Hi! Back again with more questions. I got some great advice about a month ago and I am looking for more. My 10 month old dobie had her ears done at 8 weeks. Posted as soon as they were healed. Her left ear literally stood after one (48 hour) posting. Crazy but it did- I had to leave posts out about a week due to sores from trying the tampax method and her left ear continued to stand- I did post it for a while but it's been great. Her right ear is my question. It stood for 2 1/2 days back in April and then flopped. Back into posts. Some testing- it would stay a day and flop. Sometimes a couple of hours. Anyway after my last thread about posting I didn't even test, just kept it posted. A few days ago did a one hour test, then a four hour test and then a 8 hour test. Initially when I removed the post (you will see in my first picture) the ear flopped. (one of the folks said it didn't truly look like a flop when I posted a very similar picture- just that it needed more time) In a few minutes the ear stood so I left it and watched. It stood for 8 hours- perhaps "flopped or flipped a tiny bit more than her left ear when outside running/playing but upright as soon as she stopped moving. The next two pictures are at about the 8 hour mark. I reposted because I was going to bed and done watching. The heat seems to be making my tape super sticky so post is holding well. How do I know when I dare try overnight again? There is definitely less "bell" to her right ear than her left ear and I think this is causing the problem. The crop is not long, she is on Vit C and Calcium per breeder instructions. Thoughts from any one would be most appreciated!! (this is my 11th Dobie and never had these issues in any of my cropped dogs before. I am at a loss. Is it not a true flop if a few minutes later it is upright? Does how much it flops/flips when she is running/jumping count or matter? Thanks again for the past advice and what I am sure I will get again.

That's by no means a flop but some dogs can take over a year so I would keep going for a while.
I think what you have been doing is a good plan and if they will stay up all day, you can try it at night after a week or two.
Is the first picture still happening? If so, If you squeak a toy does that ear pop right up to attention? The next two photos look fine, I don't see a break or a flop. If the tips wiggle wildly when she runs around use breathe-rite strips to help. And yes they will wiggle less as time goes by. If this is your 11th Dobe (wow!

Sometimes it looks this way after removing the post- for all of a minute or two, then the ear is up at attention and stays that way. Sometimes it is up immediately after removing the post. The right ear definitely moves more when running/playing than the left ear. Would I wait on the breathe-rite strips until I am done posting her ear? I have never used them. If it's not a flop.... is it just weak or ? I would love it if you could explain that to me. I have never had a dobie do this so I am not sure what I am looking at. It does need to still be posted if it does this at all? So far it's for a minute or two after I remove the post (not all the time, sometimes it is standing immediately after removal) This girl has been a challenge in SO many ways....... Thanks!!

That is strange that it's right after you remove the post and then stands. Usually it's the other way around. I'm not experienced in very many ears, so I have no answers on that.
I'm guessing that she just hasn't gotten used to using the muscle control yet since she's more dependent on the posts holding them up, but I could be wrong since this is sort of a unique case.
Could it be possible she is getting too dependent on the post? Any suggestions are very welcome. It is strange..... there are many strange things about my girl......
That's a tough one to answer so I don't want to say the wrong thing. I do see tape dents in the last two photos and sometimes that's where I decide to draw the line and go to Breathe Rights since the tape dents can be a problem too.
Oh man, I am learning too much here lol Tape dents? That's new to me. I do not pull the tape tight-but is it from wearing posts so long? I would like some help knowing what to look for and what I should do. I left her ear out all day yesterday and it was tilted to start with (not the 90 degree bend) and as the day went on it was better and better........ I reposted before I put her to bed. I don't have any Breathe Rights but I am going to see if I can find some in town today. Thanks so much for your help. I am feeling rather discouraged again.......
I picked up the Breathe Rights this morning...... where should I apply it? Do they stick well on their own? I am wondering about tape dents and what that means.... thanks SO much!!!!!!!!
Is this correct? I see where some folks have taped them on- I don't have any torbot....... Would I put it on the outer edge of her ear? One? Thanks again in advance!

That’s it, I cut mine to make the top of the strip fit in the tip of her ear, I use torborts light coat on the strips, too much she itches and pulls the strips off, pull ear up and stick the strip on hold it to have it adhere. Some folks on here shave the inner ear to have it stick better, they I’m sure will also leave information too for you. I let them fall off after a few days and reapply. Remove torborts with rubbing alcohol and medical adhesive remover.
I would Amazon Torborts it’s worth it. I tried it without and she took the strips off and chewed them up. Zoom in and you can see. Good luck it’s so much easier than posts, once you are at that point, which you are!
There is a photo above of the placement and here's one more.
They will stay on a lot longer if you use Torbot's adhesive or even artificial nail glue. I like the Torbot's better since it's a bigger can and lasts longer; usually close to 2 weeks.
Don't feel discouraged since you're doing a great job. The tape dents should work themselves out but one of our boys did wind up with a kink in his ear because it was extreme.

Your girl is beautiful!! My girl's issue is not with the tips tho..... I don't know if you saw the other posts of mine (sorry but several as this is a weird deal with her ear) Her ear was standing a few minutes after this picture (I had just removed the post) and stayed standing all day. Sometimes it looks like this for a few minutes after removing post, sometimes it is standing erect. Kind of backwards from most ear issues.... One of the folks on here saw tape dents and suggested the breathe rite. I am guessing I would put it where is occasionally bends....
