about dog training.

Cosmo here spent the first 4 months or so of life in who knows what type of life and household; and one major aspect to consider is that we do not know if he was separated from his litter too early! I'm not saying that would be linked directly to being a stealer and eater of things. The separated early thing has more to do with his not knowing what is appropriate in terms of interacting with other dogs. He is very bold and will take over Zephyr's dog bed, for example. Zephyr is an exceedingly patient and tolerant dog. He puts up with it and even seems deferential to Cosmo. A few times, though, Z has had enough and has started to get aggressive with Cosmo. I imagine this will increase, and I hope that Z can put C in his place within the pack without doing any damage to him.

Just a note on how things are going:

In a word, frustrating. Well, how about two words? Frustrating and Stressful.

First, this is a miracle dog – and/or God is looking out for us. This puppy has ingested many items! They have been mostly socks and underwear. Thank God, there has been no obstruction yet. They all come out one end or the other. Irresponsible are we? I don't know. We are taking increasingly extensive steps to prevent it. This dog is very driven to find and eat socks and underwear. He does it FAST, too.

Second: The training and behavior: I may need a psychologist. I am dealing with such frustration. Cosmo is showing glimmers of hope in terms of trainability, but (I'll just lay this out) my wife is the problem! She is just apparently not capable of good training and handling of a dog. As many of you know, and as I know especially from trying to start my own training business years ago, it takes the entire household. Wife is either incapable or unwilling, and I think it's the former. Her consistency is very very poor. It makes me CRINGE and SO frustrated to see the puppy handled by essentially the typical woefully equipped owner. Wife just can't get the intonations of voice, and can't be consistent about making the dog wait at the baby gates and the exterior doors. When she does remember to make him wait, she often just says "okay" as he saunters through without waiting. Or, she'll have him wait a second or two, but he proceeds through before she releases him. I am very frustrated.

Oh, and she lets him up on the couches and our bed. I have warned her about the training implications of this, and the actual dangers that may lie ahead as he matures. Still, she does it. I am tired of repeating myself ordering the puppy off the couch. I just ignore it now, for the most part.

Another glimmer of hope: Wife has actually started to bend on the e-collar issue. She is now open to it. I forget what the transgression on puppy's part broke the camel's back. maybe it was him getting into older daughter's room, having escaped the gated back room of house somehow. I found him in there under the bed, and stuff strewn all over the room. I pulled a piece of kleenex out of his throat. Thank God, daughter's cherished stuffed animal she has slept with since she was a baby was only a little wet, but still on her bed.

Positives: He basically does not bark!!!!!!! Thank you, God! He has an off switch. He does well in the crate for the most part.

So very sorry....I know going into this you were pretty firm with her that this would be HER deal, and hoped she would be up to the task....
Miracle dog for certain! I know he had thrown up some stuff that did NOT belong to you guys when you got him....
Keep the faith, stay focused on what is going right, and keep praying to our God! ❣️

I get your frustration, although on a bit lower level. Hubby is somewhat the same but not quite as bad. To me, it's mostly because he's not here as much as I am or as involved with the animals as much as me. He won't 'follow through' sometimes, as I would. And he's just not as observant as me.

And yes, he sometimes let's them get away with murder that I wouldn't. I feel he depends on me a lot when I'm here. And I'm almost always here. 😁 The few times I do go away, like to visit our daughter in Kentucky, believe me, I worry. But I think those times he is much better! Probably because he knows the Wrath that would be coming home if something happened! :rp::tap: 😁

He's pretty good about adhering to my rules. Probably because he feels the same. For instance, he would never let Annie on our bed or couch in the family room. She has the sunroom couch and he knows the rules.

Perfect example of not really following through was when we had Buddy. Buddy was attached to me more than my husband. And if we were all outside and I wanted to stay and asked him to take Buddy inside, he would always tell me, he's not going to go with me. And it was true. If he called him, sometimes Buddy would look at him and then look back at me like, no I want to stay with Mom. But I would tell him, make him! Make him listen to you! But most of the time he just wasn't that aggressive about it and I would end up taking him in.

Today was another great example. After the Fox Fiasco this morning I had gone out to the barn to feed the horses. 15 minutes later my husband comes out with Annie. I look and she has no collar. No e-collar, no nothing. I told him, "Seriously? There was a fox out here minutes ago and you let her out without a collar?" He kind of gave that look like, :speechless: oh yeah maybe I should have. Yeah you should have.:tap: Luckily she was not that interested in leaving us and was playing with her rope. But I want to slap my head like, what were you thinking? I mean she's really good about sticking with us and listening to us. But I would have never taken that chance with the possibility of that fox still being around. Especially when you're not constantly watching her while we tend to horses.

Now your little boy eating everything in sight is very very stressful. It's like you can't take your eyes off him. And you shouldn't. I know how much time and effort that takes. I've done it with Annie. She's not nearly as bad but I'm still very watchful with her.

All that said, I am and always was the main caretaker of the animals and my husband knows it. Even if he doesn't train them or follow through on some things, he's pretty good about keeping my rules. You can't be giving mixed signals to the animals or even the kids! But at least with children they understand what you're saying and you can explain why Mom and Dad differ on something.

I saw this video going around and have to laugh! Gentle parenting does not always work. With children or animals!

@MyBuddy ....reading your post, it could have been ME who wrote it!!!!! Same; will you let the dogs out? "They won't go with me...." MAKE THEM! I was out of town first part of December, and I was worried about the dogs...but I had to not stress about it.
I get home, and see on the camera he took them out front, and into our woods while I was gone. I was so happy! Then I asked "I don't see collars on them?" No e-collar...he claims they were "Free styling it". I told him how thankful I was that they had their "Run free time" but ALL KINDS OF THINGS CAN GO WRONG out there without their 'insurance collar' on. He said they both listened to him really well. What a miracle.
