So I measured Flint and... Holy Crap

The breed standard for AKC and FCI states that male dobermans should be about 28 inches at the shoulder maximum. Flint is 5.5 months old... and he is 24" at the shoulder.

Is 6 months old truly the "half way grown" point? Because if he is truly only  almost 50% done growing then I should be able to ride him to work in another 6 months. I haven't weighed him in a bit but I'd wager he's about 45 - 50lbs right now too. He's not fat at all. He has a nice tucked tummy and I can see his ribs just a bit.

Does the tallness slow down after 6 months or am I about to end up with Goliath reborn?

I measured Allura at 5 mo (Nov 20th) and she was 22 1/4". If I were to guess how tall she was going to be (judging by her parents & grandparents), she should top out at about 25".

IMO, females do mature out sooner (18-24 mo) then male (30-36 mo).

Yup males mature much slower and our males have gone up in height until they're around a year old(+/-), then they keep filling out for a few more years after that.

Flint's grandfather on his mom's side was big... Draco

His mother was 75lbs. I don't remember how tall.

His father was 90lbs and is an AKC champion so he is somewhere in the standard for height.

I wonder how much influence the mother's line has on male pups.

That sounds well within the standard and he probably will be too. They can have some goofy growth spurts when they're growing at their fastest so he probably just shot up and will balance out again.

I wouldn't stress too much. I've seen a dog over 29" earn a Grand Championship & make Top 20. :/ Ideal? No, but he is well put together.

I found Kaiser gained almost full height by 10 months but really he was just growing slower after that point. He even gained an extra half inch during his second year but I had stopped measuring him by then. He’s either 28 or 28.5, he hates the measuring tape lol. As far as weight is concerned, he took a long time to get past 80 lbs, maybe only after 5 years old reaching 92 at his heaviest. He looks best around 88 lbs.
