:) He's getting too heavy to carry down the stairs now, he will go up but will not go down and it's a pain in the ****w. I came off my bike on black ice in January this year and broke my left hip and elbow so you can imagine how I feel his weight ...

ps if your interested to know in more detail how I broke my bones have a read of this - link -, there's piccys of me on the floor, ambulance and x-rays (nothing gory)

Oh ouch about the hip. I started Albert going down the stairs at a much younger age than Della and he caught on very quickly. They're all a bit scared of going down, and with Della I wasn't sure of how to proceed, but after our trainer showed us how it was much easier with Albert. Ozzy is ready at this age so I'd get him started on it and once he gets it he'll be fine. :)

Just got back from the vet's office. He said Callie looks great and everything is normal/perfect!!!:D
Because of my area he's recommending another dose of shots in 3wks. He says because of her previous cold it would be for good measure and he would like to see her again just to get a good look/see!!!
The vet really likes her temperament:)...of course I'm bias but she was on her impress people great behavior routine. She took the poking and prodding really well and even gave the vet & his tech a good by lick...cya later!

She is 13wks & 1day today and she weighs 26.6lbs:cool:

Let me explain the vet and our area thing...I live in the Blue Mtns. Since I have deer and rodents, raccoon...you name it...the extra shots are a maintenance thing for good measure.

Like EARL we have to take River back to the vet in a month for an additional booster. Somehow we ended up a week early on her shot schedule AND there's a big Parvo outbreak in the area right now so she wants to err on the side of caution. With how susceptible our black and tan breed is I'm okay with that.

My vet stated the Parvo outbreak too...also he stated that a little extra worming can't hurt..."err on the side of caution" right Jess?

Our vet said they'd actually had several cases come in the past few weeks. All I could think was geez, thanks for telling me AFTER I let River walk all over the office. You'd hope a vet would properly bleach, though.

Last Friday on purpose I swung by our vet's office to make today's appt.... my reasoning for this was to see the condition of the office after a full day of work completed and to see if or what cleaning was taking place....the floors were just finishing drying from a bleaching and I've witnessed before how they clean the examining room between patients. ( SPOTLESS )

Everything was good and clean. The receptionist/tech said that if there is a sick or infected dog that comes in to the office they clean right behind the animal as they come and go.

Good to know.

I guess we had a big parvo outbreak in this area too when I took Albert in for his second set of shots so I was really glad I carried him in, and he did say they constantly bleach the hell out of the floors so the inside was probably fine. I even carried him in the last time just to be safe, but whew he was getting heavy...

Are these outbreaks all around the country? I haunt heard anything in Vegas but then again I havn't been to the vet in a couple weeks.. I hate having to wait for puppies to get their shots, especially when youve had them since 6 weeks haha all I want to do is take him to the dog park and socialize him.. But I can't for another month and a half =[

Oh and I just weighed him.. He turned 8 weeks on saterday and this morning he was 16 lbs on the dot.
Im noticing that the dogs with euro blood seem to have a higher lbs/weeks old ratio when their young, even though they arnt that much bigger when full grown..

Here in the UK my vet recommended a parvo booster at 16 weeks for Ozzy. Apparently a lot of the larger breeds, Mastifs, Rotties, Dobes, Great Danes etc are susceptible to Parvo at this age as there is a 'dip' in their immune system. My vet said he knows of a couple of Dobes in my area that have succumbed to the disease...

Here's one article I found on parvo outbreaks in the US.

I can't remember where I read it but black and tan breeds like Rotties and Dobes are more susceptible to the disease. Please be careful with Ozzy. I was disappointed that I couldn't take River out to play at the park but it is NOT worth the risk.
