Rolling the dice with ear posting.

I am in no way suggesting anyone do this. I am only relaying my experience so far. Tyson is just over 5 months. I remove the reposts about every 5 days. Two days ago I removed the posts and was going to give him a day of no posts. I noticed that he was exercising his ears in a way that he could not do with them posted. Out a little to the sides and then straight up on alert. I’m going to monitor him closely but I think this ear movement of his may very well be more beneficial than just posting over and over again using a timeline.

Posting is the only way you’re going to achieve erect ears. If you leave the posts off and the ears aren’t done you’re going to regress. It has nothing to do with muscles for standing, it’s cartilage hardening.

Again I am not suggesting anyone else do this. My thinking is there is no exact timeline for cartilage growth when it comes to the ears, at the first sign of regression I will repost them. IMO a long period of posting keeps the ears in a static position and the muscles that control ear movement are just not getting a workout. When I massage my dogs' ears I can feel the cartilage and its structural integrity. As for muscles for standing, I was talking about going from a neutral position to an alert one which is all muscle employment

Warning: keep going. Post with bumpers. You can post without a bridge and theyll move just like they are. Its your dog, so if you like it you like it. But nobodys lying to you. I screwed up doing what youre doing and had to go an extra month and a half.

What was the total amount of time you posted. I never insinuated someone was lying to me.

I know you werent. Im just saying the rhetoric proved true for me. Be patient Joe, I know youre over there wanting your little soldier to have them fierce ears. Youll get em. Just stick with it. I went for about 5 months.

There is one other option. The half post. If the bottom of the bell is good and strong you can use backer rod method just not in the ear canal. Really helps strengthening muscle but keeps the upper parts in place.

They're looking very good and it does look like the cartilage is conductive to them standing. It's just that this is about the age that ears that have stood well from the very start will go down since they're putting so much into teething.
Of course it's your option if you want to keep testing them but I'd repost at any sign of drooping.

She turned 1 last month and we still have her in posts (only half). One section was having problems. Last post couple of post changes we are feeling a marked improvement in hardness and looks good but want the extra reinforcement.

Ok, so everyone here knows my struggles with ear posting. And I am reluctant to ask these stupid questions but I can't help that I am still unclear. When posting is complete, do the the dogs ears stand erect 24/7? I understand that the dog will be able to maneuver them? Will they never lie flat out to the side? I've seen pictures of "flopped" but I am really unsure of what I should expect. Since what I've seen labeled as "flopped" the tips were just folder over.
Can I post just the tips?
How hard will the cartilage feel?

So for a while Ezri has a soft spot that felt barely stronger than the human earlobe. In the past few months it has started feeling more like the upper part of ear (where it folds)

it keeps feeling stronger each of the recent posts changes.

My breeder told me ears at 10 and 2 o'clock approximately then when they are alerted to something Vertical

This should help explain their ear positions.
