Ragnar and Freyja

These females seem to be the stalkers.
Bacall would stalk Bogie all the time, then it became the stare down when they got nose to nose. Then within a flash they were romping and wrestling.

Bacall is waiting on her new brother and I hope she doesn’t abuse him. :D

Yeah, so quietly sleeping on a doggie pillow last night and then all of sudden Freyja wakes up and has two huge vomits- breakfast and lunch.

I get this horrible sinking feeling in my gut everytime they do this- same as Ragnar’s first two obstructions. Then I’m not good until 24hrs later and I see them poop.

She may have gotten into some goose poop in the front yard. The idiot ass woman across the road has been throwing seed in her yard to attract the Canadians.... Around 25 of them and then of course they come in my yard and shit all over the place.

Later on for supper, I fed Freyja some yogurt, kibble and probiotics, she immediately went to sleep.

She was much better today thankfully but damn I hate that feeling of helplessness.

Glad to hear she is better, just curious what type of yogurt are you feeding her ?

I'm looking forward to hearing more about this wonderful news!

Hope it's all good now.

And on that stalking thing, get photos! Asha stalked for about 2 or 3 months & I never got a photo. Then poof, she quit doing it. @JanS got a perfect shot of Phoebe stalking!

Regular Danon Greek yogurt I think. I believe the smoothness/softness helped her stomach.

This probiotic does absolute wonders for vomiting and diarrhea... one scoop at each meal for a couple of days helps clear Ragnar up. Appears to work with puppies too. A great recommendation from @strykerdobe.

When I gave Mercy Probiotics it gave her diarrhea. The vet had me give her the brand Pro plan.

Yeah....

After Ragnar’s obstruction surgery, the vet pushed the Pro plan probiotic too. I did research and didn’t like it so I purchased this kind.

This is for humans....one scoop is good for all weights of dogs?

Yes, it is for humans.

You know, when I first got the stuff, I intently read the directions and tried to figure out the exact/proper dosage. I even found somewhere buyers using it for dogs but couldn’t get a comparative dosage to establish a baseline.

I don’t remember exactly the directions or scoop ratio to lbs but I started off with just one scoop (very small scoop comes with) at lunch time and then felt comfortable enough to do two times a day with food. Everything went well with that (sometimes added pumpkin) and his diarrhea would clear up quickly with no issues.

Kinda started the same way with Freyja- one scoop at breakfast. Don’t see any ill affects and clears up easily/quickly. Will continue that for a couple of days just to make sure her gut is back to normal. If I feel like a second scoop would be advantageous, then I would add at dinner time but have yet to feel this is needed.

I know this kinda sounds like I am guessing at dosage vs weight but it seems to work and I’ve never noticed any negative affects.

Ragnar tends to eat long strands of grass and it’s aggravating because it will get stuck in his mouth/throat causing him to cough and wretch.

I read somewhere that they tend to eat grass because of an upset tummy. Other than eating grass, I wouldn’t have noticed any signs/symptoms of this.

So I kinda, actually started to give Ragnar one scoop a day to make sure his gut is 100% good to go. I did this for a little bit but to be honest I have slacked off the last couple of weeks because of the addition of Freyja. I really must get back on track to see if he stops eating the grass if he has the one scoop a day.

Or the strands of grass will get stuck on their way out! :facepalm:And then he bucks like bronco until it falls out haha. I read the same re upset stomachs and found that if he ate a lot of grass with some intensity about him, then his stomach would indeed be upset, but if he is casually/relaxed grazing, then there's no upset stomach.

Still having some issues potty training but it seems to be getting better. She stops and drops wherever and whenever. Gonna keep taking her out and when she goes- continue having parties in the yard.

Can’t believe how well Ragnar and Freyja are getting along. She is relentless at him all the time and he just takes it. When he’s had enough, he body slams her and moves away. She doesn’t stop, goes into a fit and I have to step in and calm her down. But they are peas in a pod, they look for each other. If she cries out? Better get out of the way, he is coming hard to see what’s wrong.

She listens very well and I really can’t believe how much she is learning from Ragnar. She watches him and follows suit to all he does. Sit, stay, wait for food, wait to go through door. Working on heal and fetch right now.

Walking with them two was hard at first, she hated the leash. She would plop and not move at all. Leash on her and Ragnar with ECollar. We turned it into fun and now she trots on Ragnars left side. I am not for sure if I am going to keep Ragnar on left side and put her on right side or teach Ragnar to be on the right.

Damn, she is a fricking eater! Eats everything, sticks, acorns, goose poop, grass, sticks...sticks....sticks.

Her right ear is spot on perfect. Her left ear is being very lazy, it is all over the place. If I put the bridge on it straightens up the left ear but pulls the right ear in too far- worried about a right ear pocket happening. But if I take bridge off, the right ear is good but left is all over. So for now, I put the bridge on for some time for left ear support and then take it off to challenge the left ear. Just kinda on and off trying to keep it all even.

Boy do I hear you there. LOL I swear if it will fit in her mouth, she's going to put it in there. :D

I'm glad they're bonding so well and I can see she's really growing already.

Oh, gosh; Moose felt like he was impossible to potty train. He was always more interested in doing anything but considering he had to potty. We took him outside nonstop and he still peed everywhere in the house :facepalm:I think having a big brother/sister makes it harder, for sure

I know it's early days and things will change for your training as she grows, but I'll just say I hope you are spending some alone time with Freyja while Ragnar is not around. Dynamics can change a lot without Big Brothers influence. I know you are doing a terrific job. It's awesome how well it's going, just don't forget the alone-time training. It's a game changer and from just my tiny bit of experience I wish I'd done more of it sooner. The hardest damn thing is being the most important thing to her when you have to compete with Ragnar.

This! It's been a 3 month struggle here and they get individual time all the time. This morning she had her eyes locked on Paige and I quietly said "Ripley" and she actually whipped her head around and came to me for some love, forgetting all about Paige. It really felt good for her to respond to her name like that over one of the most highest value things in her life... so yeah! Don't forget to work with her alone because it's going to take a lot of work to create that bond between you and her that she already has with Ragnar. It is really helpful for her to learn good behaviors through Ragnar though and a big component to waiting to bring a puppy in when the other dog is trained and mature. Ya did a good job with Ragnar and I'm sure you will with Freyja!
